Just wanted to find out, what kinda warranties did you get when you purchase halfcuts? From my enquiries, normally when you get it through your mechanic it is 1 month. ( 3 mths very rare)

Some, I heard, purchase yourselves at halfcut without any warranty.

So, is there a huge price difference if you get it yourself than through your mechanic? The price in most cases is cheaper through a mechanic since they regular buyers in bigger quantities. Also, they can negotiate longer warranties.

lelako - agree with you, better to service/check the whole engine to make sure it is running flawlessly. Othwerise you'd end up paying extra to fix every small problem that crops up.

on an earlier vestax point - I 'd also like to point out that eventhough halfcut shops do not manufacture 2nd hand parts, it does belong to them. It does not justify selling you something that does not work at a price of a working engine. That is considered cheating already. You can have them arrested if they con ppl like that.

*ps. sorry got some error replying messages ... maybe due to taiwanese broadband.

hehe.. jsut to letchu know, I only got 1 wk I think.

But I didn't care cos I stripped the whole thing bare 1st. I even told my mechanic, don't need to start la. Regardless can or cannot, we just take the 1/2 cut...

cheers!

i got bad experience purchasing halfcut. not one thing from the halfcut lasted more than 3 months, except the ecu and turbo.
engine lost compression, gearbox syncro broken, driveshaft very noisy, and many other problems, but all problem surfaced after warranty expired. now my car is just lying around under a tree in front of my house. got no money to replace/overhaul engine and gearbox. :(

well danny ,
you are dealing with used parts , parts that are been used and you & them aren't awear of the condition , untill u fix it , if its spoild then get it change that simple . if you had been conned then ur not alone " welcome to the real world " , im sure lots of people back here has been conned as well .

Buying anything that is used is always a 'lemon' thing. You and I will never know what had happened to the products with the previous user, therefore there is a need of professional help.

As old man advise, always bring your mechanic to purchase the half cut with you, he will be able to notice immediate defects at one sight and by looking into the half cut carefully he will definitely catch more defects than what we the normal eye does.

But remember, there is no such thing as 100% or warranty on it, don't accept any rainchecks from them.

i but 1 damn nice chun b8 engine...
warranty for only 1 week...(makan oil or water)
not warranty pecah.....
3-4 months later....ENGINE pecah.....
fix it... my car came out on last monday...4 days later GEARBOX pecah! 3rd gear GONE!
fucking angry about it man!
spend nearly 26 for the car and it's still stock!
:~(
now need to spend about 2k for the gearbox!
:~(

I bought mine thru my mech... 2 days after taking home my newly transplanted car.. my ECU burned... but my mech fixed for me at no charge. the thing is i needed to wait for a week before i could drive my car again. After a week which i had the initial problem solved, my air-cond failed.. it was fixed at no extra charge. I think all depends on how honest your mech is. Some mech purposely changed some defective parts prior to installation, and they blame half-cut fellas.

Yeah meng.. this problem damn susah.

Mine also air con tarak, mechanic fixed it no charge.
Driveshaft destroyed (thanks to alignment time...), replaced at no extra charge (but must share for tow-truck!.. shud get AAM).

Sometimes if u r assertive in the way you deal with your mechanic, can kawtim wan.
But better still: treat him as a friend. Be nice. Drop by with a little momento or something (buah tangan can range from fruits, magazine, can drinks, complimentary calendars or diaries ke... or anything la). Courtesy calls also help, doesn't really mean that you only contact him in case you got problems with yr car. Can be a simple hello!! :)
He'll do the best he can for you. Lucky I've built a relationship along those lines with me pomen... we're friends now.

yea agree with lekalo

Be nice to your mechanic. and u will reap the benefits. My mechanic helped me to choose my B8 halfcut, overhauled, transplanted it into my car and maintains it. Have run the transplanted engine for 70k kms and no big malfunctions yet. Common courtesy will normallly make a difference anyway....they are also human beings.

Just my 2 sens

:)

so the moral of the story is if you want to get an engine transplant from a halfcut, better get it from your trusted mechanic or someone you know who can kowtim all the problems without extra charge. like vestax said, it is used parts. Nevertheless, doesn't mean it is used parts there are no warranty. Even if you buy 2nd hand items from cash converters they give warranty. If they can give mechanics warranties, they should give it to you as well.

