RX7 Questions.Please help!

No longer getting RX7..Found out from a few sources that it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get loan for a 92 RX7.That means,if i ever decide to sell the car,all my potential buyers will need to be ready to pay me cash on the spot.I mean, how many people actually keep 100 k cash that they are ready to throw on a car ?

So i will be getting a new S15 Silvia instead.Quite similar to RX7 (Balance and stability)with less power..but i guess it can also be modified to produce 500 + HP.Any comments ?

[Balance and stability are similar to RX7 ???] what says u?

[IMPOSSIBLE to get loan???] can get ~RM50k no problem and depend on ur documents support.

[how many people actually keep 100 k cash that they are ready to throw on a car ? ] U never know, retire man, millionaire, rotary lovers etc

Oh regarding the balance and stability bit, the S15 and the FD are quite different beasts though they're both FR vehicles.

The first thing that stands out would be the wheelbase...with the S15 winning in the length department. (2525mm vs 2425mm) this would put the S15 platform at having more straightline stability compared to the FD...and losing out in the agility department (thats not to say that the s15 is a slouch in terms of 'flickability', it is of course, the car of choice (or dreams) for many amateur and professional sideways drivers.)

Also, though manouverability of a vehicle in terms of handling is also partly a function of the polar moment of inertia (how easily it can be 'flicked' about) it is also interesting to take note of the track/wheelbase ratio. Since I'm a little lazy, you can go google the track width of the s15 and FD respectively if you're interested and get the said ratio.

By these figures alone, it would most probably show that the FD is a more darty and twitchy car compared to the s15, which would suit twisty and short courses.

Personally, I think both these platforms are excellent designs but just meant for different applications. I would go for the FD in the end, despite its infamous reputation of blowing engines and drinking petrol. Why? Disregarding the fact that its a rotary, its lighter and slightly smaller then the s15 ^^

My RM0.02

Cheers

Note: These statements regarding the manouverability of both cars are based on figures alone. They may or may not differ in real life scenarios.

Sarakun- fair enuf.:_:

Han- FYI, RX-7 suspension parts like upper arm, lower arm and camber adjuster are made by aluminium. Skyline and Silvia they are made by iron. Handling and stability are different too.

I might come to your aid again,Hanjackal as my dad happened to own a BNR32 GTR,then a S13 Silvia followed by an FD3S then a Fairlady 300ZX.So i asked him on what he thought. He said that Silvia's are a very well off car.Handling charactheristic are unique so you cant compare it directly to a FD.However, the SR20 engine is a gem to behold.500hp is not out of the question but you'll be running very high boost.

BTW,question aside, this's a rotary based section of ZTH.So anyway the answer will be biased to a RX-7 lolz

btw,you want to buy a 7..dont plan to sell it la..keep ittt!
no need to think how much can you sell it later.keep it until you die xD

Han- I know why u said IMPOSSIBLE to get loan, u told danny that u couldnt get loan and u wanted ur deposit back. Dont think danny will let u do that becoz both of u signed an agreedment. Unless u ask him to contact bank for justification.

yeah.... going into RX7 forum.. the answer are all biased to RX7...
seriously speaking.... RX7... they are older... need more money to restore them.
on and off.. there are alot of problems that very difficult to solve..
they definitely tend to take more money out of your pocket than silvia. unless you're talking about putting silvia on a 500 bhp.

if your engine is running fine, just a few mods on your engine... they are well capable of pushing your engine towards 300 over bhp. my story will be just some air intake, some restoration of vacuum hose, exhaust, a few things and one ECU...
that already bring me to 250 on the wheel... that's to consider i still have problem with my engine where at high RPM around 6.5 to 7 k i got sudden lost of ignition. that's 250 bhp.....fixing that can push me about 270 i guess. on the engine easily at 300 bhp...

but the RX7 seperates you from the rest of the group..... we are called rotary heads.....and the rest of the group are called piston heads. and HERE ARE WE... WE ARE THE ROTARIANS.

This is the whole story :

When i first saw the car,i wanted to trade in my car and pay the remaining sum with cash.(My car +45 k).Then after seeking advice from a few more experienced people (includign my dad),they told me i should get loan for the car instead. So i called Danny back and said i will get loan.Danny asked me to pay cash for the car first, because his car will have trouble going through PUSPAKOM.He said i can pay cash then refinance the car back again to avoid to trouble.Means i pay 45 k cash, then mortgage my car for 45 k and pay the bank installment. But i insisted on loan and told him i will pay the undertable to pass the PUSPAKOM which Danny told me was about 500-800 ringgit.Danny then asked me for RM5000 deposit, but i didnt pay so much because its only a deposit, which is only something to proof my seriousness in buying car.So we agreed on RM1000.

