Hi guys,

I am considering a set of rims with the following specs :

16" x 5 hole
PCD : 114.3
Offset : Front 33 & rear 38.

I think the previous owner use it for drifting in Japan.

Ok, my car's spec :
- 5 lug
- PCD 114.3
- Offset 35 - 42

Question : Can the rims above fit into my car ? Actually, I do not see a problem with the rear but I am particularly worried about the front. The rims offset is 33+ but my car specs is ranging from 35 - 42

Can the front be fitted in ? Can the use of a spacer helps ?

Appreciate all you advise. Thank you in advance.

I dont think you can use FR rims on FF cars....

most FR cars are on a staggered setup.....

Thanks for your reply Eddie.

Can you elaborate a little on "staggered" setup ?

FR cars normally run wider rear tyres for handling purposes....

thus this relates to staggering, a term used for FR tyres setup

eg. 225/18/40 front.....255/18/35 rear....

the rear rims are wider...... :)

if i am not mistaken, the tyre size for that set is 205-50-16 for all 4 tyres. Only different is the offsets of the front & rear rims, for which the front is 33+ (bigger offset ?) and rear is 38 .

aiya, sifu say wat mar listen and keep quiet only lo... :P joking only la, erm, different offset, same tyres, wat's wrong with that, just that u might find that the rear wheels are slightly wider, and u might feel uncomfortable with that. Just my 2 cents

it shld be the other way around....38 in front and 33 behind.....deeper dish behind....

what the diameter of the rims....check the ones with offset 33, they shld be wider if i am not wrong....

a classic example....check out the "deep dish" at the rear

OK, will check it out soon.

Thanks for the advise dude. Appreciate.

Agree with eddie.. should be the one with smaller offset at the back or else it will look darn weird.. and check the width of the rims also..

i think alot of people get the wrong impression on the offset figures.. i'm also like that ones until somebody enlighten me up last time..

If both pairs are of the same width,
use 5mm space for +38, & put them in front.

Guys, thanks for your feedbacks. Appreciate that.

But, I am getting a little confused ....... when u mentioned smaller offsets, are you referring to offset 38 or 33 ?

From what I understand after my discussion with a tyre shop owner yesterday, he told me that offset 33 means the tyres would be inside the fender. The only worry is, it will touch the brakes calipers or disc. He suggested to me to test it out first, means put in the rims and see whether it will touch anything. If not touching, then it is perfectly fine for use.

He asked me not to worry too much on the offset as it is just 2 size "smaller" that the spec (35-42 offset), so the difference is really very small.

Regarding the back, it won't be a problem, as for FF cars, the only concern is the front wheel...

Another point the tyre shop guy added was, try not to use spacers. He explained that the surface of the spacers are not refined, therefore it is not perfectly flat. This means that it would coz the steering wheel to wobble....

Not sure about that though....

Offset has nothing to do with brake caliper clearance. The design of the spoke does. Offset only determine the distance from rim centreline to wheel hub.

+38 compared to +33 :
+38 will be 5mmm more toward inner of the arch
that's why , put 5mm spacer on +38 & put then in front ( if both same width )
Try to use aftermarket rims with offset as close as the factory spec for suspension geometry reasons.

Read more, know more .Do a search. It's good to know ... ( Astro's advert :D:D )

yup, doing some research now on the net.

Thanks !

True, using spacer is not always the best case. Getting the same wheel offset for FF is always the best.
Anyhow, get a good spacer should give you no problem. Don't get the balakong home made ones lah. :p

thanks again CRX.

Just in case, where can I get reliable spacers (branded) and normally how much does it costs ? Tot of getting more info before purchasing.

Offset has nothing to do with brake caliper clearance? Then why does GTR have smaller offset wheels? maybe to clear the brembo? no? same case for wrx that have brembo... they need smaller offset wheels to clear brembo.

hmm..in that case, why does following a manufacterer spec offset is important ?

Does it affect car handling ? I guess if the offset ran a little out of the ori spec, it should be ok right ? What kind of test should I conduct to see whether the rims are ok for my use ?

Sorry for asking so much, but I just to need be informed and sure before I made the purchase.

offset is only the distance measurement from rim center line to the rim rear face hub i.e. wether you rim stick out or stick out from the fender for ease. If for diff offset rims, but they maintain the design spoke and more importantly how the spoke 'come out' for the wheel from the hub , the clearance for brake remain the same for diff offset.
there are many pages that discuss offset on the web. Do a search. Hard to explain without diagrams. Better to stick closely to the original specs due to handling charateristics etc etc . Slight difference OK.

Just went to see the rims again...

OK, I have the full specs of the said rims :

1 pair (16 x 8.0JJ) offset 38+ with tyre size 205-55-16
1 pair (16 x 7.0JJ) offset 33+ with tyre size 205-55-16

My car offset : 35 - 45

What say you all ?

Reason I asked so many questions is because I really like the rims and it is selling at a good price. Good news is, I am allowed to try it on my car before confirm buying. If not ngam, then no need to buy .... :)
