if u want an engine for extreme mod, then head to vr4
if u want to just boost a lil higher , then evo3
if u want to mod a lil more evo 1 and 2

if u want to extreme mod
example , changing header banana manifold , changing intake , changing intercooler pipes , changing turbine , changing injectors , port&polish head , rebore block for bigger pistons .. if u gonna do even a few of these , WHY THE HACK by a evo halfcut and rip it, better get vr4 halfcut 3-4k kawtim, the rest money push for modding
y i say evo3 lil bit mod only
cos its a High Compression system
maybe adjust a lil more fueling and boost up to 1bar, u can feel the heaven, i felt it so i know it. After 1.2bar is an overkill for evo3 piston and internals, compare them with vr4 then u get wht i mean , its lightened and high compression pistons. bt after a lil overboosting my evo3 went to the grave
evo2 , err can ask sakura actually bout this , cypress8 oso on evo2 ,
as i know evo 1 and 2 has lower compression than evo3 , abit more suitable for a lil higher boosting than evo3 , halfcut price oso not so pricey like evo3. take evo2 la bro i tink , put a SAFC 2 , fuel regulator , higher rate fuel pump, boost up to 1.2bar , enjoy hahahhaha
if u decide to put metal gasket in any of those engine , u must accept the suffering of LOW LOW compression
