trying to resolve my friend's streamyx prob

os: win98
modem: zte zxdsl 831
dialer: zte adsl

prob: some sites can load eg. google,unlinked.net and some sites cant eg hotmail, webmail.tm.net.my, windows.com

things i tried:
1. reinstalled dialer
2. chcked the internet settings, dns, proxy
3. chcked drivers
4. the line seems okay

didnt have mch time to do other try other stuff.
1.gona try to redo the dns settings. it seems the default keeps coming back after closing ie. i think i have to chck the manual settings box or something like that but im not sure whether it worked. got to try that.
2. try to find updates for the dialer n maybe flash the modem

any other suggestions?

Check the DNS.

Use any of the following:

202.188.0.132
202.188.1.5
203.121.16.85
203.121.16.120
161.142.2.17
161.142.227.17

acbc : i tot TMNET DNS servers are only the 1st 2 IPs ? the rest are router IPs ?? since when they had 6 DNS servers ?

i think they have a few dns.

btw i forgotten to add the spyware solution. i still have yet to try it.
anyone have xperiences with this modem?

TMnet's DNS always kaput... better use other ISP's DNS as backup... such as Jaring n Time.

BTW, TMnet has 6 DNS servers... all also kaput at the same time.

Eg. with TMnet DNS, I cannot access vfaq.com but with other ISP's DNS such Time, I can access the site... puzzle!?!?

had that prob before, try upgrading to windows XP, everything resolve.. or else.. try to update the windows.. might have some critical updates

hmm.. u mean using other ISP punya DNS on streamyx ? boleh ka ? hmm...

Ya, why cannot? I used NTT n TimeNet DNS all the time on Streamyx...

The only ISP which do not allow their DNS to public is Maxis (only Maxis customers can use it).

acbc... oo okay okay... so which one most stable one ? share share.. hehehe...

thanks so much in advance. . . learnt something new again today.

If you can't run Windows XP coz your pc isn't fast enough try Linux as it doesn't use as much resources but don't use Fedora if you only got 64mb of RAM.

linux does not like modems (hard to configure) but it likes routers very much ;)

sorry lah not so geng to use linux
her specs arent that good.
p2 with 64mb ram
if i can upgrade the ram i think that might help a bit.

well try get the spy ware removal tool , and see what happen next , cause a few of my friends had this prob , after helping them removing the spy ware everything went back to normal .

anyway i use to run on my server's dns , and sites like zth and some of those sites hosted at the same server can't enter  why ah ?. hehe but using the server's dns is kind of smooth .

P2/64mb ram ah?
your gf's computer is it?
*hehe*
she got no budget to upgrade?
your streamyx modem type uses windows logon to authorized it to connect, right?
mine came with a dialer program, you want?

nah not my gf lah
i dont think ive met my equal yet but she's nice

she has a dialer
i hvnt had time to go ove n try
i got finals tomorrow n weds
after that i'll try

apparently the zte modem is not in the list of certified modems n yet the telekom ppl give this modem
yikes

anyways i'll post the end result later
thanks peps!

i dont think she would like that :P
maybe she's not ur type
then jialat lah if u go

kesian u bro
i jst finished my finals
hmmm good opportunity to fix her connection
n take the opportunity to spend more time with her :D

update
i've asked her to chck all her setting
including dns n proxy
everything chcks out okay

except for the ping test
that didn't work nicely

so the nxt thing is going over to her place to test my modem at her place
n the spyware stuff

now this prob happens occasionally
