im a still studying and considering to get myself a car. im thinking of a proton putra, since it has sleek design and sporty look (im still in my teens). Do u people think i've made a wise decision. i need a car that's reliable, low fuel comsumption, low maintainance, and affordable price(im still a student). yet with a sporty teeny(not too grandpa look).

p/s: to putra owners, how's the fuel comsumption?

thanks

my fren told me that the 4g93p engine has bad fuel consumption. But his car is wira so i dunno. That's wat he said to me la

Dude, you wanna get good fuel consumption but good looks, I suggest you get the Kelisa SE.. it's fuel consumption is fantastic cuz it's a DOHC, small and light car. Not only that, when you tekan.. it really moves especially the manual. Not to mention the body kit and seats are quite nice too. Parts are cheap and servicing even cheaper. Whats more you can go join the K2OC (sorry if I got your name wrong) club and zoom around with other Kelisa enthusiasts.

Putra is famous for lots of different problems. Since you're talking about putra. it's most likely you'll be getting a 2nd hand one. It'll totally depend on your luck or if you have a trustable mechanic friend to help you check out the car. The 1st batch of Putra's were famous for roof leaks and power window problems. Other niggling problems included high wear and tear on bearings and bushes, 4G93 engine means you'll be flying a lot.. since with all powerful engines comes a heavy foot.. hehehhe..

anyway, the Putra is a entry level car enthusiasts car.. so unless you got money to be enthusiastic about, I don't really recommend you getting the Putra since you're a student and all.

If you really wanna have good fuel consumption and low maintenance, get a brand new car and preferably one that doesn't come with farking heavy 16" JRD rims on a 1.5L engine *@!#(*!@%(!&(@*#!!!!! *Ahem*.. that's the Wira SE I'm talking about.

Oh.. perhaps you can consider the Satria 1.5 SE.. and 1st thing you do is change the rims to 15" size.. sure good fuel consumption and sure sporty look because of the body kit.

My 2 cents :)

i also considered putra as my first choice of car when my dad asked me what car i want, but come to think about it, isnt it a lil too old now? get something newer like a GTi or something, if im not mistaken putra is abt 1997? correct me if im wrong.

just my opinion

The newest Putras would be the gray coloured batch, i think year 2000. Anyway, been driving a Putra since 1999 till now and i must say i am very satisfied with it. No major problems with it and petrol costs are cheaper than a Waja (would you believe it). Full tank costs me around RM45 to RM50 and mileage for a full tank on good days can reach up to 430km but usually its around 330-350km (i'm using 16" Gti rims, HKS filter and SAFC2). Maintenance cost is relatively low. The only major problems i had with it was the cooling coil for the aircon burst one time (stupid air con mechanic who used too strong stuff to clean the coil, so caused corrosion), oil leaks due to the worn out gasket at the drive shaft, clutch pump leak and also a worn out wheel bearing. Still love my Putra lots.... :)

One word. The fuel consumption is terrible. Own one year 97 back at year 2000.
Modified, got stolen, found, and sold off.

i dont really like satria. i dont know why. gti? too expensive.. preferbally looking for something less than 50K..hoping. i dont think kelisa fit my style. its too small for me. but i still like it if u convert to cuore. if im still getting a putra, should i get the 97' model or 00' model. there's a big diff in price. what is the market price for this both model. anyways, if im buying from someone i can send it too AAM to make a checkup right? they'll do it for a small fee. i think. what problem does the putra usually suffer from?

anyone would recommend another car for me? (cheap, low fuel comp, low maintainance)

KENA CURI LA! IF U R BAD LUCK THAT TIME!
whatever alarm also no point..
Why? stock orignal with Momo steering, Recaro Seat, Nice meter...etc..
Next, getting a nice/original stock putra is quite hard, as most are stolen car.. so dont surprise if you see 2nd hand putra selling with wira steering, different version of recaro seat.....

Good luck in ur car shopping

i would recommend the kelisa s.e :P 1st bcos of it's fuel consumption is unbeliveable!!!! and yep it really have power that will satisfy you...hehe seriously it just rm40k and it's worth it la bro~

my experience with my new kelisa s.e is cornering is great! fuel consumption is great ! power is great ! i do feel like the car still continue speeding even though i have fully depressed the accelerator :P the only bad side about it is when u r braking and want to continue with the current gear you will feel damn slow..have to drop gear la..if not you will feel the underpower came in <_<

yaya...get a kelisa since u wan good fc,reasonable price n i the driving feeling is way better than many cars out there..

the iswaras are damn cheap to maintain & low fuel consumption....or the wira 1.5 is also fine......the honda civic 1.5/1.6 EX (1987-1992) model is a very good car.....the Corolla 1.3/1.5 SE limited (1988-1991) is also very good........the sentra 1.5 manual/auto (1987-1989) is a damn good car........if i were you then i would just buy the sentra (1st generation) which i have mentioned here & add some bodykits & lower the car & use 15" rims.....hey it will look 100 times better than a putra.

Below 50k... get a fully modded VTEC Civic EF, muahahaha. But habis la maintenance.

I was in the same position as you, bought a GTi and have never regretted it... other than not searching thoroughly for a better unit. My car was plagued with certain problems, especially since it came with an exedy competition clutch (Many people have been damaging my gearbox, including me during the learning and getting used to period).

A fair 1999-2000 Mitsu ECU (Tis' important) model should cost between 42-46k depending on accessories.

well seems these days Gti are more popular amongst the car thieves. As for the Recaro seats, different versions is due to the fabric material used in the recaro for Putra. The black cloth for the rear seats always wear out and tear wan. I had to re-wrap mine too. Same goes for the Momo steering, due to the sun and heat, the leather on top part of the my steering also wearing out. But glad to say, mine is still with its stock seats and steering wheel and gear knob.

i'm using putra too, mine using EVO2 engine.if u want a fast car, fuel is not a big deal.if u want low cosumption just use motor kapchai la... or use basikal also can...hahahaha.....

Putra is a unique and beautiful coupe. But if you want fuel consumption? Downgrade to 4G15 lorr

yesh.. gti is quite stylish too.. but i heard that newer model of gtis got speed limiter? i like the handling of gti.. very fun. ermm.. im soo indecisive. all the cars are almost the same in terms of price? how bout road tax? kelisa is quite small issnt it? in terms of size?

All Proton cars got speed limiter actually; the tree, Armco, truck, bus that you ram into!

Problem with newer GTis is that the electronics are more tuned for environment. And that means less power :(

not all 4g15 are very good fuel consumption. my car was brought frm 2nd hand n my previous engine 4g15 damn giler makan minyak n burn black oil untill i become very du-lan then i only change another engine.

bsides, 2 of my fren currently drivin 4g15 oso. 1 is ok. he said Rm 50 can goes about 350-370km (car brought in yr 1999) but another 1..... rm50 oni can goes 280-310 km, air filter n trottle always occur prob eg. rpm meter like already installed high cam. sometimes 1.6k rpm sometimes 500 rpm....n somemore his car is brought in yr2000 oso...... always complain to us his car maintainance cuz him penin kepala la n that la.....
