I have driven plenty cars and if anything, the Evo/Rexs are overrated.. all the electro gizmos and AWD tends to pamper and flatter the driver. not much involvement from the DRIVER's seat. And the GTOs.. *yawn
But RWD cars, without tech like AWC, AYC ABS ETC like the FC3S, 993 Carrerra, AE86 rewards DRIVERS. and more involving

Emm, when you establish that a car is overrated, might you also provide what it is rated for.
For example, I agree the Evos are overrated. Many people think they are the best things since sliced bread, which isn't true and therefore overrated. And like faisal pointed out, it isn't the most involving car thanks to all those electronic gismos. BUT, crucially it isn't overrated when it comes to the way it performs, the amount of performance you get for your money and the way it makes ham fisted drivers look good.
Similarly, the AE86 is overrated thanks to all the hype from Initial D. Fanboys automatically think they'll turn into Takumi Fujiwara when they drive one. But it isn't overrated when it comes to its brilliant rear wheel drive chassis.
But you can generally say that these 2 cars are overrated for what they are. Doesn't mean they aren't good. Overrated simply means people take these cars for more than what they are.

okie.....my points on why AE86 was overrated was stated above.....also stressed by thteh86 on the price.....look at the price now for god sake.......don't think it's worth the price. The last I heard was around 40k for a good conditioned 20 years old car....

but Evos.....errrr......no comment; never really liked Evos...ever since Jacky Chan's movie, Evo is like a craze among Asians.....still prefer sooby and still personally (got to stressed on the word personally) felt that sooby is more worth the money than Evos..... no offence to all Evo fans out there; just a personal preferrence.

AE86 is too overated?? maybe too over exposure from drift culture / cartoon series initial D. (then maybe without it there isnt /wont be any spotlight & be forgotten to become a "nearly" car).
BUT todays car enthusiast are a pampered lot. without gizmos it like seaching for info on web without a seach engine. nobody wants to be "real" drivers from the old school. taking part in auto schools/advance driving classes.
Car enthhusiast these days "demands" to be respected from the moment they start gawdzillion HP car rides. They expect the due recognition like what one would adorned rally masters, tommi makinen , Petter Solberg, Sebastien Loeb etc.
cars of the old school dont get enough proper recognition. AE86 isnt overated, it over exposure from the net-baby, arm chair auto enthusiasts .
meet any EVO boys (i'm sorry but 8.5 of 10 drivers i meet thinks they are such a hot-shot driver). They instantly have the opinion even at half pace their cars will smoke you inside out. I have no qualm that their rides with all the gimzos are an awesome ride. but swicth off any of the AYCs & FI their rides are as tame as a saloon car.

just show me any of the chaps (todays auto enhusiast) that clock in hours to hone their driving skills at proper desinated areas.
Honing skill at public roads (streets) is nothing much to shout about (more so of endangering innnocent drivers instead).
car manufacturers these days recognise that majority of drivers in real world arent equiped (blessed) with proper driving skill. So having gismos help to address the handicap. Driving skills arent born; talents are honed at proper driving school.
