I'm currently using Soundstream VGA500.4 (500W RMS under bridge mode) to drive the 12" Helix Deep Blue subwoofer (250W RMS). Most of the time I'm listening to slow rock, pop and jazz. My installer recommend me to install the power capacitor as he said will improve the subwoofer performance. I need to seek the sifus input on which situation the power capacitor is needed and will it really improve my current setup? Thanks.

dun need that!! i also play sound system... my mechanic told me no need... waste of money only... it doesnt do much... not everything in the market useful 1... sum just to suck money from ppl like us...

Well dev, what is you say is true, but most people reccomend to install a cap when rms power more than 500, if not the battery will drain out very fast.. Unless we install a high powered battery. This will help alot.

cap does help...but if ur system is not very high powered, then it make no different..unless u change ur battery to a bigger capacity like 80 or 100A

im using 3 amps in my car.. been using it like 3 years... no problem till now.. everything still good.. no problem wit the battery o wat so ever.. yeah im using a big battery... if ur wiring everything good n u got the rite wires 4 ur system then everything should n will b good .. sorry i cant remember bro.. my car is back in malaysia... im at aust... but i seriously dun thinkit does really help...

Wah!! You from Sban also? Don't let me see you, or I.... Haha just joking no hard feeling please. Anyway I install in few locations in Sban, which one can offer me best price then I buy from them, 1 is Jinsan, the boss is really a pro, but his gang, abit... 2 is opposite balai bomba. Both of them cannot help me to eliminate airplane sound.
My latest system is Pioneer 5750, no pre-amp and crossover, caliber amp 5020 to pwoer my RF Fanatik X2614 and a pair of JVC 4.5" speaker, back is LA B300.2 to power my 12" RDS SVC woofer. I went to a shop in Temiang that selling LA amps said you have to add only when power is more than 500. With the total power of more than 500, you can go for competetion liao. How about yours? What is your setup?

i really cant remember wats my setup.. im using 3 amp..... biggest 1 just to kick 1 12" sub, anotherr 1 to kick the behind 6" mid n tweeters.. n another 1 to kick the front 6" mid n tweeters too.. electronic crossover(PROFILE) my wirings all hot wires... thats all.. cannot remember cause i havent seen my car 4 nearly 6 month =( miss it alot..

Like that got airplane sound or not? Looks like you know about the earthing story, I think you got no problem... Anyway to avoid this problem later, better change the 2 amp to a 4channel amp....

proud to say that i never face any aeroplane sound wit my sound system setup.... proper earthing is very important... like i said wiring also plays an important role... i been playing 4 5 years already everytime upgrade upgrade until fedup already... muahaha now no more liao... no just wit that setup only.. dowan to play anymore... can listen happy already

Goodlah you got no problem, better you tell trex, he still don't get it. Anyway I like you also, change until fedup, so now back to basic, like this is easier, but still got some sound, maybe the battery no good liao, going to change amp again in this few weeks time. Where you stay?

i dun think it has anything to do wit ur battery o anything bro.. just ur earthing only.. try checking ur earth wire r not loose at bolting part... r u sound system wires bolted o sholder.. its better to scrape the paint off then only sholder it... dun bolt sound system wires... and like i said make sure u put on the good wires... dun go 4 cheap 1s... ur RCA wires also... anyway im from templer... if u got the rite things 4 ur sound system it will even sound better then the branded 1s... it depends all on ur setup... trust me... but im not comparing kicker, soundstream o wat so ever wit the real real cheap 1s like from brother k... muahahhaha i hope u und wat im trying to say.... mine system components r not the highest range brand, except sum only.... mine all rojak  got ori PROFILE, NICKEL RCA, 1 NICKLE amp, 2 CARSPEC, ALPINE summore cannot remember la.. ehehhee

Agree with you, branded 1 not always perfect. But sometimes battery might got some affect on the system, atleast this happen to me now. Think of changing the battery first then follow by rewiring back my amp. I just buy the power cables from a electronic shop.

when your sub bass kicks in and your car lights start dimming or flickering, then the cap might help, if not u dont really need it. 1F cap is for 1000W system.

Wahlau, want to wait until this happen. If auto maybe cannot start the car already....

first your installer doesnt know what is he talking about, all he is interested in is selling you those caps. Caps inscreae subs performance?? by what performance does he meant? Does installing caps make your sub hit harder or get more Db??

Caps are very good for cosmetics, it does look good in your car. I suggest you read more on what is capasitor and its functions also ESR.

Installing 2 or more amps (depends on power usage) will strain your alternator and will shorten your alternator life. It is advisable to augrade your cables (big 3) and good grounding is a must. adding a second battery will not help because it will strain your alternator more. Upgrading your cables and alternator is the best option to have a stable power supply and solving dimming lights.

i agree wit u appleyard.... battery output n earthing r the most important issues in sound system...

an audio caps comes in alot of sizes. from 0.5 farad to a hefty 20 farad. ussually those 20 farads is for those demo car which have more than 10 amps or military use. 1 farad equals to a million micro farad. a cap is needed when a systems draw to much current or juice in an instance. means the alternator or bat cant withstand a sudden increase of power needed. this is where a cap kicks in to help. a cap work as a reservoir. it save a sum of power and then release back. so when the amps needed power, a cap should be able to give it. so the summarry is. it gives power when needed or it gices power at a constant rate. so that means better amp performance and tighter and more powerful bass

I've asked a shop, he said more than 500watt rms then only need a cap. For a system that have 500watt rms is only for people to listen from outside, not from inside.
