Hello fellow honda drivers,

We all know that with the stock cooling system of the SOHC EG's, they tend to heat up easily.

Now even i have changed thge radiator to the twin fin (EG6) and new pipings plus a water pump, it still seems to overheat. My best bet would be a leak in the head gasket.

Where can i get this done in JB? I would appreciate any info you guys/gals share with me. Coz till date i still cant trust local SG workshops......
The only one i went to is in Masai area (hope i spelled it correctly)

Roughly what is the pricing like to replace head gasket?

Thanks for all your valuable info.

Best Regards

your fan ok ka bro ? (cos u didn't mention about it) ... and no...the stock SOHC cooling system do not tend to overheat easily.....

tell us your overheating symptoms la bro....e.g when and how it usually happens....

Hello bro, fan is ok everything else seems pretty ok
Just that when i idle for about 15 - 20 mins...the temp will rise up to around 3/4 Afterwhich if i drive again, the temp will drop down again to normal.
Once that happens, i have to top up ALOT of water.
Hope that helps you on the problems i am facing
Thanks again~

if u have cooked the headgasket, and a brand new water pump u should have more water in the reservoir and radiator. but since ure losing heaps of water, it could still be the water pump.

just my 11cents

So in this case, even though my head gasket is fried, changing to a new water pump will solve the problem since there is more water? But won't that leak in the head gasket cause water to evaporate or still cause overheating?

Do enlighten me as I really am not technically inclined.
Thanks for all of your information.

since your gasket is fried

- chg the gasket
- use water instead of coolant , temporarily
- dont forget to BLEED the system (air bubbles is bad)
- use original/stock radiator cap
- chk the fan see if its still running

hope this helps

- tml i will be going down to HV to change the gasket
- its all filled with water now
- is bubbles caused due to a fried head gasket? I have tried bleeding it but there are always bubbles.
- im on stock radiator cap rated at 1.1bar
- fan is running but the temp will still increase due to the longer duration of idle

What is the engine's main prob so far until this point of explanation?
Replace gasket and skim head?

I have called Ah Hua already and he says roughly RM700++ is that the right price? Thats quite alot for a gasket n a skim....

Regards

hopefully u dun have to skim the head due to this matter. sometimes early stages might not warp the head completely. unless u keep driving it and force it to overheat badly and warped the head.

well change the headgasket and see how from here. u should have check the headgasket during the water pump change.

goodluck

Hi Bro,

Yep hopefully i do not have to skim the head due to warp.
But basically thats what they will do as well once the head is open just to make sure..if its really a minor warp, i guess it would be cheap....coz there are no major water loss unless im stuck in the jam for like 30 - 60 mins...... then it will be quite dry....

I will also make sure to change the water pump as well. Just a short note, can i change to a twin cam EG6/9 water pump? Are they different from the SOHC's?

What else can i do to improve daily driving? Im not looking for a super fast car but a reasonable one with abit of power.
Throttlebody? Injectors? EG6/9 ECU?
Im running totally stock now with just a VAFC1 which is street tuned.
Everything else is stock which im quite sad about it...... :(
Thanks for your info...
Regards

When my B16A headgasket warped, the engine would overheat to the point that the water from my radiator would be forced back in my reservoir tank and spill (can hear and see the water boiling in my reservoir tank) .....

HI Crower75,

When that incident happened, were u revving till vtec kick in or normal cruising?

last time mine have to skim the head, grind valve and change the water pump.
is it because of the head been skimmed my car got lost a power?

some things are compatible and replaceble and some are not. i suggest you stick to your own part number for easy bolt on and usage.

modding topics has been covered many times. try the [search] button on honda section.

radiator ok....
hoses ok...
