Anyone could give me advise on black top and silver top? wats the diff bt both of them, price range and everythin regarding this two engine.... askin for fren

The only time a Silvertop can get 160bHP and Blacktop 165bHP is when u stuffs them with a pair of 272/9mm cams, 4-1 Headers, 0.8mm Headgasket, Reprogrammable ECU, Race Spec Ignition systems, Race Spec Exhaust systems...etc. If no mods.....well expect to have only 120-125bHP for Silver and 128-135bHP for the Blackies.....Welcome to the real world!
 
wandy, how about the power at the crankshaft? or those engine dyno that just measure the power of the engine alone?

btw i think fuel we use have a big impact on the power too. just watched fifth gear episode 6 not long ago, japan regulated 280ps imprezza, got 250+bhp on shell optimax ron98 petrol, 240bhp+ on BP ultimate or something ron97 petrol, and cap ayam ron95 petrol from supermarket gives only 230bhp+

so what i think is, why even the most popular bill sherwood and alot of other forum only claims that 20v on an engine dyno gives 145-150hp is because non of them (i think) have 100 octane fuel that the 20v is suppose to run on, thus the ecu will change the ingition timing (i think) so there won't be knocking or pinging but at the same time lose some power. so 160hp svt and 165hp bt would only apply to japan's soil :D
 
The original figures released by Toyota (160 and 165) are actually in PS measurement - done on Prototype engines in lab condition with no load (No Flywheel, No Power Steering, No Aircond Compressor), RON100 Fuels and calculated at the Crank. By official standard Japanese PS reading is a few Point Higher that International HP.

And yes, if you pour in RON100 into those motors you can get as high as 140WHP because 20V systems are designed to optimize (auto advancement of Ignition) on High RON fuels.

i'm driving ee90 standard. planning to convert my engine. i'm confused either to choose silvertop engine or black top. thinking just wan to use stand without modification but will i get a good result in performance? some said black top is better. how bout the maintenance, tear & wear? roughly how much it will cost totally for silvertop or balcktop? recommended mech that can do it well and JPJ apporoval...thanks guys...sorry kylim8 bcoz interupt into ur thread...

no worries mate, we're on the same 'boat' lookin for more info on this blackies.. LoL, anyone know around how much is this monster? I'm drivin a stock AE111 anyway

You won't go wrong with AE111 half cut. it mean 20V blacktop engine. I'm using the same car chasis with you and I've tried both of these engine. There are alot more you have to do to the car in order to achieve the "peformance".
 
yup...handling n driving skills...all play a certain role in handling the car...:D :D

160 and 165 are PS? i thought if count in PS its 165 and 170 *blur*

IMHO stock no mod best go with BT ler.. engine newer, and lighter and balanced internal compare to SVT. words had been flying around saying blacktop's being abit less durable compare to SVT, but if no modification.. i don't think toyota will engineered an engine that will blow up on stock setup right? :D
 
like these la.me don want mod eng kaw-kaw..as long my eng sihat ok to me..wat benefit if u eng mod till max but the eng tak sihat..standat & sihat..if ur car u want to masuk trek ok la..if for normal driving & save money..biar standat lor..me using svt..if u have money go for bt lor..me no money ma..

ok, but is that performance of stock black top engine, good enough for normal use. not for sprint or what but normal use only...as engine is good, not giving much probs, it's ok for me....
 
yea, true.. for normal use only me; any sifu know where can i transplant the blackie?

any sifu can go along wif me if possible? coz i don wanna b 'pig' n slaughter by them kau kau, LoL

newbies here, i oso jus got my blacktop for my AE111...and my blacktop oso for normal use 1 ... satisfy with it ... no kacau oso ... performance quite good ... my stock bt20v can play with my fren stock b16a hehehe.....
u wan to buy BT or SVT can cal me lar.

Put in this way...I drive EG9 before with Big Vtec B16A engine before. Blaktop 20V more reliable and powerful than this engine. No offend to Vtec guy...I'm one of Vtec fan before. hehehhe. and the best thing is the cost of 20V blacktop used part is much more cheaper.
Very reliable engine, just make sure u got enough engine oil and check water level in radiator all the time.
