blacktop 20v, fuel consumption can go la rm40 for 400km++
also depend on driving style...

anyone looking for blacktop 20V engine? got 1 friend planning to sell his blacktop 20v for rm 2k. just help him to post the info.

OH MY GOODNESS GOD! RM40 for 400km?? that is so lucky... i cant even get 70km per RM10.

a reasonable consumption for a healthy STOCK blacktop should be around
-10~12km/liter town driving
-12.5~15km/liter on long distance travel

both of the above are with respect to polite driving.

in a more simple term, a 30.xx liter fillup worth RM50 (as of 16 Nov 2005) should get u around 300-460km.

for more details, u should browse and scroll around this page. go back a few levels up to get information on other models and makes as well.

Yeah, driving very2 polite... no pedal-to-floor principle
then running on highway, should be doable

summore, install adjustable fuel regulator and set to minimum (about 34-36 psi) if not mistaken

hehehehehe... that from my friend's experience driving 20v BT

how's the maintainence of the engine? is that every now and then got something to replace and so on. what about the reliability of this engine? any coments

btw, try to get a manual transmission, auto it just kill ur engine's rear mounting.. :D hahahha!! but still...it is very cheap to get a new one :P hahaha!!! so....no need worry lar...

good engine for travelling, having fun and for working. ^_^

again, speaking from a STOCK engine point of view;

in 2001 when i had my SVT installed for me, i had the timing belt change in early 2002 and one driveshaft (short side) in 2003. those are the only major repairs aside from A/cond (not bcoz of engine) and normal maintenance from mid2001 to end2004. Driving style: mad cow crazy :D

in 2004 when i installed my BT and did a full overhaul + replaced the old water pump, the engine per-se hasn't needed any major repairs at all. still going strong after 2 track days and numerous "road encounters" as of time or writing. the only bad thing i experienced is both the halfcuts i bought have grinding 2nd gears  unlucky.

if u take care of everything well on ur part, then this is one engine that u can whack till hell and back and not worry about a thing. :D

me? eventho the fact is its the only engine i can afford, i totally love it to bits. it has brought me very far.

what do u mean by second gear grinding? is this a common problem with the blacktop? can it be solved?

Gear 2 r? No r.. :D hahah!! but I do know my gearbox 3rd gear got a bit problems...but..kekee!! after check..aiyo!~~ from gear 1-3 the gear plate so thick... :P

even I got one KE20 also gear box hantam gao gao... err..worst part is kenak scold by fren and my dad until the gear oils comes out like jelly also can still use..

^_^

I do believe maybe dropping gear does the damages...but not really major... but what i did heard is that if u goes for 6 gears transmission, if u didn't modded ur car and stock. U won't get a problems on 5th and 6th gear...but if u do touch anything changes on cam or increasing bhp.. :D u know ler, 5th and 6th are the most thinnest plate... so... ^_^ hehehehe!!

but then ar.. just some common sense lar, ppl who mod their engine sure go fast one, and without modding a final drive they might never really go to 5th and 6th gear :D

bro, is it true that auto tranny will kill the engine's rear mounting? any specific reason for that? by the way, to which chasis does it happen? ae92/101/111? coz mine running with auto tranny... so a bit curious to know more

:frown:

rollakid,
its not a common problem. its due to the previous japanese owner's reckless and harsh gear habits and perhaps neglect on gbox maintenance. i am really one of a kind to have beaten the odds by getting 2 consequtive halfcuts with the same worn gearbox. the grinding is bcoz of badly worn syncromesh gears.

suma,
if u dont floor the pedal very often (down shift to sprint), then there's no reason to worry about the rear mounts giving away quickly. in other words, always maintain a smooth and gradual speed and less racing.

AE80TypeD

thanks for the advice... that's relieve me a bit....
is there any technical reason for the mounting to go koyak?

simple.
whenever u tekan more, usually for the gear to down shift. u suddenly get pickup rite? when this happens, the engine moves around a lot (front and back, front and back as the gear changes). if u keep repeating the sprint too often, the engine puts stress on the mounts. the rear mounts happens to be on the gearbox itself and is the smallest of 4 (for corolla). u are effectively squeezing the mounting rubber many times until it tears.. so lama2 koyak lor.
