Hey guys i'm in a delima.
Why my PS2 cannot play GT4 even though it's supposedly modded.
The thing is i assume MGS3 is a DVD9 disc, and i can play it, how come i cannot play GT4?
I've tried 3 different discs and it wont load.
So i believe it might be my PS2. So what can i do to make it GT4 playable?
Is there any shops or mods u guys recommend?
I just dont wanna send my ps2 to shop and they can promise the ends of the earths and end up replacing my perfectly working ps2 for some beaten up mother boards.
Help i'm blur i want to play gt4 sob sob

Lol i have the same problem as u ... weirdd !!!

Some ppl say old model ps2 cannot play .

er so any suggestions?
Or dont tell me i need to change my lense or maybe mine is not dvd9 compliant?
so any idea what is required? need to upgrade the chip or how?
ARGH....

dude..i oso face the same prob.. i think the disc...coz i bro my cuz cd..can play..

i play GT4 for straight 2 hours then i can see my tv screen flickers sometimes, i think the output too strong

But i said i've tried 3 different discs. and all of them english versions cannot load. The chinese version can play abit, but very slow load times and crashes way too often.
So how ah?
Any shop to recommend?

now i used old version 1 also can play. haha.

for more info i will try update la, coz i forgot liao

When I first bought it, I tot I couldnt play it as well. When I switched
the console, it will go to "System Browser", but then it'll start loading
after a while. Not too sure if it applies the same to your machine thou.
Oh btw, mine is the chinese version of GT4, dunno old
or new version, but i bought it early this yr.

Gt4

GT4 is a game printed on DVD9
Assuming that we are taking about the "ahem cheap" games.
This is available in
GT4 NTSC/J (Japanese version)
GT4 NTSC/J (Chinese version)
GT4 PAL (English version)
GT4 NTSC/UC (English version did not worked)

In order for this game to run, everything have to be in tip top condition.

Console; condition of the laser lense.
"ahem cheap" games
The disk has to be in good condition, as these are "ahem cheap" games, there is just no quality quality control.
Mod Chip has to support DVD 9 (most of the mod chip, 2 years ago already support DVD 9)

From these messages, a calculated guess is that most of your console is not in ultimum condition. This point to the laser.

Your options are,
1) If your console is running well, especially with DVD9 movies. Buy an original GT4. Think it is 300plus.
2) If your console is running well, especially with DVD9 movies. Send your console for repair, tweaking (tunning) of the laser. But be warn that, this might break your console as it comsume lots of wear on the laser lense, especially playing DVD 9 games.
3) Change the laser lense. Costly, think it could cost from 240 to 480.
4) Buy a brand new bear set unit.

Why can DVD 9 movies work and not GT4.
The "ahem cheap" movies, unlike games, had the regional code lock ripped off in the software. Movies run sequencialy. Games is different as the data are packed randomly and you move from place to place (depending on where you navigate in the game). You can listen to the movement of the laser lense when it tracks & focus on the disk eeeeeeh, subbbbb sound.

My personal recommedation is if you must play GT4, then go for option 4. Use the new console only to play games that do not run on the old console. Use the old console for games until it total died down, discard. This shall save you more $ and less headache. There are certain life spent on each and every equipment, just use the PS2 for games. DVD are very cheap to buy.

The solution that I had taken is that, I saved all these $ on repairs and got a Kotal-X made by abang Bill. I am paying Fonza Motorsport. It is much better that GT4 and less costly and less headache in the long run.

** this is just my personal opinion, just sharing

This Forza game is nicer to play then GT4?
I'm just a tad annoyed coz the steering wheel i bought just to play GT4 is gathering dust.
Well do u have any recommendation as to whom i can send my PS2 for upgrading or tweaking? I think its time for it as it's a good 3 years old. Yes it does make the DVD reading "noises".
I'm only sceptical about doing the upgrading work as i've heard ppl's experience of their "so so" condition PS2 becoming "super crap" after the mods only to find out the whole thing inside the case been swapped.
Being penny wise and pound foolish i'm still keen on solution 3. Simple reason is i hardly get the chance to play the ps2. So i think it's economical and i prefer to tweak my PS2 providing i can find a place that can mod it.

mine.. worst case senario... after putting in this GT4 disc... it didnt load... then my PS2 went crazy cant load my other old games also.... now in deep shit... must go repair !! diu la !

I understand how you guys feel.i bought my ps2 in 2000 and modded it in 2002. One thing about mod chips is that after a year or two it gives out. I sold it 2 years back.

One of the reasons the chip spoils is because (for modded ones only) you always have to press the restart button. Everytime it clears the memory the chip works overtime overwriting the bios.

The best bet is to send it in for check up at least once a year and replacing the chip every 2 years. The lens also needs maintenance once in a while.

There is a technique to actually keep the chip from spoiling. I'm getting another PS2 soon cos i cannot tahan not playing GT4.Once i learn the technique i will post it up but not certified to work of course.

Game Center

All these games centered in Sungei Wang / Low Yat / Imbi area. Most of these shops sent it to repair centers. Suggest you send it to your regular shop, otherwise you might end up with more headaches.....:-)
