- we hear ppl exchange d standard downpipe wiz after market/stainless steel ones...y is dis so?
- does changing them improve power?

appreciate s usual all ur kind opinions n explainations...

worth fitting for street play car and compulsory for track users ;) ... macam macam function ;) ... interested?

sakuraguy....

is it the nanas(what we always say in forum hee hee)... a good nanas will increase performance??

thanks for da info
:D

thnks man 4 d reference....i know how it looks like n all dat BUT my question wld b s listed above...u say dat its worth fitting for street play cars n compulsory for track usage...y is dat??4 sure lots of newbies such s myself wld wanna know which wld help us a lot in understanding more about technicals of upgrading...

downpipe is to replaced ur original CAT

by using downpipe...it direct flow out the air from ur turbine (no air restriction)

most high cc turbo car r using 3"downpipe....with piping direct to rear with 3"muffler....best flow for turbo car

as for my car....2.8k rpm..u can hear the turbo crying oledi...coz got downpipe ma....if no downpipe no sound one..

n turbo respond beter...car smother n faster..more torque..as for my car..downpipe increased 0.1bar for me

mmmm oh ok...can read well...but still dont quite understand la...hehehe sorry bro...s far s i understand the standard downpipe is quite similar in shape n design wiz d aftermarket ones...so wats d difference then?more to learn....more to understand...pls help..thnks

oic..thnks alvin...but is dat all d difference is??just a mere size makes a lot of improvements?

difference is size... standard downpipe is small.

fazidk,

The main difference is, of course, the size :). The way the downpipe is constructed and material also plays a role in getting the exhaust gasses out faster.

Do take note that not only the exhaut gasses are flowing through the downpipe, but the gasses from the internal wastegate as well. (Provided you are still using the same route as the original for the 'turbo elbow')

Imagine two gasses trying to get the shit out as fast as possible and the downpipe is too small to get it out fast..

Some people say that stainless-steel remains and gets hot fast, so if that's the case, exhaust gasses should theoritically flows faster than other form of steel.

P/S: Try not to get confused with downpipe and wastepipe...they are two totally different thing. There was a posting on wastepipe here in ZTH somewhere..try do a search for it.

Eh, so when are you free to come down to PJ for tea? :)

Size does matter... but dont' get me wrong, bigger doesn't necessarily mean better. The key word here is 'optimization'. You need to get the optimized downpipe size for your exhaust to feel the best outcome (2.5" for GSR, 3" for evo)... also would depend on your turbine size lar.

Picture yourself trying to blow off a candle... if ur mouth opening is too small or too big... u won't be able to blow the candle off. Kinda like exhaust also, you'll need to have the optimal size to produce the highest amount of backforce with the least amount of restriction. OEM exhausts usually have smaller downpipes + exhaust pipes to obey with emission rules.

I agree with hamsap... many people confuse wastepipe for a downpipe

downpipe is the stuff straight after the extractor?? something with a lot of cross-threading like pineapple 1 ar??

rescue me from my darkness...
haha

The pineapple lookalike is called the flexipipe. Its suppose to absorb exhaust vibrations if i understand correctly.

The 'bullet' are usually installed after the flexipipe and before the main rear-end muffler. I guess the correct term for them are resonators.

Google up and find more info about how exhaust manufacturers uses diff. types of way to resonate exhaust note. It's pretty interesting :)

Again, do not get confused with a 'bullet' and 'mid-box' hehe

Alvin,

Ermmm..to regulate boosts too perhaps?

name oso given DOWN pipe... so just remember, DOWNpipe is the 'vertical' pipe of the exhaust outflow (coming out from turbine) connected to the 'horizontal' pipe of exhaust outflow (the REST of your exhaust system)... so its an "L" shape loh.

If u still don't understand... then go to N1 Racing... then u go see the FULL HKS exhaust for EVOs... comes with the downpipe, flexi hose, mid box and rear muffler + pipings... then u ask N1 staff to tell what's what loh... easier for u to understand, coz' a bit hard to put it in words... if show u easier, straight away u'll understand loh.

confuse guy

So.....what u all talk just now..downpipe,bullet and all that pipe things..is it only for turbo engine??

what the best pipe for VTECH?can i oso put downpipe?

oh ok....thnks 4 all d replies man....totally appreciate them..now i got a rough idea wat it is n wat it does n how it improve performance in a way....thnks all....

p.s. oi bro hamsap...u la now sombong oredi...bisnes is good so never sms me oso anymore...how 2 go yam char wiz u...just gimme sms la...we meet up...
