Aiya Allan, RON 100 we cannot make full use of it la. In traffic jams even worse. Engine sure ping one. Should look at why we are in Ron97-98 category. Its because of our freaking weather. Ron100 is almost like kerosene which is also like aircraft fuel. Just check that many cold countries have RON100 where warmer countries have RON 95-98. Its like RON 100 takes longer to ignite, but once it burns, it burns longer.

Another reason is handling. Means its is safer for them to transport it. I read it once before in some mag and also newspaper. They did explain why not to go RON 100 and V Power is only RON 98. I read many sites also have same claims.

1- the higher the ron, the lesser chances of pingging, not the other way around.
2- a 97ron fuel will have the same ignition and flame propagation rate to a 100ron fuel. the only diffrence is the self ignition point (of which is the point of pingging).
3- petrol is petrol, it will have the same fire risk no matter at what ron it is.
please check your facts first before posting.

self ignition, preignition or auto ignition occurs when the air-fuel temperature is raised high enough. when it occurs, higher than desirable pressure pulses are generated. this is called as knock or ping and it is audible.

to prevent it, higher ron(research octane number) are used as higher ron has a higher self ignition temperature, where it may only ignite by a spark-from the spark plug.

Oh i reversed the pinging facts. My bad. :confused_smile: But i know not much difference in performance if your engine isn't tuned to make use of RON100. Oh damn i did read about it in some economic magazine about fuel handling! Different fuel with different fuel tanks. I also remember it was by ExxonMobil exec.:angel_smile: Someone did also post here a long description about RON and MON usages waaayyyyy back. The thread is no more when i searched it. :Not_Impressed:

shell gave me a rm50 card for the new fuel but have to wait for a day off and an empty tank before i can test it.

Why the engine ping when using RON 100? higher RON suppose to be knock resistant
