Hi everyone,

My girlfriend is planning to buy the new Suzuki Swift and I'm wondering if anyone here owns 1 or has some insight on this car. I would liketo know more about this car before we decide on buying it. I've got some question for ZTH members, and especially owners of the Swift.

My questions are:
1. Is this car reliable?
2. Is there any drawback?
3. Is there a problem in acquiring spare parts?

So far this is the only question I can think of now but please feel free to add in more info if there's any.

Thanks on advance.
Cheers...

I don't know anyone who has one, but I did test drove it before.

I have to say it feels pretty solid for a Japanese K-car. Although it might be comfortable for normal sized Asian, the boot space might be a tad bit small. It is still no biggie, considering you're buying a sport hatch and not a mini van.

Noticed the engine only has a 9.5:1 compression ratio. Might be because of emission regulation. But personally, I think the engine is a turbo engine. Just look at the engine bay and you'll know what I'm talking about.

As for spare parts, still not too sure being a new car and all. It's available that's for sure, but might have to ordered as per needed basis.

Overall, I think it's a very capable city cruiser. The handling is sweet, the feel is solid. The question remains : do you really want a small hatch for 80k?

yah... of coz there are much more hatchback around in the market.... do a survey and see which one suits u...

yah, suzuki swift isnt bad... but of coz, the more choices the better...

great choice!! if u have $$.. my friend has one. but i still think its kinda expensive for the car that size. reliability, i would say YES. drawback, i would say that the cd changer is embedded to the console and hard to ICE it. Very stylish curves, I LIKE~ He went up genting the other day with no problem at all. Superb handling.

my lil'sis bought the new swift bout 3 monthz back. Ok la.. not bad, and quite spacious.. if u notice itz really as big as some of the asian sedans.

power wise.. ok.. not bad...

the only factor... price. Kinda mahal.....

i mean its sleek and cheaper than jazz..but if u could pay that price..better go for other car manufacturer

anyway i m aware that the maintainance of suzuki is pretty high wan...their parts is costly. But i still remember if u get the swift now, they are having a 3 year free maintainance at suzuki's service outlet...cheers

i like the swift look nice but i heard they coming out another swift version which
more sportier n nicer engine. i dunno how far is it true. people say what i listen only hehe.. but if anyone who wanna give me a swift i dont mind.. model also nvm ahahah

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your replies. I agree witht the looks of the car, it's sleek and has a slight look of the cooper, i guess cos it's designed in Italy.

ModMaestro, The car felt pretty solid and the drive is also smooth, handling wise too. I didn't notice much in the engine bay, you mean this is originally a turbo engine?

Verticalimit, yes they're coming out with a sports version somewhere next year. Yellow in colour and 1.6 engine.

I.C.E. wise, shouldn't be a problem, most girls don't really care about that, as long as there's sound is enough.

Are you guys saying that there are better cars out there with this price? I mean, my girlfriend is more comfortable in something compact like the Swift. My initial option for her was the Vios, but complained too big. The other option is the Jazz la, but that's like an extra 20k. Of course that would be nice la with the v-tec and al.l hehehe.
What do you guys think? Swift, Jazz or any other recomendations? In terms of ride, power, safety, handling, servicing, and spare parts.
I also noticed that the petrol tank of the Jazz is underneath the driver and passenger, isn't that dangerous?

Looking forward to your feedback again.
Thanks...

my fren hav one and ive been 'tumpang' him for the last two month..overall its a nice car..quite big for a sporthatch..the seats are supportive(but i prefer proton semi bucket in wira 1.6 millenium)..legroom adequate for front passenger, quite problematic for big ppl sitting in rear..handling is nice, the engine is smooth..yes the cd changer is embedded to the dashboard..and the sound system is not satisfying enough (rattles the plastic interior if u play high bass, techno songs)..outer look is ok but i like it if the rims are bigger and the tyres are fatter..tougher look for its frog like curve..

djgerm..becos swift is a new model in malaysia..sure the spare parts price is high..hav to order direct from japan while jazz hav establish here..

and for a girl..this car is perfect..but for guys..better save money and buy vwgolf...jk

yah yah... between golf GTi and swift, i prefer the golf...
opel astra also not bad... vr fierce look...

dai lou, how much a golf gti will cost? :D

swift's handling is good.... :D its fun n safe to drive fast with the chasis...

