hie guys...well..hopefully can get advise and tunjuk ajer from u all here..
well..now my family owns a 1.8 ford lynx tx3 (bugs eye) and a mazda lantis(1.6)..
my dad let me choose one of it..both cars are fine with me..i mean...i like both cars..the thing is can i turbo it (either the tx3or lantis) without swappin engines?
thanks!!

depends, basically u need to find a turbo kits, ecu, injectors, and bla bla bla... but its just like swapping to a new engine... coz u need to find a new block, and a new sets of pistons (low compression). Or else, u will be boosting like 0.3 to 0.4 bar only.

my advice is, go to the chop shop. Ask for B8 engine kosong. Since u got TX3 1.8 engine.

If u have loads of spare cash, BOT can be fun.

But, pls note... u better have the knowledge and know-how to do BOT otherwise, it is a complete waste of money.

Transplant is the easiest way (and also cheapest) to gain power over old engine.

is better u choose the 1.8 ford lynx.. power and gearbox.. u can turbocharge it.. but must running low boost (max 0.5bar).. also u may need at least a piggy back management...

things to do
1) custom turbo manifold & turbo..
2) intercooler, piping...
3) fuel pump, injector,
4) clutch,
5) boost controller, boost meter
6) double gasket ( reduce the compression ratio)
7) management, piggy back or stand alone,

if u intent to boost higher, u need to change engine internal...

what is ur budget? based on budget than u can work out the best way..
cheers

THANKS EVERYONE!!
1) approximately how much is b8 180 and 210 with installation now?
2)for the lynx 1.8(wats the engine model?)
3)urm..lets say my budget is around <4k? too little?

BPT 180 = around 3.5 - 3.8k
BPD 210 = around 5 - 6k
Installation fees = 1.5k (depends)
Wears and tears = 1k (to be on the safe side)

rm4k is too little la bro, seriously. Once converting engine, confirm 7-8k gone edi...

the b8 engine swapping for both car is straight forward job only. but for lantis u may need to source another gearbox that suitable for it because the 1.6 manual gearbox maybe will slip.

so i advice u to take the ford lynx.

ya ur budget is too low already. sometime the engine already cost more than that. if u take the lantis, the suitable gearbox + driveshaft will cost u around 1.5-2k depend to what u get.

sorry off topic here. If mazda 323 to engine (B6t) transplant everything as mentioned above need to cost how much ya? I hv alot thing spoilt in my car (yr 85 car) . need change air cond compressor, disc brake, drive shaft, maybe welding, rubber for the car door, exhaust, 2nd sport rim and etc....

The lantis is a better platform to start with than the lynx tx3 because it has a bigger engine bay.

ya agree with this also. the engine bay for lantis is bigger than the lynx one.
but lantis will has more small problem relate to the window because is frameless.

i also driving a lantis with B8. so far the problem is more on the car body n not the engine.

other problem is quite hard to find a suitable muffler for lantis except custom made one for it or do one senget one.

actually i prefer the lantis..and thinkin of convertin it..
ongdennis..mind tellin me how much it cost u for the installation?
urs is b8 180 or 210?
u got a point there man, my mums lantis window oso got probs...(go above 100kmh can hear like wind masuk..den when wind down the window- i think the mechanism inside like pecah d...) any idea how to settle those probs? my dad went and ask some car shops..they say around 1k per window..i'm like wtf! haha

same dude..my car too..my dad open up the door panel and he told me the 'bush' break d...making the window open 'lazily'..haha

ya..is the bush pecah liao.there are 2 bushs inside there.one is with the power windows. so in case the power window pecah, u need to get the whole power window set around RM120. if the other one spoiled then u need to get the window that cost around RM30.

the car was converted when i bought it.it was 180. like other said, the cost to transplant is around 6-8k depend how much u get the half cut n it condition.for the gearbox it depend to what u take(B6 DOHC, B6T, TX3, lantis 1.8m), cost around 800-2k.u need to find a drive shaft that length is suit lantis chasis also. the best part is to get lantis 1.8m early batch but it cost around 2k (i just change mine during feb 06).

other option is get lantis 2.0 v6 KFZE. power rated 170hp and the halfcut cost around 2.5-3.5k. some of my friend using it and it is a very smooth n powerfull engine :)

SORRY LASERMAN, I TOTALLY DISAGREEE
as the wif the following posts, yeh engine bay is bigger
lots of space for custom made selok belok manifolds and wastegate
for a big A/R housing n turbo.... the BACK will not throw SO early
unlike the lynx...... and generally the lantis looks better HA :P

so howz life? howz laser boy?
