Has the timing connector been shorted when you took the ignition reading? I still think it is impossible to hit even 5 degree base timing on a MIVEC 1.8 without knocking. Do you have difficulties in starting especially after a hard run when the engine is hot?

jzhost, from the docs I have , it seems that your gearbox is from 1993 CA5A 4G93. dunno wat model is CA5A .. GSR perhaps. it has a final gear ration of 4.592 which I found strange since you mentioned ur rpm is at 3k at 110km/h while my gearbox final ratio is 3.752 oso running at 3,000 rpm at 110 km/h .. anyone care to share?

sorry to bump intou guys..just wanna ask all the mivec owners,do u know one satria gti (ori or not i dont know) got mivec machine inside..last saturday i saw this car tarik infront of projet wangsa maju n guess wat,the mivec sound was so loud same like vtec...then i saw the car again at federal highwah tonjol my car,then the guy tarik again and once again the mivec sound get thru my ears...

the car got cf hood..anyone with the info pls share wit me..mebbe can yam cha sometime..coz really admire his car la...

Original mivec run on 10 degree. no problem start engine bcos the fuel is not too heavy i shot only. Some of my friend using 1.8 has tried 18 degree the MAX, respond very good.

wow thats sound great !! i would like to meet him then . But do u remember his car plate no ? wat exhaust he using those 304 zigen ? Maybe got hi cam inside. My friend mivec have hi cam also very loud when mivec kick in.

CF hood... HKs exhaust ..... HID lamp ... crystal head lamp .... black tinted mirror........
got many sticker beside door area ...... GTI original colour with white colour rims ????

I've tried to retard the timing a bit but the problem still persists. I suspect this is due to the Mivec ECU is mapped to 1.6 displacement. 1.8 block has bigger stroke / longer piston travelling distance. Dont know how this could contribute to knocking but I really think it has something to do with it.

DDgrey dude, r u using Mivec ECU or combination of ur stock ECU + Mivec controller? Do u experience any knocking / pinging?

No le, i dun have knocking nor pinging sound, coz i dun have safc or sitc, just some fuel regulator n racing fuel pump to make sure fueling is enough.

[/b][/quote] yeah....gti original colour..donnu wat exhaust,white rims...the rear is higer then the front like rally style...got a lot of sticker at the door side....hid lamp...cf hood.. i think its a malay driver...do u know?? but one thing for sure..the mivec opened sound was damm loud...mebbe he tot i wanna test with him coz im driving eg that day..but unfortunately my car got clutch prob that day so im just slow down while he kept on speeding to the subang airport exit... really like to meet this guy...

What engine oil is the best for mivec engine?
I am currently using Q8 gold 10-50w, very good but thought of trying Motul 300v 15-50w.

me too using NGK iriway.
