Hi guys, newbie here...had problems with my Proton Wira engine overheating so took it to a workshop this morning. After fiddling around with the car and testing it the foreman said that the fan was not turning, so he fixed it. Took it home and realized that when idle the temperature rose slightly above mid-point. Took it back to the foreman and told him about it and he said that it's normal, once the fan turns on the temperature will then go back down to normal, but i told him that before this the temperature was always constant and not fluctuating like it is now.

Don't know what is wrong with radiator, the temperature still rises when the car is idle, and only goes down when the fan turns on. It cannot be normal when the temperature fluctuates like this...right? I would appreciate help from you guys...thanks.

That is what i am afraid of... :(

if u crusing ur car at 100km/h and the temp os over limit than ur normal temp....that ur head gasket go..... better go ask any ur fren or nice mechanic to cheack it out..

The problem is when i am driving the temp is normal, it only rises when the car is not moving.

emmm maybe go wash ur radiator sumbat dy or cheack ur fan... maybe fan no turn fast enough....

try checking ur engine fan and ur radiator and ur water pump..usually temp go high it is becus of these few probs..hope it helps..
my gfs wira encounter this prob b4, firstly was the engine fan not werking, den later on facing the same prob, temp go up, so check and check , at last found out that the water pump is leaking making the radiator dry = temp hot

Maybe modify the fan to operate non stop might help. :P Flush your coolant also. :)

the simplest way, thow out your thermostat... end story
confirm ur prob settle...

one solution...
flush your radiator.check for rust water.if got..ask your foreman to clean the internals...he will know how.no need to dismantle engine.bring the radiator for service.take out the thermostat.you wont need it here in malaysia.mod the fan with a better fan like those from honda.will be a bit noisy but the car stays in a very cool temperature.finally use a better trusted coolant...i did all that...whola.my car is performing better because the temperature mark is around 2cm lower than you can see at another stock car.the car feels more powerful...slightly only...but better than nothing...

making the fan operate non stop will make the fan lifespan shorter..
if still hot den mod it to benz engine fan..big enuf

my fren's proton wira SE got a cracked water pump juz after 3 days from collecting his car from the dealer, bought new car
so maybe u might wanna check tht

Thanks for all the input guys, will check out the fan first then go on to the next stuff that you guys hve said...thanks a lot.

Throw away the engine and get a new one la hahaha
Have u got it solved at EON?
Most important, don't throw away your thermostat, it'll solve your problem in short, but will gradually kill your engine head.

ur fan working or not? maybe ur temp sensor already kong or ur fan switch kong.... try to throw out ur thermostat, proton temp sensor always kong laa, ur engine oil is it full ?

i truly agree with KE2020, do not remove ur car's thermostat! it has its own function to maintain water temperature at 82 degrees (most optimum).

it problem occurs only during stationary i suspect something to do with water flow or cooling system. fan may operate ocassionally, maybe poor earth contact, motor or relay. check also water temp sensor, this supplies input to activate the fan.

2ndly, maybe water flow is not good. when engine is cold, open radiator cap. if look rusty inside, there are high chances that the radiator is clogged as well as the entire system. send ur car to radiator service shop. the charges around RM40. change the radiator hoses also if necessary. the hose must be soft and flexible. if its hard, means it has hardened and may crack at any time. change radiator cap if rusty. make sure max pressure stated is correct. it can be 0.9 bar or 1.1 bar.

if radiator already clogged, there are chances that rust has 'infected' the water pump. this may caused leak. water pump leak symptom is easy...they only leak during cold. upon hot temperature, water pump will expand (bcoz made of metal) and there will be very little leak.

hope this helps...happy motoring.

thermostat is use to warm up ur engine....if thermostat mulfunction.. this will cause overheat to engine due to thermostat valve have been block and the hot water in the block area was unable flow to radiator for cooling... malaysia dun need themorstat as like any other cool country cause malaysia is a hot country ...engine will warm up quicker than other country with cooler weather...
correct me if 1 were wrong ok... :D

The thermostat is definitely needed. It is to maintain your engine at an optimum temp. Engine will funstion at it's best with specific temperature, espescially EFI engine, when the engine is cold, the ECU will inject more fuel to warm up the engine, same as auto choke carbie. So imagine your fuel consumption.

Another thing is when crusing on the highway in the night, raining somemore, your radiator will be very cold, and it won't operate at optimum temp.

And this cold and warm condition will cause your head and block to warp too if severe.
