hi hi. so i've got myself a second hand stage 2 camshaft for my eg. where is the best place to install and tune it? i've got all the reasonable mods eg: FPR, AFC, cam gears, head port polish. i'm thinkin of going to a professional workshop which deals with all these tuning. better mar hor... any suggestions? thanks!

Erm,mind to ask what do you mean by 'tune cam'?Or you mean set the cam lift?

I also wanted to know what's the different if SET & WITHOUT SETTING the cam. What's the impact on the horsepower if got.Pro & con.Thanks.

tune as in setting the advance and retard the cam timing by adjusting the cam gears.
no offense but i don't think amoil deals with d16 engines. they're good with b series. but anywhere else other than amoil?

theres only 1 cam to be tuned. less hassle, less dyno.

thanks guys! has anyone of you installed cams in their soHc? what are your cam pulley settings?

hi nonac,
what i can say since you have a single cam pulley with markings of -5 and +5 for example, i would say you can make 10 runs to compare the difference. since 1 point is 1 run, then you have 10 runs to estimate in minimum. it would definitely be more than 10 runs with all the ECU/EMS tuning till its done.

if anyone has the same setup as yours probably u can have a headstart from his settings and make things better from there.

maybe u can try SPEEDWORKS in PJ.

hey good idea j101. thanks! but it's gonna burn alot of fuel for 10runs man. and engine heat build up is probably gonna affect the power output after 5 runs! i currently have it set at -2 with slightly regrind cams. but once i get my new cams i'll probably try -2 -1 0 1 2. to push it further is probably gonna be worthless.

just wondering if anyone had any experience and wish to share. any help is great! thanks guys!

What exactly are the benefits of tuning cam settings?Whats wrong with the stock cam settings ???Are there any downsides when it comes to cam tuning ? Please explain !!

thanks walbro.
by setting your cams to retard or advance, you're adjusting the duration the valves lift open. so this will allow more fuel/air into your combustion chamber. hence... more hp.

your answer :
- if you have done all the P&P I/H/E probably it would be good to set the STOCK cams again to see if there are any power increment or even loss.
- there is nothing wrong with the STOCK cam setting. ppl are just attracted to buying cam gears since its cheap and attractive, got colour somemore. futhermore its bolt on.
- the downside is when u dont do it on a dyno. logically how would u know the power increment. even sometimes with dyno, tuner tend to get carried away with business and use the "similar" settings based on other cars with is INCORRECT.

you cannot set cam gears in your house or garage and then go out on the road and run. you have to be on a dyno, on a dyno you adjust and then check to make sure your not loosing to much power. so at the end of the day you need to get on a dyno. every engine is different and you simply cant just take someone elses timing and expect it to work. by moving the powerband, its your choice which power side do you want. best is with aftermarket high profile camshafts. if you want to be fancy, hks or toda has nice cam gears for sale :)

what's the difference in different brands of cam gear?...is ther an obvious performance/durability/setting, etc between let say arospeed cam gear and toda/hks or even those custom made ones?...
