Front End / Area Problem

Whenever I go through selected speed bumps (reasonably big / high and/or pointed ones), there will be "brushing" sound coming from the front area. I doubt it is my bumper that's producing the noise because the sound appears when the car is reaching the high point (top area of the speed bump when the suspensions and absorbers are compressed) and also when the car is decending (right after the top area of the speed bump when the suspensions and absorbers stretched). I've spoken to the service centre personnel to check on the absorbers and suspensions but they said they couldn't find anything wrong. I do not intend to bring out to other workshop since the car is still under warranty and I have not done any modifications to the car.

Any idea what or where went wrong?

Are you sure its coming from the front?, as sound can bounce around the cabin.

Look under your ride, see where has scuff marks..that is probably where its scraping on the humps.

Could be your mud flaps, side skirts.. since you didnt mention its a loud metal scrappin', that would be painful.

I also hope your not driving over the humps too fast:driver:

Hey,

Thanks for your reply. I am sure it's coming from the front area and I doubt it's scrapping the mud flaps, side skirts and etc. It's hard to describe the sound (and I'm really bad at it) but if I would describe them, the sound closely resembles to one rubbing his/her fingers on a squeaky clean bonnet back and forth. The sound does not resembles to dragging (metal / plastic) because that would produce a flat harsh tone.

On the other hand, here's an example of the sound (youtube link). Mine is not as severe as his, just happens when going up and down a speed bump.

How old is your car? You should focus on checking the bushing, ball joints...

Hi YYC,

My car is just over 14 months old. Thanks for the suggestions. Gonna list them down and present them to the service centre folks.

Hi kazukimy,

It is Myvi 1.3 (the latest one but not really the latest one since it's already 14 months old).

Are you able to simulate the noise at any speed or when braking or when you go over the bumps at high speed? Etc.

Can you describe the process please.

look carefully for the grased part of the absorbers. then u will identify the problem.

Normally, the sound will appear when I'm going up and down a speed bump. However, that said, not all speed bumps will have similar effect. Only those high, sharp ones will produce the sound.

OK. Thanks!

It's possible it's the absorber mountings itself that's damaged. Since it's under warranty complain and force them to change everything.

maybe the tires grased the 'daun pisang' aka inner mudguard fenders. do check it too.

So... according to the service personnel, it is due to the rubber contacts at the mounting or something like that. Unless it happens frequently even over small speed bumps, they said that it's normal that the sound appears when I go through a sharp, high speed bump. :hmmmm:

It's not normal la. Go to another center and complain if that center doesn't do anything. Worst case scenario complain online on their perodua site. These folks actually take complaints very seriously.

And it does sound like a absorber mounting issue.

All these funny and weird things can only be found in locally made cars?
No idea. Maybe mine is just one of the few rare cases.

Yea. I felt weird too especially when the service personnel said that this would happen to most cars. I didn't want to argue with them as I was in hurry. Maybe they are treating mine as small issue as the sound isn't that obvious unless you hear it carefully.

I made a complaint on their FB Page yesterday and they have replied this morning. I am now waiting for their reply.

:adore:

What?!, your car burnt to a crisp?.. THATS NORMAL LARR..:stupid:

You should go back there, this time with a mic/cam to record the conversation

Or perhaps the absorbers are worn out, leaked....
