As you all know ,the first Skyline coupe (KPGC10/KPC10) was nick named 'Hakusuka' which means box Skyline and the GTR32 was given "Godzilla" due to it's dominance at the races. However , two of the lesser known Skylines;

1) KPGC110/KPC110
2) R30

both had nicknames of their own..What are they and why were they called as such?

if i'm not mistaken, with the names, they are under Datsun rite?

........

If I could recalled, long long time ago, the advertisement shown in Japan, its called 'kenmeri' or better known pronounce it as Ken & Mary.

For your information as well, it called so because of the advertisement on KPGC which the male actors' shirt bears the name 'KEN' and the female' bears 'MARY'....

So, everyone's saying KEN&MARY...KEN&MARY...til "KENMERI"......

cheers'

space_cowboy is rite....
The KPGC110 GTR which is called 'KENMERI' is GTR of the phantom by which only 197 units were produced.

In August 1983, RS and RS-Turbo models were facelifted to further differentiate the super sports models from the other GT and TI Skylines in the range. The grille was deleted, and the bonnet now sloped down almost to the front bumper. The headlights were slimmer, and the engine breathed through two narrow slits. The overall appearance of the new RS models caused enthusiasts to nickname the new RS “Iron Mask” or "Te Ka Men", for its distinctive visage.
Am I right .S.K.A.G.E.E.?

Can i interrupt a bit ...

The Nissan Skyline GT-R is an iconic Japanese sports coupe in the Nissan Skyline range. Termed "Godzilla" by Wheels magazine in Australia when released there in 1989, it was rated by many motoring magazines, including the well-respected Wheels, as providing performance and handling equal or superior to that of European icons like the Porsche 911 and the Ferrari 360 Modena, at a considerably lower price.

The Skyline's home-market competitors have included the Honda NSX and Mazda Cosmo.

History of the Brand-----------------------
The Skyline name originated with the Prince automobile company which developed and sold the Skyline line of sedans before merging with Nissan-Datsun. The earliest predecessor of the GT-R, the S54 2000GT-B, came second in its first race in 1964 to the purpose-built Porsche 904GTS race car. The next development of the GT-R, the 2000GT-R, scored 33 victories in the one and a half years it raced and scored 50 by the time it was discontinued in 1972. The last of the original GT-Rs, the KPGC110/PGC110 2000GT-R, used an unchanged S20 160hp inline-6 engine from the earlier 2000GT-R and only sold 197 units. This model was the only GT-R to never participate in a race.

The Skyline model continued through into the 90s when it became popular largely because it remained rear wheel drive, while most other manufacturers' models were front wheel drive (which has certain inherent deficiencies in handling compared to rear-wheel drive). The GT-R version of the Skyline was reintroduced in 1989 after a 16 year hiatus from the Skyline GT-R of the late 1960s. However, the majority of Skylines sold were non-GT-R models, with the GT-R becoming the flagship of Nissan performance.

R33 Skyline GT-RThe GT-R of the 1990s included a potent 2.6 L straight six-cylinder twin-turbo motor (300-330 bhp) and an electronically-controlled all wheel drive drivetrain. The car had also computer-controlled all wheel steering. Its success in motor racing was formidable, particularly in the annual race at the Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst, Australia, where the champion three years running was a GT-R (despite receiving additional weight penalties in years two and three due to its unbeatable performance) and in the Japanese GT series where it has remained dominant up to the present day. the GT-R's success at Mount Panorama led to turbos and four-wheel-drive cars being banned in subsequent years and the creation of the JGTC series in Japan (where GT-Rs can only compete in RWD form, and still win). I Like This Sentence !!

The Skyline is also a popular car for drag racing in Japan and the import racing scene in Australia, New Zealand, and the USA where Skyline GT-Rs are often modified and tuned to produce upwards of 1000 bhp (750 kW). They are a popular target for such modification due to the amazing strength of the RB26DETT engine, (common to all GT-Rs), widely considered one of the most durable motors when heavily modified.

Twin-Turbo inline-six cylinder DOHC motor (RB26DETT) from an R32 Skyline GTRSkylines of the 90s progressed from the R32 (1989), through to the R34 (2000) Production of the GT-R ceased in August, 2002 with the release of the V35 Skyline platform (sold as the Infiniti G35 in the United States) which includes only non-GT-R models. Before the final R34 Skyline GT-R was sold, various packages and special editions such as the V-Spec, containing additional performance-enhancing modifications, were released by Nissan and the performance division of Nissan, Nismo.

