i need help from all u experts at zth. theres a problem with my steering. most people turn and then release the steering after completing a turn. and once you let go the steering, the steering wheel turns back to its original position by itself. however when i let go my steering, it either doesnt move or moves a bit only. what is the problem here?

turning it i have no troubles at all. the problem is after i let it go it doesnt really move that much

what car are u driving? IMHO, if ur car is big and got no power steering, this thing can happen, and its normal..my beetle steering also didnot return back..

my car is jzx90 toyota mark ii. yes my car is big but it has power steering. i hate having to counter steer all the time la. maybe could be power steering problems? btw i just changed my car's axle.

markii,
Just curious. So far, what have you checked on your car pertaining to this problem? You know, things like power steering fluid.

have not checked anything yet. i just got my car back this evening after my mech changed the rear axle. too dark to do anything. so what are the possibilities? i'll check it out tomorrow
1) power steering fluid

thanks

mark,
just asking... ur car facing this problem recently or long time ago? i think might be the power steeing fluid... btw...real axle nothing to do with turning right? lolz

Some cars have steering that don't self centre that well. Even with more modern cars and their electronic power steering.

If your car never self centred that much originally then that's an inherent thing with the steering on your car. If otherwise, then it could be something that can be fixed.

got check ur tyre chamber???if negative will not turn back...mine is like dat...

tyre camber and toe will affect the steering...

and also the steering TIE ROD which normally cost Rm 50.

in chinese they called it WOH SIONG TAU...Monk Head.

markii,
when u let go ur steering n try to cross over a bump do u c that the steering rotate alot n u feel ur steering vibrating more than usual when u cross any irregular surface...
cos i 'm having the same problem too in addition to ur problem..
cant seem to find the source of the problem.....

memphis_R: nope...no such problems for me
silverfish: my car self centres itself quite well before.only when my mech returned my car i felt it.
doink and typical guy: thanks i'll try to get the tyre chamber checked as well as the tie rod. can be done at any tyre shops right?

hey markii y do u change ur rear axle ?? how much dat cost u ?

bro, check ur stering rack. im sure this solve ur prob. i kena already:_:

yes, saw another forum also saying that it is most likely be your steering rack problem, normally how much to replace this thing?

tyre chamber u are refering to wheel alignment, right??
nope nope... both different thing...
negative camber is something like --> / \
positive camber is like --> \ /
but usually people put neutral camber --> | |

adjust camber is more expensive than adjust allignment... coz adjust camber need to remove the wheel and adjust the bolt connecting the absorber....

i got 2 pieces adjustable chamber i bought 1 for RM60 but then use not long than 1 day only

i sell RM40 for 1 now.....who want?

i lives around OLD KLANG ROAD (Jalan Klang Lama)

change the axle cos was bent after an accident. cost? i dont know yet. not very cheap i can expect. thanks for your suggestions everyone. just got my mech to come take my car back to his workshop for further inspection this morning.
