DIY Voltage Stabilizer

ghwong.. u got PM :)

it is strange.. just now i post something here... but seems lost already.. i think zth server prob...nvm i type again.

wat i wanto say it... voltage regulator and voltage stabilizer is 2 different thing... voltage regulator is to regulate the voltage.. meaning keeping the voltage in a range.. eg from 11.5V to 14.4V.. just like our computer AVR(automatic voltage regulator)
voltage stabilizer is to stabilze voltage no matter at wat voltage values..

wat noise from radio?? u mean FM reception noise? or aeroplane noise?? FM noise u check de antenna connection or else ur HU have a weak revceiver. If aeroplane noise.. ur HU or amp do not have sufficient grounding...

VS may not help is FM reception noise.... n i think it may help to reduce aeroplane noise.. but not totally elliminate it...

thanks for the PM both votech n khguan.

For the noise that i mean is the noise generated by wiper motor, distributor n etc, while listening to radio/cassette or cd i can hear the humming sound. I suppress the sound by adding condensor to regulator part, wiper, distributor and do some small grounding to it to remove the sound.
I just wonder if i install the VS would it stop the noise with out the condensor i installed, coz VS is in actual a big capacitor rite?

i think u better check ur HU grounding 1st b4 adding those caps to those parts u mentioned...

"VS is a big capacitor" : this statement is half right. Yes it is sort of a big cap... but inside it, it is made out of many smaller caps with different values combination in order to cope up with difference frequencies of voltage fluctuations. So it is different from a single big cap.

some japan website -voltage stabilizer.

mine 1 as follows:
6800uf x 2
4700UF X 2
1200UF X 4
2200UF X 4
470 UF X 6
330 UF X 6
220 UF X 6
10awg cable
Relay
30A Fuse

dude... ur VS dun need a 30A fuse.. 10A wil do..

i dun think 30A fuse will protect ur VS or ur car during a short circuit... cos de fuse is not doing its job..

easylife............nice web u got there! n tat hot mama! wakakakakaka.............the ic actually use for the led onlykah!?

ufo, no shorting, not even installed in the car yet. Tested with a 12V batt. Worked for a while.. then...

Removed faulty caps (2 caps) and a tested by multimeter show its shorted when by right it should hv opened the circuit. An x-file... Fuse oso did not blow to protect the circuit... sigh. Anyone got some answers to my x-file?

votech, u did a water spray test? Waterproof casing is it?

xcmeo, check out this page, got picture of us doing the test using a high pressure fire hose to test our product.

i think ur workmanship is not good enough... some points mayb not soldered properly or connected properly... and some human errors... (oversoldered/overheat, foreign objects such as solder ball n component legs, etc)

i have made so many VS n not any of them got prob... my advice is always check ur ur work b4 doing any testing.....

khguan, for sure my workmanship not good la... but my question here is why the caps are shorted when its faulty? Shouldn't it 'disconnected' (cause an open circuit) or blow up (pregnant caps like some diyers reported in the earlier pages). The two faulty caps I removed fr the circuit board, looks fine, not bloated, no burnt marks but shorted (connected).

votech, good pics... is that you holding the fire hose?

hahaha...yeah...that's how i have to wash my car and engine bay without proper car wash facility provided at the place where i stayed...

caps shorted when faulty?? i duno bout dat wor... mayb de dielectric materials inside melted n made a closed circuit.. who knows? u measure the cap resistance or cut open de cap n c u know lor...

Hey to all forumers out there...
i m new to this thread, but i read almost every pages of this thread.
Now I am thinking of building my own VS also. but b4 tat I would like to know the price for the VS by khguan and also votech, can plz PM me, if the price is resonable I think I will just buy rather than building it. Very lazy. :p

Ok about the after long reading of this thread I find out that the voltage stabilizer is ti stabilizer the over all voltage. Does this means all those capacitor/condensor we use to suppress noise from distributor, wiper, regulater, ignition coils and etc can be taken out? Does any one of u feel any noise from ur radio or anything when you use wiper/mist ur windscreen?

After looking at the VS that those jap guys do i feel tat it might also work. After all the design look much like a capacitor structure. Where we are actually using the cable's insulator an air as the electrolit in capacitor. So if u calc the capacitance of that it is a capasitor.. i think i will be some. I didn't calc it coz i forgotten the formula. Did any one try this? Does it work?

About voltage stabilizer circuit tat one of u forumers submited, after looking at it, I find out that tat is the actual regulator circuit tat a common car is using. That circuit is actually a chip based regulator circuit where old car last time use mechanical regulator that stabilize and prevent overcharging. Regulator actually also act as a stabilize but not effective. We still have battery tat can stabilize but battery i actually like a huge capacitance capacitor tat talk longer time to charge n release so it is not effective as stabilizer.

This is from wat i think, i might be wrong. So feel free to correct me. Bt after looking at the feedback of so many of the forumers there i would wan to install it also. So votech n khguan please quote me a price for the VS and gk. I m using a toyota KE70. very old car.
Good day for all forumers there.. ;)

welcum GHwong :)

xcmeo... its hard to tell frm here, mayb u would like to gif us a clear picture of how u diy ur VS? eg: ur circuitary etc
