You can go UOB, provided their terms and conditions no changes. My friend did his to enjoy the discount privillege at clubs and shoppings. He told me, he only brought RM 50 to get the credit card. That was 2 years back. <_<

menghua84,
From my own experience and just sharing a personal opinion, you should not even get a credit card even when you are already working. The way I see credit card is like having a seriously close temptation in your wallet. Once you start using it, it may and will be hard to stop using it. From there, your debts may and will slowly increase and then you'll feel the financial tightness of paying those debts. My personal advice to you is to spend within your own limits. If you can't afford something, plan carefully and save up cash and buy the item with cash. I have heard many, seriously MANY people say that they will be able to control and plan their spending. After a few months, or about 1 year, they'll say, "sigh... lots of credit card debts to pay. No money."
Now, of course, I have also met a few, just a few, who has had credit cards for a while now but still have no debts with the credit cards. However much they use the credit card, they will pay the ENTIRE amount at the end of the month or the beginning of the following month.
Wish you the best wisdom in planning and making your decision. :)

just like my dad, he only pays using credit card when he doesnt have enough cash.

He believes that credit cars are for emergency purposes, not as a alternative for cold hard cash.

last time, we bought a iBook with cash

I doubt so that a student will have success in obtaining a credit card, at least from my understanding. I figured that the minimum they need is 3 months of pay slip to prove that you're working and receiving some form of salary.
As for online payment, it's really risky. Some stories that I've heard about fraud cases is that the bank takes God-only-knows-how-long to reverse the charges back to the customers. Even I myself had it once. I went to a website and I did not click on the "submit payment" but it was submitted somehow. When I called the bank 2 days later, the bank said they can't do anything as the charges has been paid out. Personally, I don't think you would want to go through the kind of hassle and time to report a fraud or dispute case mainly because it'll be troublesome and a real waste of precious time.
Just sharing my opinion. :)
