Whats wrong with my com

Previously when i want to turn my com on i need to try a few times.
Some times it would click and whirr a bit before shutting down, thats before going to the loading loading pageduno whats that called.
so i thought it was the power supply so i changed it to an i-cute 460 watt power supply, thought it was over but actually its still happening
what i have to do as usual is presss the cpu button, if no response then i have to switch off the main supply long nough for the mouse light to go off, then try again, i repeat this till the com can run.
could it be the mother board? when i turn the main power supply on i see the keyboard light and the mouse light on. but the com cannot run... https://www.zerotohundred.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif alt='sad.gif' />

forgot to mention, my processor is an amd athlon 2ghz,previously at startup it would show 1.777 ghz cos the limit of the motherboard is 1.8. but now at start up only show 1.27ghz

err...is ur switch button cable properly connected to your motherboard?

Elmo : Your mobo is busted. Get a new one to support your 2ghz la!

Another thing to try : Look for the CMOS clear pin, set it to clear the CMOS, turn on your comp (it won't switch on), set the CMOS back to its original position, then try again. You'll probably need to re-setup your CMOS tho.. but anything that's faulty should be wiped out.

Hopefully it's not a hardware problem la.

Oh.. I just re-read your post.. there's a very slight possibility that your processor is busted. You shouldn't but using it at lower speeds la. Technically its ok but AMD chips are very sensitive la.

Elmo : Look for your mobo manual.. there's something like CMOS CLEAR or something like that.. just a matter of taking out the pin only. Otherwise pass comp to me.. I fix for u but I charge RM50 per session (if successful fix la) Hehe.

Btw, if you gonna change ur mobo.. can I have ur spoilt one? I collect these things and salvage the components to install onto one test board that I'm making. Hehehehe.. that one if doesn't work will jibaboom la. hehehee

Or pull out the battery and after 1-2 minutes put back. Will reset CMOS.

Right! That too! :P hehehe.. but you'll need to pull out and leave it out for at least until the capacitors discharge.. about 15 minutes.. or 30 seconds. Totally depends. Hehehehehe

et5828 : You need more memory. I run at 512Mb RAM and never face this problem. Alternatively it could be your Windows is too congested and needs to be cleaned. Try a program called "System Mechanic". It helps clean up unwanted files and stuff and cleans ur registry too. Worst case scenario is delete Windows (not format) and reinstall it.

now my com have another prob, both cd drives can't read anymore
when i try to open the cd drive to view the things inside frm MyComputer, the thing hangs
then one drive became possessed, when i close it, it auto open n refuse to close...till i cabut the power line to it.... scary...u stupid old com, gona replace u peice by piece like frankenstein...muahahahhaa :lol: :lol:

:blink: I don't know which is scarier.. you or the computer!

The possessed phenomenon is generally a problem with either the mobo or windows. U better format your windows sometime and update it with the latest patches and fixes after you change your mobo