So i paid him RM1000 and tried to get loan for car. However, the bank told me that the car is too old and they will not give me a loan for the car. They can however, give me a Character loan based on my credit rating.Means they are giving ME the loan, but not to buy car.Just a normal loan. And they will not take the car back as refinancing (mortgage). They said its sports car over 10 years old, those cars are very hard to sell so in the event of people not paying their refinancing, they would have trouble to sell the car if they repossessed it.Suddenly,i decided that even if i successfully bought the car,it will be a major liability to me.Because if its such hassle to get a loan and refinancing,it will be almost impossible to sell in the future. Not only that,Danny called me back to tell me the "undertable" for PUSPAKOM is RM1500 not RM500-800.So i just called the deal off because i dotn want to buy something for so expensive, that cannot be sold later. All the money i spend on the car will be amounted to nothing at the end of the day.

However,if only the RX7 was a new car,i would really LOVE to buy it.The car is very well kept, very well maintained, and its very powerfull.Besides,Danny is a really cool guy and it was nice meeting him.

I feel this is a big misunderstanding because before i paid Danny the deposit,he should have told me how hard is it to get a loan and refinance.Instead.he told me i can easily refinance car back again to bank as mortgage.I dont know whether he is hiding that info from me to get my deposit,or he is genuinely unsure. But i believe its the better of the 2 because Danny seemed like a really cool guy.Anyway, even though i stated in black and white that the deposit should only be refunded in the event the car cant be transfered to me,it would be really nice and gentleman of him to return me my money since he told me it will be easy to refinance and i took his word for it..thats why i signed the agreement.Anyway,RM1000 is not a big sum.Its just the ethic and principle that i want to respect.I didnt pressure him to return me my money, because he has the right to keep it.And i only asked him back for the money once just to see if he will return it to me because i believe a true gentleman would return the deposit since he told me it would be EASY to refinance when its actually quite hard.Anyway,i treat the depost as a friendship gift.

I am just relating the whole story to you guys to tell you why i decide on not buying the RX7.And to proof i didnt make it up when i say its almost IMPOSSIBLE to get loan for a 1992 car!

Thanks =)

It is?

I didnt know getting a loan for an FD was so damn hard.Wonder how i'm going to buy myself one not in the distant future..jeez

Try Bumiputra Commerce? i think they have very linear terms for loan application.

My more honest word from my triple rotored heart would say

Hanjackal-san PUT YOUR BACK INTO IT.GET FD OR DIE TRYING YEA!

lolz, i'm also in the process of getting a loan. My first try was calling the bank directly. they said that the car too old to loan.

then, i went to the bank itself in JB and tried to talk the person in charge of the loan to help me. That didn't work out either. (no harm trying)

now, i'm in the midst of my third try. my friend works at a car dealer shop and said he could help me get the loan but no gurantees. He will use the dealer's company name to apply for the loan.

if that doesn't work, i'll try baloi, one of the runners (i think) at zth. he can be found at the marketplace section under Cars for Sale. He always post there, advertising his stuff. He might be able to get the loan for me.

hehe... just hope that i can get the loan as high as possible... not much for d/p.

btw, FD i'm trying to get, the owner doesn't want to accept any deposit from anybody. He said that the loan will be hard to get and will sell it to the person who manage to get all the documents ready (including the loan) at a first come first serve basis. He did mentioned to me that the car will have a hard time applying for loans.

But, i think we should know that cars with more than 10 years of age, will have a hard time getting loans.

hanjackal, if you still want to get a FD, i can help you through my friend IF he manage to get the loan for me. =)

Can loan up to RM5xK from Southern bank if u dont hv any bad records. My latest buyer could get loan up to RM47k s but he didnt hv enuf d/payment.:Not_Impressed: . Int rate between 5.8 to 6.2%. Contact me if u need further info. Cheers.

I can get loan NP from bank..just that i am thinking in the long run,if i ever decide to sell car,it will be hard to find a good buyer that is able to get loan.I dont want a car that will be so hard to sell next time...because i dont know when will i get bored of a Rotary =)

Anyway,i am quite pleased with the Silvia.Looks good, unregistered, can modify to high HP and is very stable and fun to drive.Somemore the show room owner is my dad's good friend so if anything goes wrong,i can go back and screw him up ! =D

Just wondering though, why is the silvia known as drift king when RX7 has shorter wheel base ? (Easier to flip around)

Now,you started to make me feel anxious :P

You want to compare these car is drift conditions.Yea,the Silvia sisters has the track record to prove that they're better drifters then all the RX's brothers.

However,Im starting to think that you're wanted to make your new car a drift car or something XD.

my best thoughts about what you said is that the FD arent designed to drift while Silvia does?

I dont know for sure, expert please advise.

Just to keep you checked,FD3S isnt in production anymore..its a cult car, world's best. One of the best sportscars in the 21st century.

Prices aint going down for these babies you know? They go UP UP UP ^^
Sooner or later I mean.
