Rx7 or Rx8 ?

i may plan 2 buy a rx7 or rx8 but im not 2 sure which is better...i heard that the rx7 handling is better..but rx8 is a 1.3 same as rx7 but is at least 200k+ ...or shud i use that cash n buy some other car like maybe the evolution 8 or a skyline for 150k....? any suggestions and btw wat is da max speed a rx7 n rx8 can reach if modified extensively...thanks ppl

RX8 is better in handling and more economical in fuel... but it's under power.... One marvelous thing about NA Renesis is that it can rev higher at 11k (after removing the RPM cut)....

RX7 is definitely more power since turbo is powering the car.....RX8 has less mod option at the moment. Firstly the engine bay is pack n putting in turbo is difficult without removing battery and air filter box.

Secondly the ecu is much more high tech n runing at 32 bit .... which is similar or better than HKS V-Pro..... The original ECU is drive by wire n reads the owner's driving style very well.... So piggyback CU is useless in this case..... Furthermore local workshop cant fine tuned the car without replacing the original ECU.... So at the meantime oni Japs Tuners is capable.......

However i believe the RX8 will have a lot more things to mod in the future.....

I havent driven a RX7.... but Keiichi Tsuchiya himself did say the handling of RX8 has improve a lot compare to RX7.... check out BMI.... i cant remember which version it is..... i wouldnt be suprised if that is true, just look at the time Mazda put on their efforts....

Two completely different cars. one is a 2 door turbocharged sports car and the other a 4 door NA rotary. Please bear in mind, the rx8 is and was never intended to replace the rx7. Both being niche in their own segments and have pros and cons like any other car.

To me the rx was always meant to be my "other" car which basically translates to a weekend car. the main factor that motivated me to purchase one wa the sheer fact that it was powerful. Not just i thought it was powerful but most everybody. It was cheap to mantain as parts are in abundance and very good technical sites for the DIY'ers. Also the price was reasonable considering it punches out in excess of 200rwhp in stock form.

I like the rx8 aplenty, i mean it looks good and it goes great, and i'm sure after more than 10 years of manufacturing they've improved the 8's handling. Maybe once the value drops further lets say in the region of 100k-120k i'd buy one and hopefully by then there'll be more tuning parts and hopefully halfcuts (at a cheaper price) so people like 13btt and meself can go tinkle with!!

I've personally tried both RX-7 FD3S and RX-8 SE3P (i got this).
i guess im quite lucky as my father is quite a hardcore carhead and he changes his cars quite alot.

abang Phat7 is definitely right,the term *different animal* is very correct.
and mista' Lennon,the BMI episode you are talking about is either episode 7 (Rotary Reborn) or episode 27 (Rotary Rocket)

the RX-7 is a much stiffer and focused driver's car compared to the RX-8.Well the RX-8 has a different tuning philosophy anyway,it uses a very different chassis config compared to RX-7.The RX-8 is noticably more soft and more body roll compared to the RX-7 FD

But,there are clear advantage.We ZTH heads,drive in Malaysian roads rite..
not British A or B roads,we drive the same roads lori treler uses hahahaha..not some Nurburgring Nordschliefe or some Lake Como.RX-8 definitely is a better choice for a true enjoyable experience (not biased ok dont shoot me hahaha)

The softer setup is more supple and got more flair compared to the harder more aggressive FD.I drove both FD and SE3P on the same piece of road
Most of you would know Bukit Putus (the road from Seremban to Kuala Pilah?)

On the terms of outright speed,nothing will take the glory away from the FD..heehee (refering to the RE Amemiya SuperG..hahaha)

On the RX-8,i just got my "legal" license..so ill be doing some video about the car and post it in my blog soon..i gonna do some project with it..

heehee,and i can go to the RE meeting also YEAH!!!

My plans & comments

Very good and fair comments from Diablo of which most I agree.

Since the sale of my RX-7 I am considering a change to an RX-8 given it is newer, has a more supple ride for our crappy roads here and 4-door, 4-seat practicality. However, going from a 7 with HUGE power & torque to an RX-8 with only 210HP (as tested by many in the USA:shocked: ) will be disappointing so i'll have to bolt on the RM20k knightsports supercharger kit to boost power to 290 horses...this is an absolute MUST for me PLUS the MS bodykit to make it look more agressive and masculine :confused_smile:

However, I plan to wait till 2007 before making any final decision to check out if there will be a replacement 7. :shades_smile:
