My Ek 3 Got Problem ! Help Please

Hi all,

I own a civic e-ek 3 vi , 3 stage vtec with multimatic gearbox. My problem is when my car is running, the "D" indicator on the dash board is keep blinking !!!! and the "CHECK" LED also light on! My car speedometer (wish i spell it correctly) is not function anymore, which mean it is always at "ZERO" . I also can felt that the engine's RPM is also not stable... especiallly during IDLE, the RPM will goes from 800 RPM to 1,500 RPM then drop to 800 RPM again and goes up to 1,500 RPM again, this happen although i am not press on the accelator's pedal.

The problem actually happen on the speedometer first (yesterday night), then follow by the "D" lligh blinking and "CHECK " light is on also (This morning).

Anyone has idea about what is wrong with my car ? Thank you very much

im foreman here..modify car 1...my opinion bout ur car is convert to a new half cut..u noe why?cause u waste ur money only if u repair back it own engine...ur gearbox and ur engine got problem,wiyering oso...or u can call me directly and if u wan u can see or refer to our EK 9...type r or V-Tec oso got...so see u soon...016-6000682

RPM FLUCTUATE - THROTTLE BODY SENSOR LOOSE OR DAMAGED

"D" INDICATOR BLINKING - SHOULD BE GEARBOX SENSOR LOOSE OR DAMAGED. NO SIGNAL RECEIVE BY THE ECU THATS WHY UR "D" INDICATOR BLINKING.

GO N ASK UR PRO MECHANIC TO FIX IT URGENTLY. :)

Hi,

Thanks for everyone reply. I dont think the damage is so serious until i have to swap a new engine and gear box. Although i really like B16A , B18C :) Tomorrrow will bring it to Honda Service Centre to see doctor :) . Hopefully is small problem lah..

If it is sensor problem, how much will it cost ? Which honda service centre is better ? Thanks

One good thing about the Honda CHECK light is that it will tell you where exactly is the problem and you can start tracing from there. I suggest you take your car to a Honda workshop (doesnt have to be official service center) and have them diagnose it.

The CHECK light has en error code which most Honda mechanics will be able to interpret. What they do is 'short' certain ECU wires and the CHECK light will start blinking. It will blink differently for each error that the CHECK light can detect. Just add up the amount of blinks and you will know where to start looking for the problem. One long blink is (5) and one short blink is (1). So for instance if you get two long blinks and two short blinks, it will be 5+5+1+1=12. Then refer to the Honda error code listing and see what does the error code correspond to.

let me share my experience with u...
last time i oso got similar problem like u...
one thing, if ur speedometer is not running, the check engine light will on...
last time i oso changed the speed sensor and it cost me RM240 for the sensor.. but still cannot solve the problem..
then i went to HSC and they simply said that just put 2 grounding wire and problem solved... the fluctuate rpm oso become ok...

thats my case...

p/s: ground wire at HSC will cost u RM70 for just 2 piece of wire... :lol:

it happen to me...just grounding wire from battery to not ground properly.
so check all your ground wires...good luck

Hi all,

Finally i have the problem solve. The problem is caused by failure of SPEED Sensor. This is the whole story :

I went to Honda Service Centre at Old Klang Road, and wait from 10 AM till 3 PM. Result is Speed Sensor fail, but they have no stock available. They also said this type of EK 3 is imported onea and it is hard to find the sensor . They quoted the sensor price will be about RM 300 ++ but below RM 350. Then, service charge RM 65 and they will contact me once the stock is available :) so funny man....

I dont wish to wait for it and now i am start looking for kedai potong around old klang road. This is the first timei hunt for kedai potong :) . Nevertheless, i went to a shop that is specialist in Honda and he said
he has stock for it !! I am so surprised with it !! He tell me the price for new sensor is about RM 260 including labour. He is nice guy lah.. i also request him to find second hand one for me. Immediately he call and the price is about RM 150. In my mind, i think at least now i have a solution. But i am still want to
look for better price at those kedai potong.

End up i went to two kedai potong and looking around.. but they dont have the sensor for EK. I decided to go back to the workshop that claim to be "Honda Specialist "(i forgot the shop name) . I decided to go for new sensor instead of old one, since the price is about RM 110 different.. I dont want to get any trouble. Ok, new sensor installed and problem solved :) . My car is back to normal already.

Other than that, my car also give "klok klok klok" noise when crossing those bad road surface. The guy said my car's upper arm, and soem other arm (i dont know what is it..) change the necessary thing, guarantee no sound and it will cause me RM 500 + . Is this price consider ok ?


Another thing is oild change service which comprise of "Honda Genuine Engine oil VTEC LEV + original oil filter" is about RM 80. Is that worth for the oil change service ?? Need advise here,.

If you're asking if its worth the money, I would say its look like an OK price given the the engine oil is infact Honda's. Motul engine oils are selling for like RM100+ for the good ones.

Thanks and so far my car is running well. May i know what car are you driving ? i am driving ek 3 , stay at OUG.

What type of engine oil do you use ? do you use original honda oil filter ? Normally how much they charge you ?
