Hi all ZTHers and toyotarians,

22 feb 2011- my engine has been service and and replace oil engine.
On 14 march 2011-I've checked engine oil level and surprised that oil level is at 'L', what has happened? it's only been 3 weeks and 2000 km after service but engine oil decreased so fast.

This problem has been happened before when I am using 5w/40 pennzoil oil. I thought maybe the oil is too thin. So changed it to 10w/40 eneos. Same thing also happened.

Where all the engine oil gone?

What has been checked
-spark plug -no sign of oil or black stain
-white smoke -no white smoke or smell of burned engine oil

If the engine oil has been vaporized, is that so fast? :stupid:

----add-----

-also checked that no drip oil or kesan minyak at engine area.
-most of oil seal replace before transplant process (oct 2010)

Wow bro, I think its quite dangerous running your 20v with the oil level at low. Judging by the amount of oil you're loosing, I suspect it could be you valve seals or worst, piston rings.
You mentioned no white smoke, even when revving / full throttle? 20v is quite common to worn valve seals & piston rings and will eat engine oil till kingdom come.

Suggest to do a compression test and maybe change to other oil such as Motul Turbolight or Q8. There has been some cases that 20v will mysteriously eat up engine oil even when there's no sign of white smoke or oil leaks. But the truth is 20v is very sensitive to engine oil and you need to be careful with what oil you pour into your engine.

Is it true 20v is sensitive to oil type?
Maybe need to check compression first.
Can you suggest any workshop bro?

try use 15w/50 oil or 10w/50

(front number with "W" only effective during cold start or to be precise WINTER condition)..

the real hot temp. level was number after W...

bigger number=thicker oil.....help reduce the risk.....

by the mean time yes agree with pcmodd to do compression test...then only u can decide to change worn piston ring or worn valve seal :adore:

i've used before 5w-30, 10w-30 and currently 10w-40 but never used before 20w-50. can't really feel the difference with those 3 grades (actually no feeling at all :P). maybe i'm too insensitive towards engine's response but no 'missing' or makan oil occured for my engine before. like the others said, do a compression test first (hopefully nothing below 12 from the gauge reading). good luck

problem same as me before,,,
Engine Lube oil decrease after 2 week service,,, i cant see white smoke when revving,,, Only tiny black spot stick at rear bumper...
Then ask mechanic he said piston ring worn out,,,, then replace piston ring + top overhaul,,,
after that no engine lube oil decrease issue....

stupid question here....but i had to check...did u check the engine oil when the engine was running or just stopped running?

topping up on behalf of my previous first post.

I experienced once that my car was parked on a very very slight slop (slanting to the left side of the car) of a cement surface. I was shocked to see my oil level at half. moved my car to a flat surface and the reading returned back to 'F'. So like arturo said, hope u r not running ur engine and make sure it's on a flat flat surface before u take the reading. just from my noob experience.

hahaha..maybe he check his car engine oil level during running...how it can measure rite...serious here, just try 20w/50 any brand...maybe ur engine noy so good condition as my last bt also start using 20w/50 after oil missing after trying fully 5w/40 x ,10w/40 x ,15w/40 cant also.finally,i plan to use normal oil which cost me only around rm55 to rm65 for 20w/40 or 20w/50..any brand lo..shell,mobil,toyota,petronas....as long as it not chop ayam lo.

Bro, maybe i'm noob. but i'm that stupid to check engine oil level during running.
oil level is check early morning before start the engine.

not trying to insult u la. just trying to check all bases.

There is a cap ayam call Morey's heavy duty oil stabilizer, www.moreyoil.co.nz,have you try this?

im using 20w/50(shell red bottle) cos last time when i put in 10w/40 (shell yellow bottle), my oil level went down in 2 weeks from full to empty.
then i switch from yellow to red, till today after 2 mths, the oil level still full. cos suspect my head or oil seals are leaking.

Nop bro. no black smoke at all even on WOT.
What I've found from google is if valve seal are worn, there will be white smoke at early of engine running.
Yes, there is a white smoke but i think that is water stim where i also can saw water drip at exhaust.

20w-50 is too thick? by whose definition? it all boils down to ur requirements, if u need a 50 weight oil, use a 50 weight oil, easy peasy.

btw, dis is seems like a classic case of oil evaporation, u need an oil dat is less volatile, higher flash points. its either the oil u r using isnt the original one, or ur engine is running way hotter then what the oil can handle. i had problem like dis before, but after changing to another brand, my problem was solved

Btw what engine you use? Last time I using GSR eventho no leaking but the engine oil always don't know went to where! Dont even need check see Oil Press down I know need to top up Liao. But not fast as your la...
