Really need help on SQ set up!

Hi all ICE sifu out there! I have a budget of RM2.3k for front component + amp. For the front component I planning to put in the Focal Polyglass 165v2, for amp, I'm not so sure yet, but the shop recommend me a Mohawk 800 Watts 2 channel amp to drive my speakers. What do you think about this set up? I listen mostly to songs like John Mayor, Jazz, circullar music, and once in awhile Black Eyed Peas, and some rock music, so nice bass response from my system will also be nice! Should I put in a 12" Sub also? If yes what kind of Sub do you recommend best for SQ? Please help...

which the fxxking shop recommend U....Focal comp to pair with Mohawk amp.... this fxxking shop try to sotong U laaa.... try contact Xsi... he has Alpine MRV-F540 to let go at RM1K ..this amp much much better than Mohawk... Focal 165V2 (Polyglass series) leak of bass ... I think U should find other brand like RS, DLS, Focal (Utopia series)

SQ quality setup

I see from u budget,i can recomemce u install Focal polyglass 165v2 + audio system 4 channel amp + 12" woofer(2ch to comp & 2ch to 12" woofer).If u put in Mohawk 2 channel can't playing for 12" subwoofer not enough power(can say no power going to the woofer).
If u change to RS,DLS...... the brand hanv't take the champion in international before but the Focal got.This is my suggetion for u ref.

anyway u should look for warmer amps to suit your focals, like audison, steg, audio system, sinfoni, etc..

being on a tight budget maybe can fit a sub into it, but u should look at some 2nd hand items. get a 4ch amp straight away so u can power your sub together.

I think you should do more research on SQ competition organized by IASCA & AMMA laa bro... either in Malaysia, Asia, Europe or US..... before U make any comment... Don't show to us how liitle your knowledge about SQ world.... so sad....

Hmmm... addition... didn't Scott Buwalda was using DLS for his winning Nissan for "Best of the Best" and Derek with his RS sub in Singapore?

Really if you're in tight budget, I think the Audio System F4 would suit you. What HU are you running by the way?

Oh ya... 12"... look for good 10" saves more space and yet it still bites IMO

Laters news Alpine MRV-F540 sale has been cancelled by Xsi... If U love Focal hopefully U change to 165W or K2P series.... I'm using Focal before... I bought it without pxo... for Mid AudioM 6W cost RM980 each & Tweeter TN51 cost RM450 each... total RM2860... Now keep it in store room after 1yrs use it... afew thing U must bare in your mind... Focal need warm amp (cost >1.8K), RCA (>RM200 depend on length) & Speaker Cable (>RM8/ft) made from copper not mixed 1... if we used mix 1 the sound very sharpies... For me I will try to get good e/cross, amp, speaker & rca cable first.. in the future upgrade no need to change it...

Why can not aaa... If U compared Polyglass Vs Rs Pro/DLS Ultimate sure can not laa bro... Polyglass is entry level for me.. just slightly better than Acess series... Rs & DLS also have entry level for beginner... just compared it at same level laa.. performance vs price tag... I already use Focal/Rs/DLS/Vifa & I know which part are good & bad... I not just compared based on reading magazine but I bought it & put it into my car....

perhaps u should read Car Audio & Electronics magazine as a start....

anyway no use comparing to what is used in competition as usually they are all high end stuff, some are prototype and some are highly modified, unavailable in your local retail store. also dont forget, tuning & installation is the second half of the story, not just equipment. at the end of the day, it cant fit in our friend's budget.....

Wah. So many helpful comments!!! thank u thank u everyone!! Today I went to CV Audio to talk to the boss, damn he is good and experienced man in what he is doing, very friendly too! Never treat me like some small boy as though I have no money and simply walk in to waste his time! Anyway he say Focal 165v2 is not for my type of music genre, the tweeters are too bright, unless I aways listen to vocals songs. So probably I'm going for either Eton comp set or Alpine type X...:regular_smile:

That what I said earlier... V2 Mid lack of bass... not suitable for R&B, Rock, Dance & Fast song... but if your music more to Country, Jazz & Ballad.. U can take it... I noticed someone in mchf/gr8Tunes selling his 6 months old RS pro for <RM1.5K... I think U should consider this stuff... I know your budget to tight for this moment... but if you play ICE vs Budget.. U will lose alot of money & time in the future... Hopefully U can do more survey to others shop also... I did not said CV, Eton or Type X is not good (place & model)....

whats up with this product bashing nonsense? Yes speaker A is better then speaker B but there are no bad speaker, its all up to preferences. So what if someone pair his Focal with a Mohawk amp as long as he is happy about it.

I wonder why everyone mention Focal for SQ. There's lot of component which are very good with SQ setup with less the price. Yes Focal tweets are kinna bright, thats why you need tuning to balance out with the mids.

Why dont you consider other brands than Focal. What about the CDT HD, Alpine SPX 177A, Adire Koda or the Diamond D3 ro D6 series?

Try to find those component which has a dedicated mid bass. Rock songs has lots of kick drums, Jazz music has lots of vocal and guitar details.

Focal is the best, Focal is the only comp for SQ. Others can throw.... For me for budget 2.3k is better I look for some other brands. If really survey more, for this budget can almost get a complete set with sub already. Is it really have invest(waste) 1-2k for a speaker then only considered as good SQ?

Sorry brother, any speakers that cost more than 500 I will not see nor will do research on it. As that is considered as wasting money, my ears is human ears, not machine or dog ears, so cannot diff between 1hz or 3hz.
