Take it this way.

Why Wiras/Satria wanna convert to Gallant/Cyborg looks? Some go as far as changing the internals and interior to exact same specs.

Why do locally made Hondas do their damnest to look like the Type R versions? Some go as far as tinting the rear windows ala JDM style.

It's all a matter of opinion and taste. Everyone is entitled to their own. You may make fun of those Jap boys or punks or whatever but seriously did you never follow a fashion trend before when you were young?
Cars are a lot different from human beings wouldn't you say?

Simply put, you can wear what you like, I can laugh at what I like.

Hand on heart, I have never followed any stinking fashion trend, ever. Always worn what I think is most suitable for myself.

So silverfish care to tell me how u define identity? I believe u still wear jeans, bermudas and T-shirts. So u can easiliy be identified. U don't have any identity at all because u are common. Am i right?

So when someone out there practices changes, what make u think they loose their identity?

If kids wanna look Japanese now, whats the big deal. When they reach maturity, u think they still wanna wear flourecent colors?

Its already bad judgement when we categorize people frm what they wear. To add insult to injury, we say they lack identity.

So my big quetion is, HOW do we define identity? Deinitely not from what they wear. B)

Actually I have no problems with what they wear provided it is decent to view.. . I think some of the trends nowadays is for girls to show your butt crack and for guys to wear those baggy pants showing some el cheapo boxer shorts they wear underneath.

The only thing sometimes you cannot stand is locals speaking with a full blown western accent and the BEST part is.. they've never even stepped outside the country!

So... doesn't matter lah... so so .. wassup wassup y'all.. its fun for us to imitate and have a laugh at it... makes our lives merrier. hehehe

Anyway mate, identity here isn't about being easily identified.

Nobody said if you practised change you'd loose your identity.

Nobody said it's a big deal. But I can still laugh at them.

Its the clothes that maketh the man...emmm...something like that.

You lack identity (with regards to this topic) when you can't find your own style and can only follow others.

Man if I don't wear T-Shirt, jeans or bermudas what do you expect me to do? Sew my own clothes?

I don't think I can explain very well what is in my head but the low down is this. Kids, for example, these days want to be grouped. They like to join the crowd. The "coolest" crowd of course. Without being grouped as say "mat rock" or whatever, they don't feel like they belong. Which I think is stupid. You are your own man. Find your own identity. You don't have to be a follower. If you really think that a certain style is so "You" then good for you. You've found it. It's the people who don't have it but just follow that I ridicule.

Side note: I knew I'd step on a lot of toes by writing the shit I did. That's why I did it.

To me, if you want to look like pure Japanese it's ok but within a range, like pants, shoes, watch maybe. Just don't be too Japanese like talking them, walking like them, eating like them even though you know you are not Japanese and you have no Japanese looks, relatives and genes. Most people will laugh at you, including me. Some might even puke.

There is freedom to what you want to wear, just within a limit, not being overated. Be unique, copy pasting dress-up and style completely will give a good laugh to most of us.

Thats my simple conclusion.

My 0.02 cents.

What I'm trying to say is being unique has it's limits and boundaries.

Pheww, I sure have too much free time in hands

i think anyone and everyone get to wear wat they decide lo?
so why bother?
1 man's meat is another man's poison mah....

everyone's thinking, perception and everything maybe different from one another mah?

maybe it's just fashion? maybe it's the latest trend? maybe is the IN thing now?

... plz dont kill me k
agree on this , why must we bother on what other people wear , you guy's asking whats up with those wrist band & unfold collar thing , but you guy's fail to notice that the japanese slippers aka selipar jepun doesnt matter if its tat seng or reef , its has the same style  . many many many people including me wear those kind of slippers to mamaks , sometimes tt , snooker . and i bet you guy's are also wearing those kind of slippers too . but why no one brought up the issue ? ain't that a trend nowdays ? almost every one are wearing that kind of slippers . its self peference , so let them be what they want to be , don't be too narrow minded , cause some malaysian are so narrow minded , which doesn't accept new things in life

vestax, you hit the nail on the head regarding the 2 different groups.

One, wears it because its a trend and they follow.

Two, wears it because it's a preference. Reason being any one or combo of cheap, comfortable, looks good, just like it.

I ain't laughing at group 2. I'm laughing at group 1. Unless someone from group 2 wears Tat Seng slippers to a 5 star restaurant.

Edit: Ooops...forgot another more serious case.

Three, tries very hard to become something they aren't.

It doesn't make sense, u are mixed up in your opinions,

So... doesn't matter lah... so so .. wassup wassup y'all.. its fun for us to imitate and have a laugh at it... makes our lives merrier. hehehe

So do you disagree or not? Or are you practising sarcasm on group one. How about turncoat?

Anyway i believe no one looses identity just from the way they dress. Anyway i do go around and look at people (Not just girls!). You have these bunch of people that dresses n a manner that they can relate to.

If i were a parent, i dun mind my kids dress funny and wacky. So long they are covered. Less can be said at some ladies i see all the time baring the midriff.

Man if I don't wear T-Shirt, jeans or bermudas what do you expect me to do? Sew my own clothes?
You see its easy for me to say u are some groupie, look like somebody. Bermudas and T-shirts........... say isn't that surfer dude some 80's back ago? So can i categorize u looking like american surfer dudes? In fact i see many teenagers with bermuda and T-Shirts all the time. So i say they loose identitiy because they dress like surfer dudes. Not fair right?

Lets not get angry here. I just don't agree people say you loose identity from the way we copy dressing sense.

Last time i remembered my chinese buddy wearing a baju melayu top to work on Friday! Instantly my other colleagues asked him, "you potong ah?". Automatically being labeled a muslim from the way he dress. How about the thousand of football fans who wear jerseys? Are they European wannabes? Can we count how many English and Spanish people in KL?

How about the countless chinese girls that like to wear baju kurung on fridays? How about saying they lost their identity. For sure we are gonna get bashed by their LV hand bags!

I have 2 cousins that do TAILOR their clothes. I saw them during CNY. I ask them is it expensive? They said no and because they can customize. Andway by customizing, they do have some elements of Japanese in them. Chains, untra baggy cuts. Weird t-shirts with even weirder prints. And accesories to put datins out of limelight.

Do they loose identitiy? No they still watch VCD, they still play cards and mahjong and they still talk about getting rich.

If you still insist on Jap style people having no identity, then i rest my case. Maybe them getting the chicks just make u jealous. hehehe.

Anyway a good information with many feedbacks. For the rest of us, these Jap style kids provide some color otherwise to the bland black stuff we see everyday. :)

Thats a long one! Anyway...ahem ahem.

So... doesn't matter lah... so so .. wassup wassup y'all.. its fun for us to imitate and have a laugh at it... makes our lives merrier. hehehe

My exactly is directed at "...laugh at it...". Which is the summary of what I've been saying all along. Sure dress all you want. If it's ridiculous and/or too wannabee'ish, I'm going to laugh at it.

I've said all I can say which can be used as a response to your examples before this. So I'm not going to repeat it. It's all there.

And yes I am jealous of them getting all the chicks  So angry!!!

Finally I agree with you on the last bit. Yup the colour up the blandness. And I can laugh at them.

Don't think so. Some people still not getting it I think.

But nvm lah. Used to it in here. Have to put it in black and white baru people will understand one. Even if you write 2 full pages of analogies, examples and theories still got people don't get it one. Maybe I'm just useless when it comes to presenting my thoughts.