1.5 vvt with 105hp+-... nice ma... tried drag with jazz vtec, although swift hp is slightly lower, but can overtake the jazz vtec slowly slowly... really slowly... hhaa... means power i think almost the same....

read some foreign mag, seems swift's safety is slightly better than jazz but while jazz have more space at the boot... :D but 20k extra la.. :D

haha... we dun say about price first mah... we help him decide... if he likes golf then save more money lo... kekekeke....

Apparently, I heard that the Suzuki spare parts industry is monopolized by one company in Malaysia and hence a tid bit more expensive since the price is more or less their call. Is that true? I wanna find out because the Swift is damn sweet but don't really dare to buy it because I am worried about future servicings.

Hey everyone,

encikmasen, I agree with you on the sitting position for big people but I don't think we'd be taking big people in this car la...that one will be my car's job. For a girl I guess the sound system is good enough la, they don't need high tech ICE if you know what I mean. The one I tested in Sri Hartamas had a set of 17 inch rims on and it was sweet but I didn't feel very comfortable when on uneven roads, guessed it's the huge rims fault...I guess now the thing I'm worried about is the spare parts.

Brother kwai...how are you man? Long time no hear...read in your thread your mum just got a Swift. How is it so far? Where did you read the article about the safety features you mentioned?

Skywalker, VW Golf Gti is sweet man...but 100k extra man...that one I'll buy for myself, that is if I can afford it la, I know I cannot afford it now, too expensive. Maybe in the next few years time when I get promoted, that is if it's still in Malaysia.

For now my focus is either on the Jazz vtec or the Swift. Maintainence and parts will be the main priority here.
Has anyone of you driven the Jazz and the Swift before? Can you give a comparison of the 2?
Correct me if I'm wrong, I know that the Jazz can be easily modded but Swift not so easy right? This mods are more for my satisfaction la, not for the girlfriend.

madcow,

the swift is doing great for our family,

its fuel efficient(tats why we sold our perdana v6 to get this swift),
enough power for daily drive(as quick as jazz vtec),
attract attention on the road(much rare than vios n jazz, city on the road)
good handling(which i enjoy most, can play with it...:D )

try test drive at other showroom with 15"...
its comfort yet nice to drive fast in corner...

the article i read frm chinese magazine...
some comparision with

old model VW gol(made in china), jazz, swift n chevolet aveo.

the swift there are 1.3 manual, then the jazz are 1.5 vtec..
but in malaysia,

swift are 1.5vvt 105hp auto gearbox
jazz vtec 1.5 110hp cvt gearbox

wanna give my oppinion but its been told edi...

but when the spare part is consern, must remember that suzuki malaysia is a company under DRB. so parts they will have... its also a rule when u wanna open a big dealership.. u need all of this... not like those cars where u import cars 1 by 1...
suzuki also has a 3S center in T.Tun. so sont worrie bout the spare part... oni small mater. but price im not sure... if they get from japan then might b alil expencive la... so to all owners remember to service ur car at the service center.. got 2/3 years warantty on all parts!!!

just wanna say this la..
if lari topic i say sorry 1st...
i placed my booking 4 the swift on sept 6. they say will take a few weeks
to get the car out. applied 4 the loan n all and it took less than a week to get it approved from the bank.

placed my order at suzuki 3S (mofaz)
till now i still have not heard bout the car!!
every week i ask the salesman n the manager n all they can say is next week come out...
its been 2+ months n still they say next week come out.

but i cannot balme them bout this delay... as u all know wit the A.P under declaring n all the customs cannot realese the car from the port.

this is not oni for suzuki but all cars that are imported which has reach the port.
i ask honda, toyota, cheverolet n they all say the same thing.. A.P sangkut!!

so if i wanna order any imported car i just wanna say u need some patience...
but to those who orded the MyVI u ppl very bersabar.. hehehe must wair at least 4 months...

Hey kwai,
Thanks for the elaborated info, appreciate it alot.
It looks like they rated the Swift better than the Jazz. I'll google for the safety onfo then.

How about everyone else, any input on the matter?

Thanks again...
