hi...

i still blur about the way of upgrading fuel delivery system, espcially the fuel pump.how the fuel system in car equipped with fuel surge tank & external fuel pump functioning?

is the surge tank itself compulsory when the car use external fuel pump?
when the car have both in tank & external pumps, which one should have more pressure? i noticed most high power mods car have external pump with surge tank...

what if not using external pump...and only upgrade the intank pump to a higher pressure one? does the intank fuel pump upgrading have the limit..so that must use external pump?

thank u

actually upgrading in tank fuel pump is enough for normal use.

i'm using carb tank (no in tank fuel pump) and an external fuel pump. the problem comes when i attack corners and fuel level in tank is less than half. the fuel cant be supplied to the engine, and thus misfiring.

that is why surge tank comes handy when u use external fuel pump.

vteckiller sells custom surge tank. ask him to upload the pics.

thank u guys..

khoyos...what pressure of your external pump?

vestax...i can see the surge tank.is the car using two external pumps?

yeah , for more info on the setup or tank ask vteckiller his selling the tank alone for RM 200 if not mistaken .

hehehe i have no idea. it's bosch, from a volvo turbo. got it second hand from halfcut shop.

btw what's the price now for bosch external fuel pump, at chop shop?

well the tanks are priced at RM280..
its a newer model than from that pics..its fully chromed..very very nice..
has 2 outlets for 2 fuel pumps..and has 3holes for the top which is used for return pipes.

fuel pumps new bosch would cozt u approx RM380 ...used one approx 150 to 200 but carefully sometimes used one can kong anytime...

the pic of the above only has one fuel pump the other is a fuel filter.

we also have alluminium anodised blue, red coloured catch tanks.. POA

all at millennium motorsports asia.

cheers

I have this problem on my car also. It is an RB20DET using a bosch pump with a carb fuel tank.

Sometimes, I feel that the car loses power just before the boost comes in. Normally it happens at second gear at aprroximately above 3k RPM. But this happens on a straight lines, not only when attacking corners.

The fuel pump was provided with the engine. I'm not sure of the condition. Should I replace the fuel pump fist?

Thanks.

do u have any air/fuel ratio management? eg. safc, unichip, microtech etc. If you have u can try adjusting more fuel at 3krpm during boost and see if it solves your problem. If it does, then u don't have to change anything.

If you don't have fuel management, then it can be either :-

1. insufficent fuel pressure - need to add fuel regulator
2. insufficient fuelling - upgrade to more powerful fuel pump
3. fuel filter clogged - did u change the fuel filter during transplant?
4. fuel line clogged - check fuel line for any clog
5. injectors clogged - send for cleaning

go get yourself a new tank from potong kereta which has a fuel pump in it..
use that and no need upgrade fuel pump, that is suffiecient..get yourself a fuel regulator +meter and set it should run fine.

danny the issue with fueling is really pronounced at high rpms because the time available for the injector to squirt fuel in is limited. this time goes down as rpm goes up. if you use a small hose with low pressure to fill a bucket you can still do it if you leave it for long enough. but when you don't have the time and you still need the bucket filled, its either you get a bigger hose and make sure the water supply is strong enough, or you stick with the small hose and increase the pressure but there is a limit still ultimately. or you do both.

in my case, during the dynorun fuel regulator & safc was adjusted to the max, before boost there is sufficient fueling, but during boost, it is too lean.

there was another car there with similar setup with 2 differences ie. using bosch fuel pump & tdo5 twin fin, fuelling was very healthy (ie. a/f ratio of low 11s at 0.8 bar & high 11s at 1 bar with stock regular)

So, most likely it is the fuel pump? Or could there be other fuelling issues?

Can anyone explain how the fuel regulator works? Does it add pressure or reduce pressure in the fuel rails? And how does it do it?

Thanks.

p/s: sorry if i'm hijacking

hmmmm... I MAY have 1 unit Bosch Motorsports fuelpump for sale.
ANy1 interested?

if it's internal & the power rating is sufficient, yes I'm interested.

haha I don't think u're young enough to qualify as my nephew.
