however, i think they should also stripped the drivers' points coz its proven they also benefit from the info...

100 million Only?
That would be like spare change to them....

most of 'em knows bout the 'relationship' between Ferrari n FIA..
even the legendary Jackie Stewart commented these..
F:FERRARI
I:INTERNATIONAL
A:ASISSTANCE

and another thing...... given such penalty, why are they still allowed to drive? its weird u know..... stupid FIA....

Basically it works down to this.

McLaren are hugely screwed in this case. I knew it from the start. The fact that the FIA let them off the hook lightly in the first place is enough reason to deny that they are pro Ferrari. In fact they were more pro British.

With Ferrari pressing the matter though, with legal proceedings and everything, the FIA has to do something to McLaren, to clear up this mess, one whereby the aggrieved, which is Ferrari, would be happy with.

So therefore, McLaren are screwed. They'll not only be fined 100 million but they'll lose any prize money they are supposed to get, which can be up to 70 million. So 179 million possibly down the drain. Not an insignificant sum, no matter how rich McLaren is because they have huge bills to pay.

Why didn't Hamilton and Alonso get penalised then? Since the FIA have essentially said that McLaren are guilty and have benefited from Ferrari technical data. The assumption is that the FIA do not want to wreck one of the most exciting seasons ever and face public backlash. Just imagine what happens if the driver's championship is essentially ended today? They can't afford that.

Personally I think this is all some horsesh1t witchhunt from FIA and Todt.

They still have not proven conclusively that Ferrari intellectual property was actually incorporated into the 2007 McLaren cars. All they have is circumstantial evidence that Ferrari info was in the hands of one rogue McLaren employee and one rogue Ferrari employee. Both Couglan and Stepney were confirmed by Honda and Toyota to have approached the teams for jobs. Presumably, as they were planning to ditch their current jobs, having the Ferrari info to themselves makes the men more saleable to potential new employers.

The verdict basically assumes guilt without actually having to establish guilt.

The laughable hypocrisy is that if FIA and Todt is so darn certain McLaren is dirty, then why the half-assed measures to just mete out partial punishment on constructor's points rather than banning the team from the entire season. If you allege someone has definitely been wrong, then arguably the punishment should be total or nothing.

No, I think I smell a rat somewhere in FIA and Todt.

The stink hanging over this entire circus is that McLaren looks to have been made a scapegoat by FIA because Todt is baying for a competitor's blood on account of a mischief which ironically was initiated by one of Todt's men.

thatz the thing..... its weird to just dock the points and still continue racing.. under such circumstance, i reckon that a team should be suspended for good.. and not allowed to use the machine..

hmmmmmm......

Like I said, they do not want this season to be a farce (one of the better seasons I might add). Which is what it would be if McLaren gets thrown out of the competition. F1 has been desperate to get more fans, which they got this season and they aren't going to throw it away. Which is why McLaren gets its points docked and penalised but its driver's aren't. Ferrari is happy because they get something. McLaren can still get the driver's crown. The fans gets lots more action. Ecclestone's happy. FIA happy. The price is that McLaren takes one up the ass. I'm sure the thought this through and figured this is the best way to kind of solve this situation.

I'm a McLaren fan first and foremost. But, I knew this was coming. I thought they got off lightly the first time. Sure, they couldn't prove that McLaren benefited from leaked Ferrari data. BUT, their chief designer was caught red handed with the leaked Ferrari data. Its basically like getting caught with your pants down with another woman in a hotel room by your wife. It didn't matter if you were innocent, you are screwed.

FIA will present everything within this week..
that will answer everything from j.stewarts comments to the pro mclaren/merce supporter..

It is said that they have the physical evidence on the txt msg/recordings n stuffs from technical ppl n also alonso n pit crew..

WTH... McLaren also kena such punishment... NOT FAIR!!! McLaren always play fair, where got like fa la li... and they get such punishment... damn it...
Bravo fa la li... they were known to like to sue other teams too... sad.....
McLaren Mercedes are very big company, the FIA not worry of any effect after that?

Whichever way you cut it, it's still a cop-out by FIA, my friend. :) It's definitely not a case of the FIA holding strongly to principles, but rather they massaged the principles to suit the situation. Plainly put, it's bullshit. You can forget what report they are planning to release because it'll be full of self-serving rubbish and innuendos.

On the one hand, they want to nail someone for an alleged wrong, but on the other hand they are worried of the backlash to the F1 franchise if the full weight of punishment is brought down.

On another hand, they have not established any conclusive proof that McLaren acted on the info. And therefore guilt has not been established. But they also don't have the guts to acquit McLaren because Ferrari is too influential.

It's a case when FIA is pulled in so many directions by so many competing interests that they finally compromised some principles..... make McLaren a scapegoat to keep Ferrari happy, but let McLaren compete to keep the F1viewership happy. They chose the lesser of two evils.

LOL Crap !
