Would y'all prefer that roundabouts be removed and replaced with traffic lights?

Remarks :
  • Let's assume the traffic lights have good and proper timings, and not turn red again in just 5 seconds.
  • Assuming round abouts only have 2 lanes and NOT 3 lanes like the stupid MRR roundabout.
Kindly place your votes.

Could also share your opinions, views, etc.

roundabouts man! on rush hours, traffic lights are way to slow.... take the petaling jaya

roundabout near ss 3 n ss 5 for instance..since they change it to traffic lights, the place is

always jammed! my 2 cents la :)

I beg to differ.

For a small town where the traffic is moderate, a roundabout works best. For a big town like PJ, Sunway, KL and etc, the traffic light is the best solution.

I hate it when these assholes comes out from their junction slowly where else i'm approaching the junction only to brake so damn hard.

mysupra,
You have your point there. Missed out a certain something in my first post. Ammended liao. hehehe

prodigy,
True. Low traffic with round abouts would be alright. High traffic, a properly timed traffic light would be better.
As for those dumb asses who drive slow when entering a roundabout, guess they don't give a rat's ass about you and you should just get in front of `em, stop `em, and kill `em. I'm sure we don't need inconsiderate fuckups like them.

Like you say satria_95 if they are able to get the timing right it would certainly be good.. but so far the only round about that i have been on that doesn't cause trouble is a round about with traffic light in klang.. very well time... the rest.. traffic light or roundabout still causes a big jam

i had a minor accident at roundabout and the driver refused to be responsible....so traffic light is my vote

i second prodigy's opinion....still remember the hell subang ppl went thru at the SS15 and SS13 roundabout....even though it was replaced with NPE's new flyover....but those roundabout are hell on earth....Traffic Light are my preferred choice

Dino,
Round about with traffic light? I never came across that before. hehehe

Come down to Klang and i'll show you the one and only roundabout that has not one but FOUR traffic lights in it. And yes, this is a very well timed traffic light. But of coz during the morning crawl there's cops to guide them.

come to sungei wei n i'll show u the smallest roundabout in the world.... only using a milo tin and 1 wood thing to show that it is a roundabout ahhah

haha.... that great traffic light.. always pass by it on the way 2 my friend's place....

in an ideal world, roundabouts work perfectly. the problem lies with malaysian drivers. everyone gets a bit overzelous and squeezes into the roundabout at the same freaking time from all directions causing the traffic flow to come to a complete halt. it's damn dumb really. if drivers had more ettiquette and took turns entering and exiting roundabout, walah! no problem.

traffic lights aren't ideal either as malaysian drivers usually underestimate the lenght of their cars and stick their cars into the back of the pack leaving them stranded in the middle of the interchange after their light has turned red. this hampers the traffic flow from other directions.

if i were to pick the lesser of 2 evils, i'd got for traffic lights. having said this, it's damn dumb when u get to an intersection at 2 am and have to wait for the lights to change even when there are no cars. when i was in oz, the lights had sensors and changed immediately when there were no cars. wtf am i paying taxes for again?

it depends on how many cars use that particular road and how many lanes etc etc

Aged enough to drive but not aged enough to use the brains. Take his number plate. Then spend a bit of money to hire a bounty hunter to wipe out that driver and his/her family. We don't need more of his/her generation to be on the surface of planet earth. Better to end his/her generation just like that.

boggysv,
I'm not familiar with KL road names la. hehehe I'm like a katak di dalam fully-loaded-war-tank. hehehe

Duke Red,
Agree with your points. But then, if everybody knows how to use the round about, then traffic lights would sure to be problem free too. hehehe I just feel there is close to NO etiquette in a round about. I once asked a traffic police officer, and a few of them in different occasions too. All of them said this....
"In a round about, those who want to turn left should only use outer lane. Those who go straight, turn right and U-turn must use inner lane. If an accident occurs, the driver in the inner lane will always have the right of way. Something similar with a situation where a car bang the rear of the front car. The car behind will always be wrong."

Bulatan Davis?

As for me, I'd go for traffic lights for developing hell-cities and its outskirts. Abolish all roundabouts within the radius. And big, small roundabouts for the less traffic areas.

I had to go through 5 roundabouts daily to go to my uni in Newcastle last time, back and forth means 10. Not even once it was jammed up. Peak hours or not.

Why?

It boils down to the attitude. Priority to the cars from the right side and whatnot.

So traffic lights for Malaysians in the (Tak)Bolehland.

EXACTLY. i've havent stopped committing to the cause but its so goddamned frustrating. the example i've got is a bit off topic btw, so very sorry to jerry-san, but i still feel like sharing.

its your common traffic jam, where a 3 lanes of cars converge to 2 lanes. i'd look at the car on my right, and if me and another car come to the terminal point where one has to give way, i'll brake and signal him to go ahead if his nose got in first. fine, no problem there. the fuck of the shit is when EVERY BLOODY ELSE behind him rushes in sticking their nose like they're the only ones late to go home. bloody pieces of fuck i try to show them the 1 by 1 rule; let one go, then i go, then 1 go alternately. but no... sadly we malaysians dont know that rule. the quicker-reacting and closest bumper to bumper lane gets to hog the line, leaving courteous and timid drivers stuck making the jam worse.

we are only bloody concious about OUR OWN priorities when it comes down to these simple road courtesy situations. bloody hell. makes my blood boil everytime. do i have to shout at someone for ignoring the priority/junction-right-of-way courtesy just bcoz its not a written rule... sigh.

*deeep breath* i'm... OKAY! i'm chilled! i'm fine!

this rule is correct. it's damn fucking annoying when some cunt on my left wants to stay in the roundabout when i'm trying to exit. some people use their indicators which is not as bad but some cunts dont and take the risk of causing a collision.

Duke Red,
I agree with you somewhat but abotu the indicators part, I would have to disagree. Outer lane means outer lane, which means ONLY for turning left. I do not tolerate anything other than that, with or without indicators. And I have given up about not using my horn, just to be polite. I'll horn as long as my horn can hold up. I'm now planning on using a long stick to smack the rear of their cars after they pass me. If they can't learn, I'll have to give `em a lesson.

I think u misunderstood me. I said using indicators is not as bad as not using them. I like you, think it's unacceptable behaviour irregardless but it's the lesser of 2 evils here. I once horned kau some wanker and he gave me the finger! Mahaiz! Freaking coward only did it after I exited the roundabout. Not often have I wished and prayed so hard for a U-turn to appear

Duke Red,
Oh hehehe Well, in a way, yeah, you've got a point. With indicators, at least you'll know well before hand that that driver on the outer lane with indicators is a fuckhead, rather than he not using indicators and blocked your way then only know that driver is a fuck head. Know what I mean ar? Or confused already? hahahaha If I manage to get an automatic elastic, I'll let you know how to get one. We can then put it in the car. When any fuckhead has blocked us and passed us, we blast their rear windscreen. Hell yeah! One for one, an asshole for an asshole.
