Graphics cards

Can't seem to find a thread on graphics card. So here goes.

I'm planning to change my 64MB graphics card to a 256MB (at least) one. Budget isn't all that much so I'm willing to pay up to about RM400 for a card but it's got to really perform good enough. Meaning, when I play games, it shouldn't jerk or refresh noticeably. The graphics should be smooth.

I'm using a MSI KT6V mother board with AMD Sempron 2200+ at 1.5 Ghz. I have 512MB RAM.

Anybody has experience with graphics cards? Or maybe y'all can share about your own graphics cards?

graphic card d best 1 is ATi....... serious lo...
right now im using 128mb still can play game no jerk...
if u really 1 a keng chau graphic card go for ATi 9550 series... 256mb 1

If u need latest ATi graphic card... recommend below some model... (price maybe diff but it's around this price..)

HIS 9600XT 256MB (AGP) RM395 - last generation... good for directx 9 game
HIS X1300 256MB (AGP) RM400 - ATi new generation entry level model
GECUBE x1300 256MB (AGP) RM400

If nvidia... AGP model and "smooth" one all around RM500.. out of ur budget liao.. below is some model..

AOpen Nvidia 6600GT 128MB(AGP) DDR3 RM530
Winfast Nvidia A6600GT 128MB(AGP) RM530

And, if can better update ur memory to 1G... change processor to Athlon XP or XP Barton... try some second hand website.... maybe u can get low price...

Whoa, good stuff there. Will definitely take into consideration your suggestions. I didn't realize that ATI has droppped it's prices already. Last time, ATI used to be more expensive than Nvidia. I take it that you're one of those guys who likes to follow those IT stuff and read up reviews, yeah? I used to buy lots of local PC magazines, like PC World Malaysia and stuff but stop already. hehe

That's what I thought too. ATI seems to have gained a name in powerful graphics cards. :)

satria95 , its all about what type of games u play .

let say some ppl is all about MMPORG / dota / cs which dosent need that much of a high performing card and the opposite if ur playing those new games .

additionally , sufficient ram to support ur applications running , ie shitloads of firewall/antivirus , download software etc . in other words proper balance .

I usually play 3d games like NFS Underground and stuff like that. My current graphics card is an Elsa Gladiac 517, 64MB GF4. Crap, huh? hahaha I have to lower down so many graphic details to play NFS Underground 2 and sometimes, it jerks cos it seems to be loading up the graphics. Will upgrade another 512MB ram to 1GB and probably change graphics card a bit later la. hehe

sat_95, all u need now is a moderate graphic card (supports DX9) + another 512mb rams

then your cars in NFSU or NFS:MW would b like racing on the road, swift n smooth exp.............

i would recommend u to chcange the GC 1st tho, imagine GC = cake, Xtra RAMs = icing, catch my drift? heheh

i bet prices can b lower if u lurk around LowYat.net those guys there somtimes get gd i mean realllli good offers when sold in bulks (warrantied of coz)

Yeah, I get your drift, though I've never even been in a drifting car yet... :( I've looked around and since I'm on AGP, choices aren't all that much. I know for AGP, there's even the RM700+ range but most of them is PCI-E. N doubt AGP is good but it doesn't have as much expandability as PCI-E where I can add on another card later if needs be. And if I go the pic-e way, I'd have to change mother board. If I change mother board, I might as well get a better processor also. hahahaha I'll most likely go for AGP and not bother about upgrading la. haha

buy XFX 7950GX2 graphic cards la.cost RM25XX.if u can spend so much money 2 modify cars so keng gile2,i m sure the most powerful graphic cards wont b a problem 4 u either.hahaha.oh n if u consider that,make sure u change the whole PC processor,motherboard,power supply n 2GB ram.

7300GT - low range
7600GT - mid range

dude, I don't even have money to replace my clutch pump which costs RM200+ leh. haha That's why my graphic card, mother board and processor upgrade has been put on hold for more than a year already. hehe But I'm still keeping my options open hehe

i think i also need to upgrade my graphic card la...
cuz dunno why nowadays suddenlt my come d monitor turn to black...
n then few seconds liaw all d graphics appear back but colour all run outs...
n some icon cant even display properly... what appear is some text saying that my ati bla bla cant function well... bla bla.. need to restart com in order to back to normal... WTF!!! its ok la but it happen few times de... got twice lagi teruk!!! fade to black then nvr show up again!!! still can hear d sound of d music im playing but cant view anything... gotta use keyboard alt + F4 then rigth twice then enter to restart!!! really pokkai la... sometimes my haldway done assignment all gone!!! any1 experience such thing before??? graphic card problem ka??? since d day i bought till now also nothing happen only recently this stupid weird thing happen... bought in 2004 april

ur GPU(nVidia) or VPU(ATI) overheat... try check graphic card DC fan still function or not.... and clean up ur grahic card / Casing...

its should be faulty PSU since u say u even lost data...
as kaputed psu may supply power with sudden spike
