Hello Folks.. :D

Recently did a conversion to GSR + TD05H twin fin. After run-in tested car and boost was as high as 1.3bar?? :blink: Just wondering if this is normal. FYI, boost controller is totally off, now its a very expensive boost gauge onli

First car was jerking and after change plugs and tune SAFC ok.. but still I get high boost on normal runs around 0.9 to 1bar... tot that stock boost for actuator to open is 0.8bar for the TD05?

I'm convinced that there are some leaks somewhere or the actuator is stuck... any comments and feedback appreciated. Just wanted to know the stock boost for such conversions and should it be so high with the boost controller off?

In theory your boost should now be lower because the turbo doesn't have to work as hard to displace the same mass of air. Maybe your wastegate just isn't opening?
 
Wat kind of boost controller are you using? the aquarium kit or electronic one? You say that the boost controller is switch off,hmmmm
could be the boost controller's problem and maybe the actuator is faulty....the boost seems to be spiking.....go and ask your mechanic who did this man
 
Yes, boost is spiking...

Prime Suspect is the actuator or there is a leak somewhere ... I'm using a Blitz DSBC it was working fine with my old turbo... I will test the actuator later and take it easy for a while until I get this fixed...

heya alucard, could i know @ what rpm does boost kick in, and max boost too?
 
Urm .. boost kicks in around 3k rpm all the way until cut at 180kph. Dunno if this is high maybe coz I'm using E3 IC.

Max boost? I know of one guy boosting at 1.5 - 1.6bar with the TD05 but he got management lah :rolleyes: and is external wastegated

Daryl, actually with the GSR I reckon that the boost could be higher since its a 1.8 with smaller bore, stroke, cc etc etc ... the boost builds and fills up the engine faster, hence could be higher. Not too sure about this.. :huh: anyone with similar mods and what is your stock boost after conversion to TD05 or a bigger siput?

U might wanna take a look at the Air fuel ratio.

Overboosting could also be due to the hi exhaust temeprature pressure as a result of incorrect Air fuel ratio.

As Darryl mentioned, first check out the wastegate device and it's vacumn signals. It could be a faulty diaphram or acutator valve or a maybe leaking hose.
 
1.3 bar boost is quite high man! Better go check out whats the problem first before you overboost more man......By the way, how's the feeling like boosting the TD05H at 1.3 bar on a GSR ah? like Evo or not ah? hehehehhe....just curious..

just wanted to know whatas yer hp reading on the dyno. Is your TD05 a small 16G or big 16G yar. Just curious. I'm running a small 16G on my Gsr too
 
thx alucard. 3k rpm with a td05 and evo ic? wah not that much lag compared to td04 + vr4 then, cause mine comes in only a lil sooner
 
1.3bar is like having a one-nite stand without the condom on!! Any slips and you're screwed :ph34r:

dolly, No dyno for me yet until I sort out the boost problems... however, since the TD05 is different from the TD04 mating it with its original IC will cause less lag but sill the disadvantege here is the smaller cc of the engine..

ave, my TD05 is from the E2 is this small or big?! What is your stock boost readings?

Joeker bro, Af looks ok EGT also ok but then I didn't do dyno so not that accurate to rely on my gauges... feel like going to T@p#-R and buy a 5yr old gauge for 400 bucks as a sacrifice to the turbo gods. :D

VR4, Evo 1,2 are all the same = small 16G
only the evo 3 is a bug 16G

So did u dyno yet?
 
hey AlucarD,i've been contemplating on this idea myself too,was thinking of changing my gsr turbine into TD05 twin fin too.
my question is,wat other mods do i need?bigger cc injector?bigger fuel pump?i already have an safc to control fueling.
last question,roughly how much will all these cost?how much is the TD05 twin fin turbine?and also injectors and fuel pumps?

td05 twin fin (small) - +/- RM1300 (2ndhand)
td05 16G - RM1500(2nd hand)/ RM1900 (new) with warranty
510cc injectors - RM450
RX7 Fuel Pump - RM150

You'd be looking at close to 3k including installation.

td05 twin fin and td05 16G different one ah?td05 16G is from evo is it?which one has better performance?
 
u can read the pined up link on top by vestax for more info. 16g has 2 versions ie. small (vr4 rs, evo 1, evo 2) and big (evo 3). Big 16g performs the best.

If u intend to get big 16g, no point getting 2nd hand coz the price difference is so small and you have no idea whether it is leaking, needs service etc. Better to get a brand new one from garett the long term cost will be less since u are guaranteed that it will run at 100% efficiency.

I bought mine roughly a month ago.

Small 16G from from evo complete with manifold for RM 900 other prices were around 1000max. Where else yes the big 16G would be a better choice but very hard to find. ive been trying to find it for more than2 months already. However recently there is one guy with ample big 16G selling for RM1100 confirm.

Alurcard, u can go for vr4 injectors which are 450cc injectors which are much much more than needed unless u intend to boost more than 1.4 bar.

Im running a small 16G on my gsr with 450cc injectors and S-afc. Leaning out to the max. starting with -5 towards -9 at the end of my rpms. My fuel pump is stock gsr, but im running with a FSE fuel regulator. Dynoed my car very recently at 0.9 Bar at 210 at the wheels and 1Bar at 220 at the wheels. Torque is around 29.5Kg for 1bar.

The total cost which consist of my turbine is as follow

Turbine - rm900
workmanship plus porting - rm450
injectors - rm200

which in total is around rm 1550.

ave, you've got a good deal. The halfcut shop I went to wanted RM1.5k non negotiable, because he knows it is not easy to find it anymore.
