A Malaysia Airlines engineer was slashed to death in front of his horrified girlfriend in an apparent road rage attack tonight.
Low Kok Seng, 35, died of neck wounds in the incident, which occurred along the busy Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Highway near Desa Petaling.
Police have classified the case as murder.
The victim and his girlfriend, whose identity has been withheld, were returning to the city when the incident took place near the Desa Petaling exit to the highway.
According to initial investigations, a motorist in a vehicle behind Low’s was flashing his lights, indicating impatience.
Low noticed it but ignored the motorist until a minor tailgate collision took place.
The motorist then overtook Low’s grey Proton Waja and forced Low to stop in the emergency lane.
The man then alighted from his car and confronted Low.
An argument ensued, and the other man returned to his vehicle to retrieve "something" from his car. He returned seconds later and slashed Low’s neck.
When Low collapsed bleeding, his assailant jumped into his car and sped off. His girlfriend flagged down a taxi, which took her to a nearby police station.
She returned with the police, and found Low dead.
Low was from Kedah but had been living in Taman Seri Sinar Segambut. He was attached to the MAS engineering department and was responsible for aircraft maintenance.
Low and his girlfriend, a bank employee in her 20s, were travelling from Carrefour in Seri Petaling towards Desa Petaling for supper.
City Criminal Investigation Department deputy chief Assistant Commissioner Ramli Din confirmed the incident but declined further comment.
Police are appealing to those with information on a Federal Territory-registered car bearing the number 9994 to contact 03-21159999.
This was the latest in a series of road rage cases. The last incident on Jan 25 involved 28-year-old Muhammad Nazri Ismail, who was bludgeoned to death with a steering lock along Persiaran Kewajipan in Subang Jaya.
Nazri, a Cheras Umno Youth member, was found unconscious not far from his car with injuries to the head, arms and body.
Two men were charged in a magistrate’s court on Jan 14 with causing his death.
