ok.. finally got a desktop.....

itz a dell... p4 2.8ghz with 768mb ram .... 80gb hdd.. but display card is the onboard intel display adapter... which i doubt is sufficient for gaming purposes..

so.. since i've sorta left the gaming industri for years.... so i totally lost track of gaming stuffs... how ironic for an IT person.. malu..

anyway.. what display card would u guys recommend? budget? erm... letz say not more than 500 buckz.

thankz!

save a bit more and get a 9800pro .. wahhahahaha :P

curious to know, does the motherboard come with an AGP slot?

if it was rm100-+ around rm500, you're eligible for an nividia geforce fx5700 series, ati 9600pro and ati 9600xt, depending on the brand/manufacturer.

AGP slot sure hav 1 mar.. not mer? unless its a really small board.. but i nvr c a board without AGP slot la. hehe.. get ati 9600xt... better than pro i remember

yea.. i was thinking of the nvidia ... 100+

see la.. time to go shopping.. kekekeke

ati 9500pro, cheaper then rm500 for a new 1 with 8 pipeline, support till directx 8 only, can let 9600xt eat dust, but no directx9 eye candylor

Julian,

Get ATI 9600PRO - value for money!

Or if you like me (damn poor), use GeForce4 440MX (built-into mobo).

slotting in an AGP 8X card into a slower AGP slot might just burn the slot and card

newer AGP 8X standard slots don't have problems with slower AGP cards but the first batch of mobo's fried any card which wasn't at least AGP 4X :P

I'm using Epox 8RGM3i with nForce2 chipset for AMD processors.

Has 2 built-in display ports + 1 AGP port.

Hhmm, new project... maybe use my old WinFast GeForce2 MX DualHead (2 display port) + on-board display for total of 4 monitors! Hahaha!

sure boh? from what i've read through a manual(installing 8x to 4x slot), slotting an 8x AGP card into a 4x, will just operate at 4x. ah oh well, it could be wrong...

geforce2 ah? whoah man, you should check out the graphics running nfsu2 on that thing, ahahaha...

yeah yeah, back in 2002 when they first back out and i was working for SERVEX alot of pc technicians didn't read and just install and test, boom! send back to us to claim, hehe, but kenot claim they never read warning.

nowadays no problems liao i heard they got voltage auto adjusters :P

once the AGP slot is being use the on-board video will be automatically turned off.
don't think there is even an option to turn it back on in most mobo's :P

LOL those are the two games on my pc only at the moment
Great minds think alike ;)

i would suggest getting the Radeon 9550 extreme version. can play half life 2, doom 3 all at medium settings. tried hl2 with max settings, lagged a little.

this card will replace the 9600 series soon

whoa?

ATI Radeon ? ---> a lot of compatible issues when playing new games. Must update the driver first, then DX9c. Sometimes, have to check with the game developer website before complaining. Normally the developer has special update / patch for the games. At certain 3D games ATI Rules, but basic 2D application like PhotoShop they tend to cough (source : www.tomshardware.com)

For compatibility and also stability issue - u need to check out newer graphic cards. Slotting in 8x AGP compliance AGP Graphic card will not burn nothing. (it's a myth)

So the best bang for your buck would be FX5200 -128mb DDR series - at least u can play NFS: UG2 with 800x600 full setting. Would cost you somwhere RM210-230 depends on model (15-12-2004 pricing source: Sri Computer)

And as always most would forget the RAM issue. Get another 512MB (if u;re using XP or Win2K). It would cost you about RM290-310.

Hence, RM210+310 =520 ---> best bang for your RM. Worth every single penny u spend.

I'm using Professional 3D display card for Workstation. It cost more than my PC it self. RM4100.00 (Nvidia Quadro FX1100) http://www.nvidia.com/page/qfx_mr.html

The graphic at 1024 x 768 @ highest details in NFS UG2 ---> WOW, im speechless.

wow.. thatz one big figure.... can buy xbox and ps2 with more loads of gadgets... my budget aint tat much lerr..

i was with an ASUS mobo distributor circa 2002/03 alot of mobo's came back to claim warranty after the 8x slot got burnt.

its not burnt with a big black hole means almost no physical damage but the slot is dead.

ASUS ? Whoa --- never come accross so far. Thousand of system i hand delivered. So far so good.

Burnt --more towards the graphic card problem rather that motherboard. Like that rugi lar the owner.

Ever heard of the new PCI Express x16 slot vs AGP? Its farking fast...

i'm using an x700pro OCed on a PCI express... read from reviews, as if, no difference at all.

well probably, the technology isn't that mature yet.
