the other day, i saw three monks walking towards a row of cars. then i noticed a new model estima. on my mind was, couldnt be the estima.

then the monks got into the estima and one of them is driving it! REAR GLASS BLACK-TINTED! luckily its not fully bodykit.
I AM TOTALLY SPEECHLESS AND STUN!:shocked:

then i think, why do we have work like cows and most of us got nothing. but they got to drive estima. what do u all think?

My usual Char Koay Teow seller in PG owes a Merc S Class...

dude, i'm a buddist... but i have admit that the temple has alot of cash from donations and contributions...

but about the luxury of cars... really cast some doubts around it. Its sorta contradict wit the teaching of the buddha. But then again, ppl move on.. time changes, perhaps religion learns to adapt wit the things around it?

i don't know... i choose not to seek further into it.

but as for the hawkers.... i'm not surprise wit that... especially those like chicken rice stall, or charkuehteow... man... like what acbc said, some drives merc s-class, i've seen chicken rice seller with Evo 7.... etc... those are cold hard cash man.....

a price to pay la.. they dont get to sit in office like us... enjoy aircon... work 8 to 5pm kind of job.. food business is not easy man... no doubt money return is good if successful, but itz really tiring and not easy... u gotta sacrifice your life for it...

my aunt whom sells stuffs at psr pagi and mlm... she can chinchai buy a car like toyota with cash... but.... she has wake up like darn early in the morning before sunrises, to prepare all the stuffs..... rush to the market.. sell... come back... prepare for night time.. etc..

so much so that she can afford to open a floral shop for her daughter to do business... wow..

i've seen 2 monks come out of a brand new 5 series, go to the back of the car, remove their shoes and take out alms bowl and start going around asking for donations. All this happened in Amcorp Parking. I too was completely speechless.

I've always wondered how monks who go table to table collecting donations got about. Isn't there some rule against living an extravagant lifestyle or something? I mean I understand they need money to survive. Traditionally they would rely on villagers donating food for them to eat. Now they probably need money to maintain the temple. But if what you guys say is true and they're getting about in luxury vehicles, is that allowed given their choice of life?

Doesn't matter if it is allowed or not. If you fucking drive an expensive car, you fucking shouldn't be asking for alms. That's just not right and they should be shot in the face. Monks need donations because they don't have a job and they need money to get by and to maintain the temple. Not buy cars, certainly not expensive ones. Unless it is donated. But then they should sell it instead. They are not supposed to have an extravagant life...anyway, it's just wrong.

Maybe the luxury car is sponsor by other rich people for the conveniences of the monk to go around le.
So we cannot blame them. Other people willing to give them or sponsor them with $$$$ and car. So this is their capabilities.

i dont think they live extravagantly (expensive taste) but they dont live in "poverty lifestyle".

ie. I guess they dont buy poor cars/ poor resale cars or cars that dont break down unnecessarily (ie polotong). They are by nature quite thrifty on the expenditures. I not a buddist but do see their daily traits as there is a temple next to my office
(everybody knows the estima can carry quite a number of people, but at least its not a Yota 3.4L alphard) Expect them to haul in a nissan venntte??

modern monks are vr different than those old days shaolin monks lo... they dont carry water buckets and walk the whole mountain... they drive luxury cars around...
last time i went to a temple in cameron highlands, the monk drive honda accord and other luxury cars... imagine that... we work so hard day and night and drive proton wira... they sit at the temple and pray for money coming in... and indeed, the cash did flow in...
if like that i dont wanna work lo.... everyday pray at home and hope someone will deliver cash to me...

Yeah, u both are right. I got to know a few monk and our relationship is quite good. They drive very nice cars, BUT the cars are not bought by them! It is sponsor by some rich man.

They might be some of them asking for donation around and still driving nice ar. Those are not the REAL monk. Those are con man! Btw, those donations in the temple are not hold by the monks as they got society to handle it. Unless some of those rich man giv $ to the monk personally. Hm..I don't think we should tok anything about MONK as this is quite a religious topic. By the way..im a free thinker..! hehe..
