I needed some information on what car to buy. In my mind i think i wanted to buy a KE30, but its hard to find. Can anyone suggest a car between the last 70's until the late 80's. I'm a student so that my budget is limited. Around below rm8k.

actually with RM8k budget, u can get like saga, sunny bla bla bla..

try to check out the star paper or motortrader..!

:D

honda civic 2nd Gen, Datsun 120Y or 510 (my project work 4 autoshow),... Toyota KE70 (real ride this one), Daihatsu Charade G10, Protong Saga, and the list goes on...
But my real life advise, get a motorcycle first, it gonna help you thru ur study days, early working years... u can save ur money and later get a handsome car for yourself. Prolly Evo 3 for cash. Lotsa of my friends since college days do that, but now after 4-5 years of working, they can afford Integra DC2 (3/4 of down payment, monthly oni pay bank 200++), one EVO 3 (cash buy after saving alot on study loan and FD acc), and this one's a killer... this friend of mine been using motorbike since before college day until today, but at home... a nicely spiced up Toyota Soarer he bought thru his bro in Japan... for cold RM23k, includding shipping. *sigh*

120y was the most realiable for me becoz of the engine..so heavy duty..since 26 years this car is using by my family n now i using it..but for me not for the performance..but u can only buy it around 1-2k only..

hehehe.. :)
someone mentioned about bike...
so i list down the advantages :
- easy to parking. no need worried no place for parking
- save fuel.. a lot of fuel
- no more traffic jam
- if u like modify, spent around 1k, u get a very very fast bike. wheres on car, u need to spend about 10x more (generally)

anyway.. about car
my vote go for 120y and 130y

btw, can buy one datsun B110 also.. spare parts still easily available

One thing you missed, the chances of getting your self injured is a lot higher when you drive a motor bike.

actually i think equally deadly...

in car accident..
most probably the victim will get trapped in the car
this is really ugly way to die

in bike..
most probably u die because
when accident u get hit by cars or other vhicle...
so if in u get thrown to the side of the road
or u still concious to move off the road
then is ok...

offcourse there r 1001 other ways to die in vehicle accident also...

Well, there's alot of cars to choose from. Well, yesterday i've looked on a mini clubman. The car is a bargain because a pal of mine is selling from merely rm4k. It's running a 1275cc with 2 carbs. I know this column is not a modification section, what kind of engine is suitable to be fitted in? Long time investment you know. ;)

datsun 160J

The 160J SSS saw me through half of college. It is solid, reliable, has an awesome roar, suffient power and rear wheel drive. Cruises comfortably at 120km/h even with rebuilt stock suspension. Once ran for 1000km with almost no black oil and no problems even after that. Only thing to watch out for is the cooling system since it's an old car and can overheat if not taken care of. Also guzzles petrol.

So sad had to let go of it, but was replaced by Wira 1.6 which wasn't half bad either.

2 carbs?. woh...tuning the 2 carbs to match together will kill you. I know...as my friend had a Bluebird with twin carbs. Spent 6 hours!!...still can't tune the carbs to match together.

mini 1275GT is superb for its accelration and leech like handling. imagine a 1.3 engine in ur kancil..and that is the mini. other mini to consider is the 1296GT but this one is even harder to find.

i cant agree more with our fellow frenz suggestion of the 120Y. all basic mechanicals on 4 wheels...u cnt go wrong there.

u get 4 doors sedan = yes
economical and cheap road tax = yes
easy to maintain = yes
* 4 cylinder pushrod engine, nothing to shout about performance. kancil 850 will leave 120Y in its dusts. basic and simple front disc/rear drums setup, FR configuration means u have less things to worry about like worn out drive shaft constant velocity joint.
parts = not so easy, but no need to change body parts unless accident.
handling and comfort = so-so
u can throw in Datsun's C20 1.5litre engine for more power of course.

btw, its best to avoid 120Y B210 as it has only 4 speed gearbox.
better opt for B310 with 5 speed (recognisable from it black bumper design) or B310A (with bigger bumper).

KE70 Corolla is a good alternative. available either in DX (1980) or GL (1982).

u shud consider Mitsubishi Colt Lancer and Honda Civic of early 80s. they are good examples of FWD cars compare to RWD i mentioned. the Colt if can find..has dual range final ratio (like Tredia/Cordia)..meaning u have 8 ratios to play with.

and if u r considering a motorbike..for about 5K register a new Japanese moped (which is a cubchai), get urself a good set of rainjackets and u still arrive early (beating the traffic jams) and still almost dry.

p/s b**ls on the cold side howeverr....

nissan 130y for the timeless look.
toyota ke70 for weekend fun of drft-ing... slap in 4AGE though coz it's naturally a toyota engine...
these cars r fairly long n lack power assisted steering... but both can b compensated with chop shop units. i m using a 130y with modded sentra power steering unit (dont ask me how to mod it coz my mechanic did it for me)...
toyota also can mod power steering but hv to get matching rack set.

they are right, as a student, u can use a bike 1st, then u no need worry about the maintenance that might burnt a hole in ur pocket.. :)
