Vtec Open

To all sifu of vtec out there...
currently I'm driving the 2001 civic 1.7 vtec....how do I know when the vtec is operated?...I'm flooring the rpm to up to 4-5000 rpm on the highway but I never feel the kicking of vtec...how do I know this???....any place to check whether my vtec is working or not???.....

hope I'll get a good feedback from knowladgeable vtec sifu.....thank you...

Nak dengar Vtec, Exhaust must be loud and pakai open pod air-filter.

new civic ES quite hard to listen to the vtec open sound even using loud exzos... not like those ek or eg running with b series engine...
neway, just try using open pod a/filter. maybe can hear the vtec engage sound....

floor till 6k then u'll know.

fyi, on highway 6k is already 165kmh on 5th gear. so the best is from start u floor it.

2001 civic ES is single cam VTEC right?? i had a friend who used 1996 or 97 standard single cam VTEC + GReddy airinx filter. can hear VTEC screams after ~5500 rpm! exzos standard only in that car.

might be worth a try if youre going for vtec sounds.

thank you guys for the reply, if I change the standard setup for the air filter with the open pod filter, is there any problem with the standard setup and tuning???...I'm worried since there would be a sensor that vary fragile and sensitive....

anyway I try again last night and after rpm exceeding 4000 , I can feel my car is sort of lighter and fast with the 155 kmh....is it the vtec is enggaged then?....

aduh bro... vtec won't open on 4k lar... tekan somemore.... go till 6k then u note the differents between 5-6k, vtec consider open when the sound start roaring

its hard to recognize the sound of vtec kicks in on K series engine.. as the charecteristic of K series is MILD wild B series is WILD. hhehehehhe. but definitely after 5000rpm the power should be there..

Even DC5 or EP3 or Fit Dynamite oso running on K20A series.. the vtec sound is not as loud as DC2 or EK9 but surely the rpm reaches redline within a blink of an eye. Lovely.

sigh....waiting for the vtec to open is like opening a girl's baju after she has been dishing you for the last 6 months, anxious, cold sweat, full of anticipation. When the vtec opens, is like you unloading a full week's load with all the goose bumps!!!

Oklaa... i show u how to feel and hear the sound of vtec from SOHC engine with automatic trans.. if u dare !

First, u find 1 long and empty straigth line...normally toll la easier... than hit ur acc pedal till to the floor or WOT (wide open thrrotle) and watch your rpm meter. dont pull ur fit until ur gear automaticaly shift up. u can feel ur vtec only at 5800 rpm and above.
