to me.... HU with no internal amplification is called pure-deck.

7998R will sound nicer compare 9855 i believe.... coz 7998R have better quality components inside

9855 is not a pure deck.It has internal amp which can be disable.
A used 7998R can be anywhere from 1.4-1.8k.Brand new Sg export sets are about rm2k+

IMO, only drawback for the 7998 is the phantom face. Judging from the amount of units sent back for repair.....I would think twice. Just my opinion.

And which rm2k-rm3k HU doesnt have a moving face?Can you insert the cd if the eclipse face doesnt come down?Same goes for the JVC,Pioneer and Alpine 983x.......ask around any CURRENT 7998R users and see if any have encounter problems this 1-2 years.
The hype on 7998R problematic was a batch during the early production units and from i know are those reported on the web MOSTLY from USA WHICH IS AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT model 7998 US market(no optical out and no copper chassis)
I myself am using a 7998R and another 2 close fren using them witout any problem since 2003 and i know AT least another 7-8 IM forummers using them.
If you take notice.....no a lot of 7998R users will tell you they are using one....i wouldn't either...wouldn't wanna risk mine being STOLEN anyway...hahahaha.If you have never used one, you'll never know what your missin.

I know 3 or 4 ppl in Msia using 7998 and have problems
copper chassis versions

dont mean to drag on or argue but i'm happy with my unit and i'm sure 'majority' of the 7998R users are ok wit it....i can't speak on behalf of 'non-7998R' users though.

BTW, if your looking for a non-moving face model...you be better off with a 7990R or a Macintosh HU....FIX FACE
