Was wondering how can u tell that your fuel pump is about to "kaput". How much does it cost for an Evo 3 fuel pump and where could i get it from? Another thing my car jerks at high rpm esp 6.5k and misfires quite often. Isit bcoz of spark plugs and cable or insufficient fuel? FYI im still using those items from the half cut...hope sifus in ZTH could help me out. Thanks in advance :huh:

GTIEVO3: helo....i still have the same problem...i change the spark plugs, cables, fuel filter....problem still the same....

can ne one help me on this too, mine also will jerk during high rpm/when the turbo start to kick in..but the problem is there is no BACKFIRE....for example...i tekan, boost come...after a certain period of time, it jerk, BOV open, boost drop, the feeling is like there is not fuel coming in to the combustion chamber.... ;)
 
u can put a small gauge near the fuel filter or use the fuel regulator gauge to check if the pressure is weak. the best alternative is to have a external backup fuel pump or even run parrallel with a switch control.

abt the jerking thing, based on personal experience its running on lean. probably the rest can share some stories.

Hello there eVo3, problem still persists after u changed all that? i tot of changing the plugs and cables first. Btw isit true that misfires means that you engine is running rich?
 
yup..that wat my friend say cos the unburn fuel will cause the backfire.....
 
For my car, is running too lean. I got the misfiring too. When I check the spark plug, the color of the spark plug turn white on it's kepala.

Was advised by my mech to change the fuel pump as currently I'm still using a dented fuel pump from the hc.

so u mean that if the head of the spark plug is whitish the engine is running to lean?
 
Sounds like u guys have not enough fuel going in. Possibly your fuel pump is too small ro injectors too small?

If the spark plug turn into white, means that there is not enough fuel. That's according to the mech. But you can refer to this:

Now I'm thinking of overhaul my engine since it gives me a lot of problem recently. I think the piston ring kong already, some (but not much) white smoke coming out, and is time to service the turbine also.

if your fuel pump really kaput, I have a spare Evo 3 pump still in good running condition, pm me if u wanna purchase it.

aih...looks like i'm not the only one with fuel pump problems... :P

if possible get new ones leh...i used to get 2nd hand ones but always i not lucky not more than 6 months kondem already...
emo already...this weekend going to install external ones.
how to know fuel pump kaput ah?

i got one fuel gauge and one a/f meter. everytime i press until near boosting range...0 to 0.1 bar my fuel pressure and my a/f dropped drasticly. when i floor the throttle, the car feels super sluggish like duwan to go..like no fuel going in.
when i cruise normally and wanted to pick up speed, the car jerks.

i had a very embarrasing situation yesterday nite...almost lost to a 1.3 satria because of my fuel pump problems...hahah... :lol:
 
hahaha...most of us using the same engine ma...... :P now very fedup oledi with constant jerking when the turbo kick in.....

last nite smoke by a Ori 4G15 wira..... :(
 
to be safe & if you have the budget, go for brand new fuel pumps. Sard internal pumps now only going for RM450. Evo 3 pumps are rated at 100lph while aftermarket ones like sard starts from 155lph to 280lph, which is more than sufficient.
 
if 155 lph i long time blow engine already... :lol:

yeah man...buy new ones...can love you long time... :lol: :P
 
what kinda monster u have under your hood miton? 155lph also not enough...

for evo3's case it should be more than enough la, considering the original one is only 100lph.

dude... we all have the same problems...
anyway, backfires r normal for evo... this is what i read frm aussie's forum n machanics consult... the ecu thingy made this.. cant really xplain it...

if the fuel pump is 'kaput' that means u'll be experiencing it when its on boost.. a sudden jerk will happened after the '0' mark boost..
if your car is jerking at 6.5k, that means its not abt the fuel pump... if your pump is having these problems, it will not even reach the 6k mark..
leaking with the hose or insufficient supply of fuel is the closest possibility..
r u boosting high bro?
last time its my leaking hose n sparkplugs that causes this thingy.. heh..

380hp monster, no wonder not enough. What kind of fuel pump r u using btw miton? Curious to know what kind of pump is sufficient for 380hp application.
