Ive just installed a brand new external wastegate TIAL 38 mm last weekend. My problem is it doesn't "open" at 1.0 bar but instead at 1.5 bar. As i now the 38 mm is used for 0.7-1.0 bar boosting. How do i adjust to make it "open" at 1.0 bar? FYI
My mechanic told me that the hole cut on the manifold for the placement of the wastegate is too big. It should be the size of 20 sen but mine is bigger. I was told if the hole were smaller it could open up faster. Need your feedback. Thanks

no such crap in terms of size... ;)

the outlet hole from exhaust manifold should be the same size of the adapter given by TIAL...which is exactly 38mm and it comes with a small little ring to avoid leakages..

TIAL has 2 springs in the box...1 is for 0.7bar...and another for 1.0 bar...
Did u install the right springs ?
does ur car have a boost controller ?
wat is ur preset boost max boost ?

Sum-dum-fuk
1. Am not sure abt the springs but from the box it states 1.0 bar
2. Yes i do have boost controller, using AVCR but didnt do any detailed setting such as RPM, Ne Point and such
3. My preset boost from the AVCR is 0.9 bar

What went wrong?

means da w/g is letting ur turbo spool all da way till 1.5bar then only open or ?

If ur boost meter reads 1bar all da way till u hit redline..then the w/g is doing itz job..but if not...it could be also be the connecting hoses..

TIAL has 2...1 ontop and 1 below...which did u connect the vacuum hose to ?

the other thing is...did u pick the correct vacuum hose from boost controller ?

The wastegate only opens at 1.5 bar. Once it reached 1.5 bar i do not dare push it anymore . Initially, i connected both of the wastegate nippets (top and botttom) connecting to the AVCR. Yesterday decided to take the AVCR out and connect the vacuum hoses to the top nippet of the wastegate. But the problem still persists.

i sense u got connection problems there dude...

better seek 'professional' opinion.... ;) i can't help without lookin at the car and how the hoses run now...

I think the top nipple is for Boost controller.

THe middle nipple is for Boost signal (the hose that connects to the Turbo or I/C piping).

(.)(.)

I think its a case of hose connected wrongly or the wrong spring tension used.

But I think wrong spring rating can be ruled out because if your boost cuts out at 1.5bar, that means your spring tension is about 2bar, higly unlikely Tial packed a 2 bar spring tension in the 38mm w/g. (external wastege also needs to resist the pressure of exhaust temperature and flow)

joe..

basically we need to see how they 'T' off the vacuum hoses and how they run the boost controller hoses too....this way easier to solve...

if he keep on trying n trying...wait engine goes BOOM...dangerous siaa..

joe: damn free ah u...can draw such nice diagram.. kwakawkwakaw

I have the same wastegate, and I'm quite sure you have connected it wrongly.

Try this, boost hose, connect to the lower nipple. Top one, vent to atmosphere (meaning don't connect it). Don't put your AVCR solenoid first. You should be getting 1bar boost, as per the spring rating (if it is indeed 1bar).

Once that is confirmed, and you intend to boost higher, then put in the AVCR solenoid between the boost source and the lower nipple. Keep the top nipple venting to atmosphere.

There is another method involving connecting the top nipple to a boost controller, which is supposed to reduce boost spikes, but I'm not sure about that as I didn't try it. The method I adviced above is what I'm using, so at least I know it works.

Thanks for all the advice, like u guys have said i connected the hose incorrectly. Now ive taken out the AVCR connection and instead directly connected the boost hose to the lower nipple. Wat i did previously was connecting it to the top nipple. Now it works fine and opens at 0.9 bar

how much u get the wastegate ah? i also looking for a wastegate
TE,

N1 and KSP retailing the 38mm TIAL W/G at RM950.

u bought at JFA RM950? with install? but JFA do my w/g very bad. installed about a week then wan drop down liao.. cos the emm... dont know how to say... :) but the work really bad... i bring back to him to do back then he ask me to pay for RM180 again... :(

RM950 is just the wastegate. All in all it cost me RM1,600 for replacing the location of the intercooler piping, modfying the manifold and such. Wat do u mean something drop down?
