Hi All,

Would like to ask honest opinions of whether Type R 421 header or Tanabe 421 header better for B16 engine?

acuralover,
m not familiar w d TANABE...how does it look like?all i know is d Type R has an advantage whc is d 2.5" collector.....does d TANABE has such a large collector?....n price wise.surely d TANABE will b much dearer,right?.....i've used d Type R 421 on my auto EG9...verdict?SUPERB!!!!...........bang-4-buck mod..got it 4 abt RM450 like 3-4yrs back....how much 4 d TANABE?

Even mugen 4-1 copies the ori 4-1 Type R header.. except in 'shiney' form.. :P

In anycase, performance difference may be marginal.. you just pay extra for the 'shininess'

bro akuma...was quoted 300SGD for the tanabe header...no reviews about it though...type R about 200SGD...i guess my heart says type R though....hehehhe

shiro, how u polish ur extractor? i spent 2 week poilishing it but still not shining... damn...

If really teruk, use 300-500 grit to remove those stubborn spots, then use a 1000 grit or higher to remove the scratches... you should use water to reduce the harshness, and you'll actually get a mirror finish. You can use the sandpaper along with autosol (without water) for faster results.. don't be too ganas, or you might rub too much metal off.

After that, wash with soap to remove those chemical stains, or else when the extractor heats up, it will stain on those places that have chemical residue (usually from the autosol) Wash it carefully, as even a bit of chemical/oil will result in those blue tints developing within a few days of use.

Be patient, as it takes quite a bit of work.. I do it one pipe at a time.. much easier to see the results that way.

The result....This is the second stage before final finishing with autosol.. I forgot where I put the original picture (before polishing)... but right now no time (although it sounds like a good way to earn extra money).. sorry hattech.. busy with worklah... unless you're patientlah... then I can spread out the work in two weeks...

This is after it was broken in by use.... now bluish tint because got oil from various places.. I think some came from the dipstick hole.

btw shiroitenshi,is there any increase in hp or torque after u installed dat mugen header??

of course.. but being a 4-1, it only does it for the upper rev ranges.. I bought it since I planned for a B20B down the road.. as most people here would attest, the 421 is the best for B16A. And after installing, I actually ran lean on the upper rev ranges, as the plugs started showing whitish tips. Of course, that was easily remedied with a VAFC, and an adj. fuel regulator. VAFC to reduce the fuel enrichment for the lower rev ranges, the fuel pressure to increase at the upper rev ranges.. the reason being that VAFC cannot enrich too much, as it advances the timing as well due to the way it works by manipulating air pressure voltage, and also the fact that too much fuel would actually make the manifold pressure read positive, which would cause a check engine light to turn on.

Dunno about the rest, but from what I've read from american mags from the old days, the manifold term can actually be used for the intake as well, where they call it the intake manifold, and the exhaust being the exhaust manifold. Ditto for the header term as well.

not very sure though.. it's been quite a while since I heard the term being used for intakes.

Wah someone showing off his Mugen 4-1...

i simply send my extractor to stainless steel shop for polishing...spent less than 50rm to turn the header like a mirror

300SGD for TANABE
200SGD for Type R(421,right?)...
i'd take d TANABE ler....
