How To Read Boost Meter

Hi guys ...
can anyone here teach me how to read boost from the boost meter. :D
i dunno how la. as i search all over the net ... theres no "how to read boost meter for dummies" book.

and another one how to control those boost meter / how to set it up. like for example how im going to set it up 0.7 to 0.8
hope u guys can help me here and im sure theres still alot of our fren out there want to learn it also.

the needle will be at 0 when ur engine is off...boost will be on -ve side when u start ur engine...then when u rev up, ur boost will increase as the effect of the exhaust gases turning the turbine..

0.7-0.8bar is quite standard boost...no need to adjust anything...u cant control the boost meter...but u can control ur boost...the meter will give a readout on what boost is being achieved...boost controller (manual or electronic) can be used to set ur boost at a certain level...manual boost controllers r not so accurate and tend to 'run' after some time...so u will need to re-adjust the controller every now n then...electronic boost controllers r somewhat more sophisticated...like the apex'i avcr...u can set predetermined boosts at different rpm...very good stuff....

the needle when start is at the -ve side?? then how should i know im running in how many bar? by not revving the car ... can i know the exact bar that im using now?? how ahh still cannot understand with how to read a proper bar. <_<

what is appropriate/healthy reading when yr car is idle i.e., -ve side (vacuum)...

I've seen 3 GSR's (4G93T) with -0.5bar at idle. I think that should be normal.

wildboar ... the needle when start is at the -ve side?? then how should i know im running in how many bar? by not revving the car ... can i know the exact bar that im using now?? how ahh still cannot understand with how to read a proper bar. b][/quote] standard boost for most mitsu turbo engines r around 0.7-0.8bar lo...wanna find out wat boost the engine is running?? just go tarik here n there and look at ur boost meter....typically when u drive off from stationary...ur boost will slowly increase as ur rpm goes up...then if u floor the pedal, within a short while ur boost will jump up to max level n stay there..dats when u can read ur boost...when u step off the accelerator, the boost will go down bcos ur boost is released via BOV... when idle the needle wudbe sumwhere around -0.5 to -0.7bar... i think la...but it also depends on wat engine type...or wat turbo u r using...

when on idle my boost meter reads -0.3 , when i on the aircond it will read -0.4

seems like different ppl get different readings...if i remember correctly, my frens 61t got -0.5bar and another frens gsr abt -0.6 to -0.7bar...

ohh means that the only way that i can know how many boost using now is by flooring the paddle and see the maximum boost that it go la. i tot when we start the engine we can know the exact bar already.
bcos when i start the engine ... the bar is aroun -0.7 to -0.8 i tot that is my exact bar lar.

while how i want to know when is the boost will come out?? after the 0 is it?? means that if im flooring the paddle after the 0 ican feel the boost coming out right.

flooring the pedal to the max won't generate the boost , it will show up to 0 only . u`ll need to load the engine by driving it , then u`ll get the readings .

do it on 5th gear , slam the throttle then check the boost meter for the readings .
14.7 psi = 1bar

No monies also but will definitely upgrade when the time come to Defi or HKS Chrono..damn syok man.... :P Right now using HKS mechanical one.... :P

sorry to interupt..but u can get a second hand blitz dtt -dual trbo timer..it has the function of turbo timer(auto/manual) and a digital boost meter..i am using one of it..i must say that im happy with it coz i get an accurate reading like mine now is 1.28 is the highest(i think shud be lower but since my clutch slips,the power isnt stable)....i got it for rm200.

u can check how many bar u running with boost gauge also.

get those electronic ones like defy u can reply your peak and bla bla so thats ur max boost....


basically if its below 0 then ur engine is in vacumm and if its more than 0 meaning u have positive pressure meaning the boost is in

A bit out of topic....

Just want to find out whether is that normal for a stock 4G63T (E2) boost around 0.1-0.5 bar? As far as I know, the standard boost for the E2,3 is around 0.8-0.9 bar (correct me if I'm wrong). I'm still using the mitsubishi boost meter cames with the halfcut. Could it be the meter is not accurate or somewhere is leaking? :(
