What Turbo timer for?

a lot of people using it... why?

they simply can answer for it but.. not really in details...

anyone can clarify what it is for?

just wonder...

why most standard turbo car don have turbo timer??
Porsche/Saab/Subaru/Mitsu's/Nissan all got no turbo timer...(correct me if i'm wrong)
all are above 250 bhp car...
or is there in the manual says "please keep the engine running before u off the engine"???

normally in the manual they said
'do not switch off the engine immedietly after extended period of driving'

turbines run at high revolutions, so it generates heat.oil acts as a coolant for the turbine. while driving, the turbine gets hot. if engine is shut off immedietly, the hot turbine loses its coolant(oil flow) and...it might get spoiled, similar when you sprinkle water on your windscreen on a very hot day.

that's why turbo timers are for...to cool down the turbines

just take out the keys from the ignition switch while leave the engine running for about..a minute.

or to avoid accidentally switch off the engine after driving.

just sharing what i have in mind.

when u boost ur tubo engine ... sure ur engine oil in very hot temp..... so to let the engine oil to cool down b4 u cut off ur engine......when u let ur timer on let say 3 minute ... so u leave the car so to alowed the engine still runing to run the engine oil to oil cooler to cool down ....if u didnt havr time and u just cut off ur engine in extream heat ...the hot engine oil will fried ur main bering like goreng pisang.....and second ur engine oil chemical bond will change....this will make the engine oil become less protective ur engine friction and wear.... ;) just correct me if i were wrong ok...

it made me closer to reach to my curious part...

hm.... so that's is the reason we have to leave the engine on for a while

before we cut off the ignition right?

is it possible if we just leave it alone for a while before we cut it off without

turbo timer? :P

yes you can. the reason why people buy turbo timers is for convinience sake. i know 3 mins ain't long but why wait like some stupid fella in the car then come out after 3 mins right? hahah. kiddin. :D

i leave my engine running for awhile after some hard driving without the help of a turbo timer.

er...its actually just for the fun of it..i dont quite see the point..
but if u do major modding on NA cars..like racing cams...and this will tend to cause the driver to rev higher than usual..this can also heat up ur engine..so i think the turbo timer for NA cars are for that..or for fun...hehe

nothing wrong with it..it's always good to let things cool down slowly

true,me last time no money to buy timer,so every time go out also sit inside the car n let the engine idle for a while b4 ii shut if off...well....very inconvenient lo,and also leads to many questions being asked by my friends,they were like 'y cannot switch it off immediately leh?' tired of explaining things over n over again to them la....hahha....now tht i got timer dee,they ask other questions pulak 'y ur car lock dee engine still on one?wat is it for?'....hahah....tiring man these questions :P

its not essential to install a turbo timer , well stock factory car makers who build turbocharge car's doesn't install a turbo timer as a stock specs , cause you wouldn't need 1 if the car is runing on stock setup . basically the turbo is gets enough cooling by the oil & the coolant flowing into the turbine . so there is no harm in switching off the engine unless you had just boosted the car , then you might want to leave the engine runing to let the oil & coolant to circulate to cool it down .
