Guys, anyone of you hit a pothole before ? Just want to know anyone experience before a bent rim cause hitting a pothole ?

There are few types of potholes.
Moon craters potholes are form due to rain corrosion or inproper road resurfacing and forms lots of small size potholes at a section of the road which is quite bumpy if you go through them fast ? Did anyone had a bent rim due to this ?

A big pothole form due to weak under surface strenght. this is form if the road is frequently travelled by heavy vehicles. This potholes really can be nasty cause you can't really tell its a pothole or a pile os water sitting there. Did anyone had rim damage from this ?

Man made type. where they cut a section of the road and expose the stone surface. It can be horizontal or vertical. If horizontal it usually go across the road surface while vertical it will go along the road surface mostly on the side of the roads. It will look like a longkang. Anyone got a bent rim because of this ?

Which one is the most brutal rim killer ? I think this info can help us to avoid having a bent rim and be more careful.

I hit one last night, it was a man made one, forgot to slow down and was to late to brake so just go over it quite fast. My heart feels like got stab by a knife but lucky the rims was fine when i got home and check it visually and steering was not vibrating when travelling at any speed.

how come...in the middle of highway, on the fastest lane, there's this thing like manhole cover....coming out from its hole....and suddenly..bang!!

adoi!!!!.......sure u understand how it feels deep inside.......sssttttttt....something like that.....pedih oiiiii!!!!!!

but i'm not as lucky as u.......stopped at a petrol station right after and found a slight-but -noticeable bent on the front right wheel................

so...anyone knows where i can get this fixed? i heard there's one shop in jln kapar, klang...really cheap and good and can get it done in less than a day, but donno the name and exact location.

Any type of potholes would result in rim damage, the question is how badly damaged your rim is. I've been to many countries and i've not seen a country like Malaysia which has so many potholes on the roads. Just outside my house leading to the main road, there's a huge pothole, As i pass the first traffic light, the roads are so bumpy, And then there's another junction which was badly damage of lorry. And in my workplace in section 28 Shah Alam, the roads looks like a bomb just dropped and there is no way to avoid it at all. Everywhere is just full of uneven roads. It sickens me to see the condition of the road that we drive by, and the government even plans to increase toll fares by next year.

As for my car, when i changed my tyres, the mechanic says my rims are damaged already. I didn't believe him but when i saw the rims myself, i'm quite surprised its quite visible the rim is bengkok. Definitely its due to the fuckup roads that i travel everyday. And i'm not even a rough driver on the road, i try to avoid as many holes as possible.

i've got the same problem like prodigy..thanks to the neverending roadworks..gali tampal gali tampal..not only moon surface..its like a battle field out there..twice have to reapair the rims (luckily still using original one)..it made me think, with this road condition how ppl still use 40 series tyre? 60 series suffer much oredi..

Do you guys think 50 series tyres is enough ?
Actually right after we hit a pothole how do we identify whether the rim is bent or not ?
Sterring vibrates at all speed ? or what ?

Lucky lah a bit, i was running at 50 on 5th gear, but my car melambung abit lah
I was like FAAAAARRRRRKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!
then go to petrol station to look see look see
and see the rim was misaligned. Maybe its the lower arm benkok lah nvm.

Te next day went workshop, lift the car

Can't be helped... we have the worst city roads in SEA. With each repair, pesky contractors would dug the newly repaired road. I believe the local council is sleeping on the job.

If they can afford to fine people for illegal parking, they should pay more attention and fine the contractors or the contracting company.

Yea, damn it man. I damn hate the pot holes. Those that are natural are bad enough, and to make matters worse, we have man made potholes. Damn, I don't mean to say it is wrong to make manmade potholes if we really need to repair something, but hey, do it fast and get it sealed as soon as possible!!! Don't leave it hanging there for ages. DARN IT!!! I want a comfy right and I don't wish to spoil my car!

Yes, one of the main culprits are contractors who dig a long stretch of road for piping or cable laying but does a shaddy job in covering it up. If anyone of you is fammiliar with Bukit Tinggi Klang whereby the roads leads up to Kesas Highway, that is one fuckup road. The contractors dig one side of the road for about 1KM or so and does a very bad patch up and the road was so terrible that a motorcyclist would have dies had he not notice that stretch. In fact i was caught unaware the first few days and my whole car went shaking. I think now they have partially re-tar the road.

My colleague ended up with a flat tire due to a huge pothole. This was the mother of all potholes that birds would have their bath in after heavy rain. Upon inspection, found out that the side wall was damaged and had to be replaced. No idea about the rims though.

the funny thing is when a VIP is coming to visit somewhere, the worst road there will be fixed instantly. :rolleyes:

Aisay, no need to repair la..those VIPs won't feel a thing in their Merc.

lessons learnt back in 1996. front sport rim broken, after 2 weeks the rear one broke also. costed me RM200 for each replacement.

very expensive, to consider it was only Suzuki RG Sports. :D
same heart bypass happened to me like GTi becoz salary only RM600. makan maggi mee til end of month.!!

nowadays, i am ultra careful though and not taking any chances. ultra low profile tyres looks cool, but the rides really uncomfortable while not improving much roadholding. i go with 4A-GZE also...he he to drive at slower pace and be extra cautious.

not only on normal days potholes suck..
u know when it rains?it fills up the potholes..
it becomes farking invisible la!

i agree with what hornydrifter said. All because those bloody contractors not being truthful with what they do. And some have very low working efficience. Can let the dig up area for weeks without any sign or warning light. Those man made potholes can be a very shock surprise to us. No pothole...then at night suddenly one big ass crater in the middle of the road..

today hit another pothole near MFI..blardy hell..they tar it and then two days later got deeper holes..

highway also...especially going back north, after ipoh...right up to bkt kayu hitam...

like this time i kena...who would expect, an unproperly closed manhole cover, right in the middle of the fast lane, on our so-called highway...?
