Hey guys,just want to know what is the difference between a RM3000 Mugen extractor over a normal Rm1k + Custom made extractor?Aside from brand name,is there any difference in performance?Also,what muffler is recommended for b series?Is there any difference in muffler brands ?THanks!
 
hmmm...i dun think brand name is the key here... u can use a custome made one as long as the workmaship is good and the design, size and length are correct for ur engine setup. But, bare in mind tht those tuners like mugen, spoon etc have spent years developing a quality and proven power gain extractors..so, they are surely good at that......
 
mugen rm3000? u mean new?
all used mugen extractor 4-2-1 (small V), 4-2-1(bigV) n 4-1(bigV);
any one of these cost around rm1500-rm2000 for used ones. unless u are lucky.
normal rm1k custom made? better not man.unless he's a very good tuner.

what's the differences?
personally, first of all i think it's the tuned length(performance). ok, u can copy that BUT...read below....haha

2ndly, it's the quality. i've never seen any good quality extractor locally custom made.
u need to see especially the weldings. u can tell rite?

as for copies, can they copy the exact same thing? i mean 100%, of course no rite? n the length of the extractor primary n secondary are very very important. if they can't copy 100%,tat means the performance is not the same.
for copies, can they do mandrel bend? the answer is no. the machine u normally see they do the bending, is NOT a mandrel bending machine.

so, pls choose wisely before u get an extractor....cheers!
 
where got good? just my opinions only.
u ask me where is the extractor? but u r always not free to come n view.......aiya...

Thanks for the detailed reply...what is mandrel bend?And what you mean by length?Which is better then,shorter length or longer?Which setup is for Mid to high-end power?4-1 or 4-2-1 ? For Vtec its better to focus on mid-high end since thats where the power (vteC) comes in right?Lastly,is anyone selling a Mugen or Spoon extractor?Used one...

Agree with XXXX...... what i mean was it is good to use cheaper custom made/copy as long as the they are good at fabricating it to imitate the original design, size and length...then again i think it is almost impossible to find a good one here if any..
 
u r welcome....
for mandrel bend, the diameter of the bend is about the same as the tube's diameter n it's very smooth. very important for the flow of gasses.

i mean length of the tubes/piping of the extractor. not the length of the extractor.haha. for the best setup, u need to know the degree of modifications on ur engine....but no need to precise la...not going to race competition ma....so, just get urself a good n reliable japanese brand of extractor.

for the 4-1 n 4-2-1 issue, u need to read more n the best way to find out is.........
try both urself. n better dyno. it's better than just listening n reading.

what engine r u using? Big V or small V? one sensor(smallV) or two sensors(bigV)?
better dun get those tat's modded....like 1 hole to 2 holes or 2 to 1......
most importantly, ur budget....
mugen ar..... gotta look for it hard unless u r offering high prices...
spoon also the same....but i tot i saw someone selling it at zth some time ago...

XXXX, mind if i ask something ? does the material used to fabricate the extractor affect the performance ? as far as i know some are made from cast iron while others mostly stainless steel. what about normal white or black iron ? other than less weigth what are other benefit can we get from stainless steel (or titanium maybe ?) if compare to cast or normal white and black iron ? thanks

hmmm....materials....u r asking does it affect the performance rite...
things that affects the performance r lenght, diameter(tube n collector), smoothness of the inner surface, the temperature n let me know if there's anymore cos that's all i can think of now.

n the material will affect the smoothness n temperature factors.
for smoothness, whichever material tat gives the best inner surface smoothness is the best thing to use.

temperature......the material will affect the heat transfer between inside n outside of the extractor. the temperature of the gas does affect the flow of the gas. a lot calculations is needed to study this matter n it's even beyond my knowledge.

so, usually, we only compare the materials weight n how long (tahan) the material can be used.(due to corrosion n rust) haven heard of titanium header till now. but titanium alloy exhaust is really really light man! hold one in my hand before....WOW! very very light altho very big size muffler....haha

by the way,oderf, wat extractor r u using?

ha..ha..good question bro... honestly i still run with my std cast iron extractor..almost fit in a mugen imitation 4-1...but sold it after having a second thought....:Not_Impressed:

stock extractor is good,but the most common mod tat the USA ppl do is change their header n exhaust system.it's the easiest way to improve the performance of ur car a bit.

why did u sell it?got urself a jasma stuff?

hmmm... sold after an attempt to smoothening the inner part of the pipes was failed. like u said, the quality of imitation extractors are sucks...they really do!

tried to smooth the inner part? where? too bad....the imitations of extractor.....better get urself a used japan one....haha
 
used, but still can provide optimum performance to ur engine.. rather than buying brand new imitations extractor..

and its blardy hard to get used/brand new extractor for small v.. hhhuuhuh. i only can rely on mr. alex here ekekeke.

titanium exhaust ahh... stim woh... saw amuse S2000 with complete titanium exhaust system.. SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT (can use as lightsaber to sebat ur friend hehe) and the sound produced by F20C thru the exhaust system was truly exhilirating..

Hey xxxx,thanks for your replies bro.i am using B18 engine....What would u say is the best extractor for my engine?Also,what muffler and piping should i use?Does a good japanese extractor really adds noticeble power to my ride?Roughly how many horses will a good exhaust system add to my ride ?
 
hi bro, need for thanks.we r all honda fans rite?so should help each other.

i can't really say which is the best extractor for b18 as i never used a b18 before but there's a few things tat i can tell u...

there r options like mugen (saw tat u r looking for one), spoon, limit ax, RS*R....n many more. normally extractor tat fits b16a also fits b18 but.....

i'd recommend u to look/find for an extractor tat's meant for b18.
i've seen two extractor tat were meant for for b18. one is a limit ax n the other one is an Mugen (as attached)!

wat i notice is tat the diameter of the tubes r larger than b16a's extractor. n also the collector's size. so, u better find one tat's written b18 on the jasma tag.

for muffler n piping, if u wanna race, go for straight n no muffler la....haha
but if u wanna go for street use, go n get a japan full exhaust system(nomally get used ones unless u hav the $$$), any good condition jasma muffler will do.normally ppl choose according to their liking of the sound produced.try to listen to the sound of ur frens exhaust.

all the comments tat i've heard from my frens after installing thier extractor(japanese ones) are....... SYOK!!! u can really feel the difference.

i can't tell u roughly but all the USA mags show increases of hp from 1HP to 15HP.dyno tested with full exhaust system(not including extractor). but i must say tat sometimes the HP will decrease too BUT it will increase ur graph in certain areas.

as the conclusion, find urself an extractor tat's meant for b18 n a japanese ready made full exhaust system or just the piping will do if u wanna mix n match with another muffler.

do let me if u found any, i'd like to know ur comments after installation n used. thanks.....haha
