Finally got my HU replaced. Got myself ALPINE-9846-E. Its a basic unit with classic interface, much better punch & richer sound compared to my previous Clarion DRB-3675 (lacks in treble sound richness). Both has the same 45Wx4 Power.
According to the shop, Pioneer-DEH-4850 is behind Alpine in terms of sound richness but excellent in reading pasar malam CDs. Anywez, price difference was RM20 between the 2 brands.
Take note that my ALPINE unit was made in Thailand...

Ace, u were right. To pound up more sound richness and depth, the normal speakers won't be able to do the job. But the HU is important to drive the raw sound...
I kinda happy able to get slightly more out of my current speakers. Next project expand but my HU is limited to single RCA out only. Probably can improved the back speakers. Any recommedations on brands (amps, speakers) for me to research and drool over it.... :shades_smile:

Single RCA out is no problem. Once you got a nice pre-amp you were able to expand into multiple rca out already. The main job of the player should be able to delivery clean strong single. The rest is up to what you have for your amp and speakers.

BS, no need to change speakers if you are satisfied with the SQ.
Daniel, I muz say I am very satisfied with the HU. It can have separate Bass & Treble control for Radio & CD/MP3. Though I am setting the Bass & Treble to almost max, the SQ is much better than my old Clarion unit (but don't expect tremendous improvements from the standard speakers lar....). It has EQ equivalent settings but still don't how to control them. Now setting Bass & Treble across all levels.

Any preamp is suitable as long as it is made up of good quality. AudioControl, Rodek or Critical Mass are good ones. first are for more on mid vocal, Rodek (higher range) is for clarity, third one is more on strictly vocal only.

that one is not really recommended as my friend has one. You need like 5 mins to warm up the tube and you have to be really like those vocal audiophile singer to enjoy this preamp.
Also, the price is quite a killer, cost like RM1500 and above. I would say a bit steep for the price. Price range on RM600-RM1000 would get you a very good preamp already. Pls bear in mind that to really enjoy these good preamp you really need a very good speakers to get those signal out.
So it is up to your own taste of listening which kind of music.

Yeap, I don like the vocal, I like more on bass & treble, more on music not vocal. yaloh, it's say very clear singer sound, but the look is very nice to me.
Haha, my speaker is more than 10 years liau, I think is about 15 years, haha... still working. My amp change about 5 times liau, all burn up. My woofer no more, last about 7-8 years, change the side round many times till I do it the last 3 times. Now only I know the cheapoh amp can last, now I'm using my friend's accord ori amp, very small but can last, maybe b'coz no woofer

You misunderstood the RCA funcion liao. You still able to drive all speaker be it with or witout poweramp. You player has 4 outlet for the speakers mah. If you intend to get an amp. Then a 4 ch will be able to power all speakers with just a single RCA input to the amp mah. The amp itself has 4 outlet for all the speakers. Of course with a preamp in between will be much much nicer that the player SQ settings.
