Previously was my fc problem... Now that I got it fixed... I notice that my engine looses engine oil too fast. It's just about 4000+km since the last service and my engine oil is dry. I even added a little bit more few days ago but today I have to add again. What the hell is wrong with this engine?

I got no white smoke out of the exhaust and no leaking at all. All running fine. As the engine is about 12 years, my mechanic advised me to use mineral/thicker oil. I tried just now and the engine was damn sluggish. Pick-up is severed and I find it hard to pull to the redline. It now shift at around 5+k rpm unless I floor the throttle. Previously, it can hit redline with just 7/10 throttle when I was using semi synthetic. And with such a sluggish response, I bet the FC will increase if I use this mineral oil.

Anbody got the same problem here? It is just a standard 4AFE in a 96/97 Toyota Corolla AE111.

Please share your opinions, thank you sifus!

From what you said..I think there surely must be a leak some where. Lubricant don't burnt out that fast even if you have a blown piston ring..:burnout:

just to share from my last trip last week from KB to JB.

after around 3k milage driving, found the lubricant is slightly decrease - below min level.

i'm also confused bcoz my engine just done full overhaul last month.

is this just normal behavior after running a long distance driving?

(corolla y96 ae111, engine 4afe all standard item)

what is the different between long distance travel vs accumulation of daily short distance :hmmmm:? since you just done top overhaul last month, bring your car back to the mechanic and let him check.

veloc,
try open your engine oil cover and see got white smoke or not after car running for sometime. then try to check at the spark plugs whether oily or not. usually this is due to valve seals worn out since no white smoke from exhaust. any taiko can confirm this?

I agree with all of the above. Check under your car for leak marks, especially after it was driven n parked for a long time.

If ur driving a manual, there's an oil seal in the clutch area. (pls correct me if i'm wrong)

all the best!

last time..same issue with me..after repair..problem still come...decide to change to BLACKTOP & used for 3years without problem (maintain only) but the problem is..myself (upgrade here & there)..then last year..rebuild again and run until now without problem...

p/s: got one complete engine, wiring, auto gearbox for sale..cheap..cheap...he he he

haha...nappx is bringing on the 4age poison :P

bro veloc, sorry to hear this state of your engine but i think its best you get a reputable mechanic to check for leaking seals...

fyi , intake valve seal leak - less or little blue smoke / some time hard to notice depend on engine oil brand.
exhaust valve seal leak white smoke

like mine last time..
change to blacktop engine ler... powerrrrr..he he he
if bt engine keep stock & maintain regularly..sure better then 4afe..

p/s: i got bt auto engine...complete...cheap..want clear w/s..mech request due to space

Its very tempting to change to 4AGE since kena bakar by bro nappx..:elefant:

But since you'd just gotten your AE111 with stock 4AFE engine not too long ago, it is worth to take a look at the valve seals as suggested by bro LevinTE27..who knows, after fixing this problem you too will have many years of ride enjoyment..haha:biggrin:

Cheerz

only consider 4age if your prob still exists after first overhaul or some issues which aint worth the investment for eg. change this and that... overhaul this and that which might reach 2-3k depending on workshop. if ur bill might reach ~3k, then consider topping up a bit more and get a 4age be it svt or bt. well, i'll leave it to u to do the maths.

I just want to add that if your plug cable rubber cap has worn out, engine oil can come out from the top and dry up because of the heat from the block and extractor.. there'll be barely any stains.. check that too.. :)

Thank you people for your opinions...

Oil seals, maybe not... Coz when i bought the car, the seals have worn out so I replaced the cam cover and camshaft oil seals as well as timing belt... Whole set about RM300 =.=

Oh ya... The other days when the indicator appeared almost dry, I just top up one litre of oil and straight away it went up to a little bit more than half level. Sot... One litre of engine oil so much?

Haha... Strange la... People say this car and engine is reliable but I do not experience the same after getting it. It's not very economical either. I've spent a bunch on diagnosis and checkups and fixing it. Hope got the $$ to change to blacktop soon.

The engine is reliable if well taken care...periodically serviced every 5k..another thing is the mileage..how much have you or the previous owner ran the car?since you started a new thread..maybe you can try to elaborate what FC problem you had, den how you rectified it...just a brief elaboaration..if you plan to change to bt straight, den can forget bout 4afe liao..hehehehe..

Engine reliable is depend on the person who fix them....... lol did u ever see some car after went into a repair and go worse? mechanic is not a person who know open screw , min at least they know the theory.. find a right person to fix ur car..

LOL it's not the car bro but it's just that's not your luck..that's the way it is with 2nd hand car buyers anyway.. I spent quite a lot of $$$ and time too after buying my SEG..Fix the prob one by one and so far all the problems can be solved easily but $$$ sure kena perah sikit la..heheh.. But after all that sakit kepala, I'm happy whenever I drive it.. 4AFE is bulletproof if you take care of it :D

Agree. I too have just gotten my AE111 auto, spend for servicing, lubing, timing belt change. And I've just developed engine overheating issue, changed the water pump, and thermostat but the overheat still arise. Finally sending for 2nd opinion checking..found the head gasket koyak :bawling:

So the car is at the workshop now, but I'm NOT about to give up the 4AFE because of this nagging problem.

Cheerz:biggrin:

i have seen mechanic with zero assets to become a mechanic...should just shoot himself...i have been reading every single post here, and i found out that its like guessing game where veloc have to check every single damn thing on the engine to find out the issue...since i read that he red lines the engine severely..i also wanna see the condition of the engine after the abuse..please state some details such as mileage, parts changed..den maybe its easier to detect whats wrong...is there leakage?...how dry issit??bone dry below E or half after driving a few times???

is don't see any difficulty to diagnose a loosing engine oil from a N/A engine.. a shop with competence mechanic will able to found out easily..

cheers