In Janurary 14th, 2005, Nismo resurrected the R34 GT-R for one last tour of duty before the introduction of the anticipated next generation GT-R. Labeled as the R34 Z-tune, the Nismo engineers spent no expense into making this car the most powerful GT-R ever created. With much technology borrowed from the GT500 Racing GT-Rs, the Z-tune boasts a 2.8 litre twin turbo instead of the stock 2.6 litre engine, racing pistons, conrods and camshaft, and a upgraded ECU gives the Z-tune 500 horses and 540 Nm of torque. The car became affectionally known as the "Mother of all GT-Rs" and is expected to carry a price tag of $170,000 US dollars. Nismo has stated that this car will be a limited run edition, and only 20 will ever be made and sold.

Future of the Skyline GT-R-------------------------------
The next GT-R model will be produced as a 2008 model in the year 2007; it will be separated from the "Skyline" nameplate, and for the first time, a left-hand-drive version will be offered. The long arrival date is due to Nissan engineers focusing on mainstream car models. It will have to overcome many new, stringent emissions laws in Japan. Nissan may export the next GT-R to North America as an Infiniti.

I do not think it got it's nickname 'Godzilla' from an Australian mag. I think it was given the nickname because of it's dominance on the track at that time. Nissan re-introduced the GT-R model in 1989 to compete in the JTC (Japan Touring Car) Group A racing series. Continuing the winning ways of its predecessors, the GT-R was undefeated in its first season. For four years running the GT-R won the championship in the JTC Group A series, a crushing record of 29 wins out of 29 races. Because of its invincibility, the Skyline was given its own series in 1994 the JGTC, (Japan GT car) series.

Oh, *laughs* .S.K.A.G.E.E. has already mentioned it in his topic starter. Have a look....

Have a good one... ;)

good info! :D I like it!

but i'm a bit confused in this part -->

The next GT-R model will be produced as a 2008 model in the year 2007; it will be separated from the "Skyline" nameplate, and for the first time, a left-hand-drive version will be offered. The long arrival date is due to Nissan engineers focusing on mainstream car models. It will have to overcome many new, stringent emissions laws in Japan. does it mean that they wont use the SKYLINE nameplate anymore? :o

could be .. actually the article from international formal website .. it cant be fake anyway .. u can see the model skyline after r34 .. not nice worr .. spoilt the reputation of skyline family .. they discontinue the read round light tradition.. i think more suitable for infiniti models

yes .. ure rite .. they proposed this body before but not approved by nissan boards for r35 version .. the current r35 skyline (NOT GT-R) is no more round tradition light ... but some kinda diamond view evo style lights ... powered by VQ30DE im not sure about the turbo version ...

Hi BudakLembuAngkasa(Spacecowboy)

The picture you posted is actually a KHGC210. One of the first turbocharged Skylines though other variation of the L series engines are available. This car was also imported officially here in Malaysia as you could still see quiet a few four door examples on the road. However the name Skyline was dropped when in arrived here and was simply called the K series..ie 180K..240K etc

As mentioned by Darkchild; The KPGC110 only ran a limited amount of 197 units and I was told that less than 190 were actually road registered. Definately making this car extremely rare. However the KGC110 model did sell well and and makes up the bulk of the C110 series in the market now.

Darkchild: I believe the nickname Godzilla was actually coined by the Austrialian media after the GTR's dominace in the famous Bathrus race.

Sakuraguy: Though I don't agree, I wouldn't be suprise if the don't use the "skyline name plate " and produce them as two separate models as we could already see that in Toyota with its Celica and Supra ( where once they were produced as a Celica Supra)

Farique: Hi, nice picture of the concept GTR. I'm afraid its offical that Nissan won't be producing them in that guise. It was actually a clever marketing ploy by Renault/Nissan to 1) Distract the die hard fan attention of the discontinuing of the RB26 engine( more on this later) 2) To keep the public interested as they won't be producing a GTR till the next generation V36 ( even that isn't confirm)

Good job guys!! I guess the #2 question is much more easier than the #1 as it still haven't been answered yet..anyway would anyone would like to eloborate further on the "Iron Mask" nickname given to the R30 series? Hint: Its a TV show...