For those who fall victim to con jobs (ie misrepresented and paying for defective part) please know that it is an offence under the criminal act. Don't just sit there and do nothing. If you lodge a police report, the police will make a visit to the chop shop to investigate and if found guilty, they will be forced to close down. Of course, to have more leverage on your hand, ask the shop to write you a receipt and also put a note on what kind of warranty is provided.

true lelako, u treat ppl well, they will treat you well also.

yeah danny ,
they have warranty just that you can't expect it to be long , either you get a week or a month warranty , for 3 month's warranty its too much to ask , unless its a recond product like aircond compressor , they have warranty up to 6 month's , but this is a halfcut , max you will get is 1 month .

and faulty parts like oil seals , gaskets you can't ask for a claim cause those parts tend's to wear out after sometime , you can't ask the owner to change it for you or claim a new one , cause those stuff are meant to be worn after sometime . you as the new owner should have change them before transplanting the engine in .

stuff like oil seal's , brake pads , clutch plates , alternator , compressor , mountings , waterpump , timing belts , idler & tensioner pulley , balanceshaft belts , plugs , o rings , fuel pump , all will wear out after a certain mileage . so you as the new owner should change all those . if you take a gamble like using back those parts , then blame your self if something break down .

i understand your are facing some problem's with the previous owner , but then you should not put the blame on him , cause he also got the stuff from the halfcut shop , and then he took a gamble without changing those parts and now he had sold it off to you , you are aware of the risk and terms & condition . im not on anyones side just that i feel its not right to claim unless both of you had agreed on the terms & condition applied .

erm.. about vestax reply right.. danny i think u mean the vr4 u took from the a kl guy right? i also considerate tat engine b4.. but i loss faith at last.. u should thing tat come in a unreasonable price is weird rite??

Ur car still got problem ah ??? Aiyoh, more than a mth liow i think since i saw it.

long time no see carcass.. my car no problem..

what i mean there is about pricing.. price cheap but won give much things ... just all stock.. but i learn a lesson lah..

next time when wanna buy anything tat is high amount.. get the quatation.. then everything is under the quatation and all condition is stated.. sign from the provider and the receiper .. take it to the peguam firm u know.. get a chop for around 40bug.. then both site also cannnot run.. easy.. :)

who wanna run.. then jsut talk to the judge ler :D

like danny case.. he can just do the quatation or contract and all detial in for 2 copies... call the seller to sign if agree with the condition.. then take to justified... and settle everything.. if seller agree tat is a good condition and agree to responsible for 1 months.. tat he surely can't run d.. :)

but this have to leave to next deal.. pay few thousand for a lesson is still ok what

dkoo im really looking forward to see your car conversion  , since you talk like you have been spending 20k on your car to make it perfect right , so next time yam cha we inspect your car kau kau ?. last time u told me can consider new engine right ?.

fully rebuild engine 4G61 , new compressor , new alternator , new clutch , new belts , new gearbox , 3" pipings , brakes , absorbers , with jpj reg , all for 6k right ?. heheh i doubt that , but we`ll see .

Wah,dkoo it seems you return with plenty of knowledge.Your advise all is very true bai..

Dkoo, last time did you get a lawyer and make a legal agreement with your mechanic? How much will the lawyer fee cost? Dkoo, you must tell everyone bout this too, just the chop pricing not enough ler

Well, later i drop by my friends half cut shop and my mechanic place too. I must quickly tell them to get a lawyer firm liao..

So,VESTY i'm going to get a lawyer now and make a LEGAL AGREEMENT!! If you don't pay your hutang by 1 month time, you get ready your ass to squad in the JAIL la!!! hahahahahahahahahaha

lanjao la you , selling ur rusty rally shocks to me , samore rusty mah , use aready bocor how ?. u are risking my life la fool . and then the sticker stated rally use only , so mean's u cheat me aready mah . tiu ! say street use . how bai how bai , no need to pay la  .

Just give me back the shocks...Thank you..

vestax.. i told alraedy what.. he pull back those kind of offer once my car get into the convertion.. no onverhaul, no engine checking, no new stuff, but piping, jpj , rear diskbreak and new clutch still have lah..

tat is y i say i learn a lesson from here dealing with kl poeple in high amount...
1 things is true tat i really never get the quatation from him... if he give me the quatation with all the words he say in.. i dun think he can runaway :)

actually if u can get a chop.. then can bring to court claim for compensation.. if win.. we dun need to pay any lawyer fees.. that is bear by the loser.. make sure u are right b4 go to the court :)

laern alot lah for this lesson.. hopefully the engine won cause a lot of problem..

next tt we shall meet :D
